  1. Plouffe is also headed towards "time to release him" and Sano is a cornerstone. Either way, stop hiding behind a spin job calling it versatility. You aren't versatile unless you can do more than be assigned a position. Anyone can be assigned a new position, playing it is another matter.
  2. Until he actually plays the outfield, and see how this outfield aligns, perhaps we should wait to declare a boon of roster versatility. We heard the team touting Bartlett's "versatility" too and how did that turn out? All we have now is a position change forced by an attachment to one player the team didn't even bother to market.
  3. It won't until at least one of them is gone. Either way, you (and others) keep spinning this as "versatility" - playing someone at another position does not entail versatility. We could play Brian Dozier at catcher, that doesn't magically become versatility.
  4. I got a good chuckle.
  5. I'm curious why you think that.
  6. Well said. I get keeping Plouffe. He's an ok player who isn't hurting the team because of his play and if you can't get a fair return in a trade - don't do it. But not even considering the option and defaulting right away to moving Sano? I can't capitalize UGH enough to properly relate my reaction.
  7. I think many are making too much of this "versatility". Nunez has "versatility" to play SS....but the hell if I want him doing it. Santana can play CF....but we sure as hell better not be planning to start him out of the gate there. Merely playing someone at multiple positions does not constitute "versatility"
  8. I get pinning it on Park, but Park gives some upside and team control. His lack of proven play also gives the team the option to use Arcia as a DH in that scenario. I think too many people (I doubt you believe this, based on past comments) have given up on Arcia. I think that's a major mistake. So moving Sano off of DH allows us more options to play Arcia, but I'd like to see Sano proving he can handle third base (or not) before we move him.
  9. Valid question, but no.
  10. As I said earlier Brock, the problem was the decision made months ago to keep Plouffe. The market has yielded little fruit for those trading 3B, but I think it's clear from Ryan's comments that it was never even entertained. As of today we need to play Plouffe and that causes issues. I'm hoping Plouffe's existence on the roster isn't for much longer. He's a fine player, but not one worth shuffling people around to keep in the lineup.
  11. It'd be better to let Sano develop defensively. I'm sure he can switch back and return to where he is now. But I'd much rather let him advance as a defender (like Plouffe did) with time at the position rather than sending him to learn something new in the name of a player whose time here is rapidly coming to an end.
  12. It isn't just about "can Sano play the outfield?" It's also about where he plays and how that best fits the upcoming talent. Sano playing third gives us the possibility of a Rosario-Buxton-Kepler Outfield of Awesomeness. It also opens up the DH spot for Park or someone else - meaning the positions easiest to fill with good bats are still available (RF and DH) and one of the harder spots (3B) is manned by a beast. This is a very real possibility once we can shed Plouffe for something of value: Buxton-Mauer-Dozier-Sano-Arcia/Park/Some other Dude-Kepler-Rosario-Murphy-Escobar Long term it is monumentally stupid to continue with the plan we're rolling into 2016 with. I just hope the shift to the future comes sooner rather than later.
  13. Yeesh, that is a might flat club you are whacking the foreign policy argument with. I don't think Bernie Sanders can do diplomacy. Bernie Sanders yells what he thinks and you either agree or you don't. There isn't a lot of nuance to the guy. Diplomacy is built on nuance and negotiation.
  14. This. Now Mauer had a better defensive pedigree coming up, but it's the same idea: Plouffe's time at third should be over. He should be the one moving around if anyone.
  15. Bernie presents as a revolutionary...those don't make good diplomats. Like it or not, foreign diplomacy is about the most critical thing the President does and it's by far Bernie's worst quality.
  16. Rand Paul isn't perfect by any stretch. He's said and advocated some dumb positions - but he's a reasonable, well-spoken guy who seems to understand the big picture. I think, if he didn't have to try and appeal to the Republican base, you'd see a really fine Presidential candidate. Alas, with that party, we never get to see that when it matters most. And anyone that can't throw meat to that base never gets themselves off the ground enough to be of serious consideration. It's really sad and it's hurting the country more than anything else in the process.
  17. Rand Paul...but he's basically so far out of it he doesn't count. So, yeah, I'm depressed too.
  18. I just think his personality is too abrasive. I simply can't imagine him as a leader on the international stage. Being Grumpy Grandpa with some appealing ideas might drive some support, but it doesn't hash out treaties or improve diplomatic relations. I want him in a position to influence policy. The last place I want him is as the most influential man in a discussion of international affairs.
  19. What the hell are you even arguing? My point is that the team often holds on to guys for loyalty well past the point of usefulness and would rather move young players around than upset veterans. Just last year we shifted Arcia because of Hunter. We played Josh Willingham until he basically needed a scooter in LF. We moved Sano to the outfield because of Plouffe. (And the GM is adamantly on the record that Plouffe was a big part of it) We have marched the Marquis, Stauffers, Duensings, and a host of other guys my PTSD has lead me to forget...out to the mound time after time with nothing to expect but futility because, dammit!, they eat innings! This is not a prospect blocking issue, this is an issue that the Twins' old school mentality about loyalty (while beneficial other times) is a detriment to them making the best moves for upside in favor of maintaining the status quo.
  20. If Trevor Plouffe walks away from a 16M QO....then HIS head should explode due to stupidity. 16 million for one year is roughly double what Trevor Plouffe will make going forward.
  21. I mean, how many names have to be dropped about guys run out FAR past their usefulness. This team gives way too long of a leash to anyone that they consider "their" guys. That loyalty has benefits, but it has costs too. It's part of how this team operates, to call it a false narrative is ridiculous. If they extend a 16M dollar QO to Trevor Plouffe I think my head will explode.
  22. Rand Paul-Bernie Sanders ticket. Let's do this. You get a guy who can be a legit statesman and handle foreign policy (Paul) and you get Sanders as a voice in domestic policy as VP. We should make this happen.
  23. We'll find out if Plouffe is given an indefensible extension. And the Twins have spent plenty of time hanging on to veteran players too long to the point of them becoming value-less (or worse) to the organization. I'm not sure how that's even up for debate. Also - Plouffe is a fine player, but he is counted on and talked about by this organization like something he isn't. He's not much more than "ok". Which is fine, ok players are great to have, but that's all he is. Against RHP he shouldn't be batting higher than 7th either given his splits.
  24. No one said a Plouffe wasn't fine. But Plouffe wasn't a good defender at the start. He was allowed to learn and improve at the position. They have made it abundantly clear Sano is athletic enough, so why not give him the chance just as Plouffe was given? Deference to veterans. They've said from day one of the offseason that they won't move Plouffe and I believe them. Ryan didn't want to move Plouffe so they moved Sano. I think it had very little to do with Sano.
  25. Trump is smart. He is also terribly thin skinned. This is about being butthurt.
