  1. No one is saying bench him. We're saying take the offensive black hole and minimize it as much as possible.
  2. You realize a .209 difference in OBP is gigantic right?
  3. How do you figure that last part? The exact problem is that he's not giving us anything even close to average OBP. He's barely making contact. His total inability to make contact right now is costing the team in run scoring opportunities. So far that hasn't hurt us, but it will.
  4. I agree, at some point we'd have to have that conversation. What I need to see from him is a consistent approach at the plate. Even if the results stink, his approach has to stay consistent. For that I'd send him down, but I might give it until June or so before I reach that conclusion.
  5. He needs to figure this out in the big leagues, but yeah....hitting third has to end.
  6. Right, getting people off the scent only works if it goes hand in hand with him appearing competent. The next few weeks are going to tell us a lot. What bugs me in this is how much support the action is getting here and abroad. If this is what so many people feel should have been done, why the hell did we have to wait around for Trump? I guess I'd sort of appreciate if someone else did the heavy lifting once and awhile. It's hard to keep getting criticized for being the world's police officer, but then they keep handing us the badge and the gun and waiting for us to act.
  7. I've considered similar things. I've yet to figure out if Russia is cold, calculated, and playing the long game or just hot heads that like dicking around with others. I lean towards the latter.
  8. The Russian factor here is so god damn strange. If there is something behind all this Russia smoke....what is it? How does that play in? If they wanted Trump not Hillary for this, is this a failure on their part? I struggle to wrap my head around this whole ordeal with them.
  9. Pitchers are often not attacking the same way in ST. They are working on pitches or locations and not approaching at-bats as they typically would. I'm not as worried about him being 1-15 or whatever. I'm worried about how he got there and how he got there is not a new issue for him. I think he needs to be up and working on it, but I'd prefer a little less pressure on the kid while he does so.
  10. I guess that would depend if there truly is a burden and how much so. I would agree, in general, that Pence seems like that kind of old-school Christian that is discriminatory whether he means to be or not.
  11. I tend to share this sentiment. Every time we wade into this region of the world we seem to make things worse, not better. Even when our intentions are good. The time, effort, money, and manpower spent could have gone on to do so much good elsewhere. But then, how long do you ignore a small cancer before it spreads? I staunchly believe foreign policy is the most important thing about the President and it's because of issues like this. Answers are not easy and every mis-step can have huge, long lasting effects.
  12. I get the impression that the "what do we do?" question was one the Obama administration had no answer for either. I'm not sure the Trump administration does either. Lots and lots of thorns in this.
  13. While I would tend to agree in this case, there are ramifications to that process as well. Sometimes the power void that is left in the wake of that can have consequences you can't predict or control. One might even argue part of the Syrian problem is partially as a result of that. (Domino effect from Saddam's fall)
  14. Do you think there is a touch of irony to this comment and the conversation?
  15. This is also my hope, we have adults in the room (Mattis and McMaster) and they have influence. In fact, Bannon's influence seems to be waning. Syria is a messy, messy situation. I think Obama's administration struggled with a long term policy too and with good reason.
  16. Yeah, in retrospect I'm not sure there is a good analogy. Even in yours, it's more like "I won't have dinner alone with a black person unless my one black friend is there" It's a weird and stupid rule to have, but I do think his reasons matter. There just isn't much upside for him - at best he's an idiot.
  17. Early reports seem to indicate they were diligent. They had open communication with the Russians to divert their troops and picked a target well removed from civilians. At least that's the widespread reporting at this point that I've seen.
  18. Well, when everyone is to blame..... That's not playing both sides. It's not playing favorites. Right now both sides have plenty of reasons to hate. (Though one side has a special kind of stupid at work right now, I admit)
  19. For me, it all plays into this stupid "Party of Opposition" vs. "Party of Governance" framing that seems to pervade D.C. I just caution both sides - what's good for one, is good for the other. You might be comfortable with your team breaking the rules and finding alternate routes to push their plan through. But the other side will get their turn too and you might not like it as much when that happens.
  20. I think this kind of stuff is almost as silly as what Pence does. Look, his little rules are pretty silly. But the "why" here matters a lot. This isn't all that different from the idea of "I won't go in that neighborhood after 11" Well, is it because there are no street lights? Is it because of high rates of criminality? Is it too far? Or is it because black people live there? Your reasons can range from benign to understandable to downright horrific. We don't know completely his reasons why. If it's just his silly way of trying to be noble, I don't think it's worth this degree of condemnation. Laughter? Sure. Condemnation? Nah, he's given us far better ammo for that.
  21. My understanding was he only refused 1:1 dinners. Still astoundingly stupid, but not to the degree of some of your examples IMO.
  22. Out of curiosity, what version or quote or whatever of what Mike Pence said are you using here? I've looked in a few places and some of this seems to reach farther than what his remarks seem to be saying to me.
  23. I wouldn't say this sort of thing is just about obstructionism. Or, as it seems you are using the example (maybe I'm wrong), trumped up smear campaigns. This is more about leveraging control in government to circumvent the normal processes in order to gain a political advantage. At least that's what is more concerning to me.
  24. Yeah, both sides play dirty on this stuff. And they're both loud hypocrites when the other side does it.
  25. That's true. I just worry this move had very big upside and very big downside. It's too early to say either way, but my feelings about that haven't changed. If Buxton can come through in big spots, it might really drive the kid. But continued performances like this and we may not have his defense in CF for the season. At some point, striking out this often will necessitate a demotion.
