  1. And an outfield of Sharper, Sturner and Swerth
  2. The Twins org did pretty well last time they traded an all-star 2b to the Yankees
  3. Yes. The Twins would/should do that in a heartbeat. Why on earth would the Nationals do this? I really hope the league views Dozier like this writer does!
  4. Half of the starters will be below and half above average. Thats just how it works. I think the Twins fans here just long for a starter to show a team some different things over a three game stretch. We have been watching 87-92mph pitch to contact guys for what? A decade plus? Throw just one pitcher who brings it at 96 and has some wildness and it *could* throw the opposition off their game. If I'm looking at a three game stretch vs Hughes, Santana and Gibson, there isn't much I have to study up on. They aren't exact clones, but I know I'm going to have to swing, and I know I'm going to only be patient enough to get that pitch to drive. Watching the team build a pitching staff in hopes that the opposing batters get themselves out is tiring.
  5. So, mixed reviews? I guess the highest praise I can see is somewhere in the 'passable, below average, hits enough to offset shortcomings' range. It would be nice if he were doing well enough (defensively) to pencil in at short next season. Dozier at second and Sano at third with Escobar as the utility. There really are so many decisions to be made by the new FO.
  6. No useful defensive metrics can be used to assess a players ability with such a small sample size, so I was wondering what the TD community feels about Polanco at short so far. I know that his defense has come up when discussing other topics here (like trading Dozier, Escobar's challenging season, Plouffe and Sano at third, etc.) but I haven't seen a thread dedicated to discussing how his play has been over there. I have seen probably four games with Polanco at short and I haven't seen him make an error or a spectacular play yet. If anything, he seems to have a little of that "just past a diving Polanco" feel to his play. He seems to be pretty quick, especially to his right, and he seems to have a decent arm. I know he played essentially zero shortstop in AAA. I know that Dick and Bert are pretty quick to heap the praise on the routine plays for him. And I know that he has looked pretty solid at the plate. His ability to stick could dictate some of the offseason moves, and I can't get a read on whether he is a shortstop or not. What do you think?
  7. ... With the royals on deck
  8. O'Rourke has some really odd body language
  9. I told you! What and odd quirk.
  10. Sano should be better equipped to play third (almost) every day given a full spring at the position. It has been talked about, but I think we have underestimated the impact of him essentially not playing the position for over a year. He's still very young. If he falls flat on his face on defense, like that awful stretch he had a month ago or so, Escobar and Polanco can slide in. Thats not ideal, but its a better situation than Plouffe and the salary/ roster inflexibility he brings.
  11. Having Jack Goin as a contributor here is awesome!
  12. It's unnecessary observation. Some things are legal in Oregon that aren't legal in MN.
  13. Like clockwork. Whenever Dick is announcing the count, and he announces the third ball, he immediately mentions the on-deck hitter. This isn't complaining about anything, but it is so incredibly consistent. "now three and one; with Mauer on deck" Cant you just hear that read in his voice?
  14. I'm still in favor of leaving Duffey out there. He either has to make some adjustments or not be in the rotation. Let him learn when its 9-5. Send him out again.
  15. I get wanting to pull Duffey there, but I think leaving him in is defensible. Have to see if he can adjust late in the game.
  16. Thats fair. I just don't remember him doing that as much last year. It looks to me like he's checking even when the ball is nowhere near the zone. I don't think he needs that much of a head start with his swing. At least I hope not.
  17. He has good plate coverage and strike zone judgement/pitch recognition, he just seems to have fallen into a habit of checking his swing on Every. Single. Pitch. Bad habit.
  18. Trevor Bauer looks a bit like evil AJ Pierzinski.
  19. riiiiight as I pressed 'post'
  20. Rosario is hitting well, but I don't like watching him. TAKE A PITCH SOMETIME!!!
  21. I don't get the chance to watch too many games, but I get to tonight. I'm sitting here debating which broadcast to watch and I think I am legitimately tuning into the Twins team. Smalley is pretty good. Maybe its SSS, maybe my hatred for Bert is blinding me. How do people here generally feel about the job Smalley is doing?
