  1. He thought moving to the bullpen would be bad for his arm....and he subsequently got hurt. So not only was he looking out for his career, he was demonstrably right and the team wrong in the handling. (Also, your zeal to defend the team on this issue completely ignores the fact that they "converted" him a week before the season and then proceeded to use him in 3 out of 4 games as a setup man. Hurt or not that was incredibly risky. Maybe the guy just knew his arm and knew he was being misused.)
  2. Maybe....I just doubt any of these guys are being paid enough that their contracts are going to be an obstacle.
  3. One thing that strengthens your argument as well is that Ryan's best trait may be his ability to build bullpens in a cheap, sneaky, and very effective way.
  4. And that's fine. I could care less about the return, it's more about doing the right thing and clearing them off the roster for younger players.
  5. I'll have to think about it a bit, the hard part is proving it of course. Most of it is anecdotal and more based on memory, so it could certainly be wrong. I feel like Baker belongs in that group but after that it's sketchy. (Note, I'm not making that argument per se.....just defending the position that this particular case doesn't match gripes we hear)
  6. The guys we want to trade (other than maybe Suzuki) are unlikely to be Twins anymore after September. So getting a C level prospect is better than nothing. And it clears them out of the way for younger players the last two months. This isn't a contending team. Even a flukey 16 game stretch going 12-4 isn't going to change that.
  7. Yeah, what a jerk for looking out for his career and livelihood. Definitely deserved a public lynching for that. So yeah, let's not go down that rabbit hole and just accept the Twins have some notable people that do go out and do this with players. As do other teams as well, it's just not a relevant comparison in this case because no one from the Red Sox org. is doing it.
  8. We're just de-hyperbolizing.
  9. This is most definitely not the worst case scenario. In any case if you have to imagine going 12-4 to be a fringe contender......you aren't a contender.
  10. I think people are talking about two different things - his end results were good in three starts, but he didn't pitch "very good". In all three of those starts the margin of error for those going pumpkin was incredibly small. I'm glad he got some starts, but he was primed to go Albers very quickly.
  11. Put him up now, just make sure to wait until the iron is hot.
  12. That progrum is a worthy allocation of time. The one it was replaying was what I was referring to....
  13. We can do Baker as well or anyone else. Whether the player is legit or not is irrelevant to point I was making. As are any assumptions you want to make. I wasn't even criticizing the Twins, just pointing out that this situation is irrelevant to any in which the Twins have been criticized for in the past.
  14. Pretty sure listening to that program to get information is on the list for being awarded a Purple Heart. Also, here is another link - it's at the 80:00 mark.
  15. I'm not sure why your scarecrow argument was any better than the one that responded to it. Perhaps your point would be valid if you compared the percentage of revenue spent over the years, but just the raw numbers? That's a lot of context you omitted to generate a scarecrow to an thought-provoking post.
  16. Well, no one in Boston's organization or associated with the team is saying things publicly. It's sources and sportswriters. That's a bit different than Bert spending a month saying Kevin Slowey likes black licorice and hurting adorable puppies. So seems to me you're trying to make some kind of comparison here that isn't really relevant.
  17. Oh I completely agree, I won't be someone who bashes a Willingham trade because we "didn't get enough". Just the act of moving some of these guys that are done with this team in three months will be positive enough for me. Doing nothing with them? I'm not sure I have an adequate adjective for my emotions in that scenario.
  18. Here is a Strib article talking more about the situation. Sounds like his personality was a major factor here, if not the deciding factor.
  19. Since we're talking trade deadline, I think I'll be as equally upset with this team if it does nothing as I was thrilled with them this offseason. Another dud of a deadline would be unacceptable for me this year.
  20. It's good he's having some success, I'd imagine it feels good and is mental boost. Still, what he does at NB isn't interesting to me. I need to see him in AAA doing it before I want him back.
  21. If you're looking for simple and delicious eats at the park Jack - it's hard to go wrong with Tony O's Cuban either. That's just a damn fine sandwich. I echo the sentiments about Kramarczuk's as well - load up one of those brats with onions and kraut and be in heaven on a summer's night.
  22. Thank you, comparing the Twins to Houston was just something impossible not to think about after reading that report.
  23. Quite possibly, though I think they are better equipped to be immediate impact players. Meyer/May may need more time to adjust just because they are pitchers. May be the right move in the long run, I don't know....it's just disappointing.
  24. I'd be curious, without needing specifics mind you, to hear how similar things are behind the curtain as what we saw unveiled from Houston. But I'd totally understand if that was a taboo thing to talk about.
  25. I'm pretty sure the standard of 100% ready isn't real for any player on any team. It's an inexact science.
