  1. Benson was up with this team last year. He was considered in the running for RF going into ST. He's not as far off as is being portrayed here. Certainly Parmalee isn't. Next year should be conceded regardless, this team has a lot going right this year and is still one of the worst teams in baseball. The illusion we aren't that far off is skewed. Add into that Willingham's age, career year, and lack of injuries and we are risking a "sell high" moment that is all but slapping us in the face. Of course, if you don't get the sell high price, don't sell.
  2. I fail to see why we can't expect to have Benson/Parmalee as OF options next year. If you get a good offer for Willingham - pull it.
  3. Rangers and being close to home with a legit chance for a World Series title......or Minnesota. I would say we're behind in that race by a bit.
  4. Pavano got 2 years and 17M. I would say your proposal of 2/20 seems mighty team friendly.
  5. Expecting Liriano to take a team friendly number of years AND team friendly guaranteed money is a pipedream. Realistically dealing him is the best.
  6. I could be wrong but wasnt one reason they had him throw less sliders was because of the increased risk of injury?
  7. Same. But what I keep pointing out to you is that as great as he was in 2010 - he followed it with 2011 and several starts into 2012. As great as these last 10 starts have been....how can we not anticipate the same pattern? Someone would have to give me a detailed reason for why we shouldn't expect him to be awful again following this stretch, it's been his pattern. Talk about "stuff" and "frontline" and "only non-Blackburn"" we have is irrelevant. At some point, as Jonathan Sanchez can attest, stuff isn't enough. And it's damn sure not enough to invest 30M. If he's changed something, ala Plouffe, then we could expect different results. If he hasn't changed anything, then we have no reason to anticipate anything but Liriano reverting again soon. The definition of crazy, as someone posted awhile ago on this subject, seems to apply.
  8. All of that is great....but then why did 2011 happened? What has changed? I was excited as anyone after 2010 and I thought this year was going to be a return to 2010 for him because I felt the issue in 2011 was his lazy ass basically saying "screw it" to his offseason program. If that wasn't the issue, what is it? I don't know either, but I would need to know what it is to feel comfortable offering him 30M. Paying 10% of our payroll for another Liriano 2011 version would be awful and the track record shows we are more likely to get that than the 2010 version. I worry we are seeing his delivery get more violent again and the team is looking the other way knowing this is the last we'll have to deal with him. Which means an injury could be very likely.
  9. Why though? Is it a fluke? Did he change his delivery? Start throwing a pitch more often? Tossing 30M guaranteed at a fluke is a bad bet. What if this change is due to a return to his violent, injury-inducing delivery? You're dismissing a valid question with a lot of hot air. Also, is there not a third choice beyond these: A) Pay Liriano and keep him Pay some other scrub and complain we let Liriano go? Because I see plenty of other options despite the way the argument is being construed.
  10. 17M for 2 years is a bargain for what Willingham has done so far. That contract will be a bonus in the deal, not a hinderance.
  11. I know you arent sold on the first part but its true and I agree it is dumb. I dont completly fault Adelman either because last year was odd with the strike, but I dont like the public negativity towards him by Adelman.
  12. I'm not a Ruesse fan or hater. He was overstating his point but all opinion writers do this. His general point that Adelman isn't beyond criticism. And his handling of Williams leaves something to be desired so far. I think that's fair game.
  13. Who would've thought right? I mean you only had a ridiculous title to the thread and acted like a smarmy ass at the suggestion that your opinion was overstated.
  14. I don't fault Adelman for Johnson but I don't like his handling of Williams thus far. Holding the opinion that he is at fault for both being worthy of "hate" is hyperventilating and stupid.
  15. Um, yes it is: And he proceeds to list two things that are not in the "win" column. This isn't that hard to figure out. You can disagree whether or not it's valid that Adelman be held to criticism on this, but that's not what the moron posting this suggested. Nor has it been the way you have skewed what I said.
  16. I accused no one in this thread of that. I said "many people" which you and Crapps have taken personally. If you don't hold that viewpoint, don't associate with it. Reusse is writing based on what he hears around town from the general population so I'm defending the viewpoint he is writing against, not what you or anyone else here thinks individually. But it is out there that Adelman is beyond criticism - it's been pretty lovey-dovey with him so far. I don't think any coach is beyond criticism and all Reusse is doing here is suggesting that there are some things from last year that you cannot put in the "win" column for the Adelman coaching staff. Adelman has not been particularly positive about Williams and is constantly dismissive about the hope that he can play the three. He has been less than encouraging and nurturing to a guy that I feel has a ton of potential. It's perfectly valid to call that out.
  17. Liriano has been pitching very well. He couldn't have picked a better time! But that's not all that's being said. People are cherry-picking the last 10 starts as a way to justify their opinion he is worthy of a contract extension and to validate the limb they went out on with him pre-season, which Liriano promptly buried in April. I was someone who thought he was going to have a 2010-esque season this year. But I put the Kool-Aid down...
  18. Stats make the Kool-Aid taste funny.....
  19. A source? Talk around town is to basically worship Adelman. I love that we signed him, but the way he's handled Williams so far has less than impressed me. I'm not going to defend him on that and Reusse is right on a number of counts in this article about the way they're treating this kid. I'm less inclined to agree with the Wes Johnson stuff, but you are way over the top with your Reusse hatred. As you said, it's "way too early to decide" on Williams. Someone should get that memo to Adelman. But tone down your nonsense about Reusse - if you hate the guy fine. That's obvious. But this article has a number of valid points.
  20. You didn't, I thank you for bringing some sanity back to that. Mauer's been hitting really well lately - it's very encouraging.
  21. I know, for the life of me I can't get you cultists to even acknowledge 2011! Strangest damn thing it is. I guess I should work on 2012 first, I keep hearing "frontline" about a guy who's season has a WHIP of 1.40 and an ERA+ of 85. Damn those uncooperative stats!
  22. Well at least we've come down from the cliff of comparing Liriano to Mauer.
  23. You both are missing the point. Some of the success last year had little to do with Adelman yet many give him total credit. All Reusse is saying is that if you want to go that over the top in cr4editing him there were negatives as well. Personally I don't feel he is the end-all, be-all good or bad. Quit hyperventilating over a perfectly valid attack on over-the-top praise.
  24. It's reassuring to think our GM doesn't believe a mediocre offense is anywhere close to being competitive as has been alluded to here by some.
