  1. Some yes All no
  2. I really don't understand Arcia because he has so much raw ability but he seems to be overrated one minute on here and underrated the next. He is exactly the type of player (upside) that a rebuilding team or a team with a PH/part time DH role should take a chance on. But when the Twins signed Park, planned on Mauer at 1B and kept Plouffe (affecting Sano) the writing was on the wall for Arcia and to a lesser extent Vargas. Once Grossman got hot (and stayed hot) there just wasn't room for everyone. I wish the best for Arcia though. I keep cheering for players after they leave the team (if I liked them in the first place).
  3. A utility player that can play every position is really useful with limited bench spots due to large pitching staffs. For example at the start of the year with a backup catcher, Arcia, Nunez and Santana on the bench (Park at DH). But he is still a utility player and he shouldn't be playing often since he isn't a great hitter or really good defensively at any spot. His role should be the last man in instead of starting half of the games. He also has more value when you have Park at DH, Sano in RF and Arcia in LF which results in very little roster flexibility. He has less value with Grossman, Kepler, Buxton and Rosario playing the 3 OF spots since they can all play CF. He definitely isn't blocking Polanco if he was used correctly (last man to be used).
  4. I only saw highlights but I thought Dunn was running the offense mostly instead of playing off the ball.
  5. Sometimes the best place for development isn't in the big leagues. In Berrios case I think it is a good idea to put some space in between his rough first time with the Twins and his next callup. He didn't pitch well right after he was sent down. Now he is pitching awesome though and hopefully he is up soon. 1st game - 5BB's 2nd game - 1K 3rd game - 7ER's 4th game - awesome 5th game - 5ER's Since then he has been awesome in 5 of 6 games.
  6. Can Dunn and Jones form a backcourt combo where the offensive/defensive roles are flipped? Dunn leads the offense and Jones is more of a scorer but Dunn guards the larger opposing guard.
  7. I could see Payne on the way out. What is Dieng's long term place on the team? He has one year before RFA and if he gets there he will probably get 15-20M/yr (or more if he has a good season). Is he really the guy that you want next to Towns? Will the Wolves be able to extend Wiggins and Lavine (the year after) and Towns (2 years after) and still be able to have any payroll flexibility? Is Dieng on the block potentially?
  8. There is really no reason for the Wolves to care whether or not Garnett retires. They aren't going to be able to spend the money that he is owed and I think he adds a lot practicing (when he can) and traveling with the team. Basically he is an expensive asst coach and they don't have to formally add him to the staff. The same goes for Pekovic. Nothing is hurt by him staying on the team. The soon to be expiring contract could be useful at some point.
  9. This has not been the narrative on TD about Suzuki for the last 2+ years. People have wanted him gone and don't care about who replaces him. The Twins should trade him this month but I think everyone should be prepared for the catching position to get worse before it gets better.
  10. This thread is quite puzzling. One part of the thread is talking up Suzuki as better than X, Y and Z in order to trade him while the other part of the thread thoroughly despises him. It might be hard for almost everyone to believe but things could be worse than having Suzuki at catcher. He isn't a starting level catcher but the Twins have nothing else (I still have some hope for Murphy though) and it is really difficult to trade for or sign a good MLB catcher.
  11. This will be completely ignored. It doesn't matter if there is very little demand for 2B (as your research initially shows). The Twins will have made a colossal mistake because a deal for a C or SP didn't happen.
  12. These are professional athletes playing 6 games per week. It is unlikely that they feel 100% healthy most of the season. I know that I routinely had small nagging injuries all the time during the various HS/college sports that I played. I kept playing just like everyone that I knew.
  13. So you would dismiss lucky results in the 2nd half of this year but you won't dismiss the awful luck from the 1st half of this year? It seems that nobody will admit at just how terribly unlucky the Twins were at the beginning this year. They were never as bad as they played but nearly everyone hit way below what was expected or pitched terribly. Usually some players outperform while others underperform and it balances out.
  14. Good luck getting any team on taking on the full 34 mil. My guess is that in order to move him the Twins would need to pay 25-50% of that 34 mil. And they are still getting a marginal prospect in return.
  15. LA might have the best set of assets with Ingram, Russell and Randle. Westbrook might have said no to an extension but that can change with max dollars which I think includes a pay increase this year (8M I heard) and a top up and coming team. I think Butler is a better fit though and likely preferred by Thibodeau.
  16. I absolutely agree that the Thunder should trade Westbrook (or extend him - unlikely). The more relevant question in this thread is whether or not the Wolves should be involved in any of the trade rumors. Do you give up Dunn and Lavine for him? I don't think that gets it done (or close to done) but what other rebuilding assets do the Wolves have to offer (assuming that Wiggins or Towns is HELL NO)? Shabazz or Gorgui? Future 1st rd'ers? Rubio could be sent elsewhere (3 way trade) for a potential asset I guess. I see this going nowhere with Thibodeau though. Butler could still happen though. That one makes sense.
  17. But #1 didn't happen nor will he will be considered the driving force behind a championship Warriors team. If he had gone to the Blazers, Wolves, Celtics or another a different team that wasn't on top then he would have a different legacy. I don't disagree with this but I thought the Durant/OKC break would have happened next year. It was a convenient break with Russell also leaving and the rest of the team getting exposed for another year. The OKC team really isn't that good once you go past their two MVP level players.
  18. This isn't an argument for keeping a pitcher up or sending him down. All it means is that Berrios first 4 starts aren't indicative of what he will be doing next time he is up.
  19. Bogut played 20 mins/game last year. They will be exposed towards certain lineups but no team can come close to matching the offensive firepower. I would be concerned about the depth that they are losing. I am surprised that Durant left this year. I thought he would sign a 1 yr contract with a player option and then leave with Westbrook next year. I also thought that we would see a similar players side collusion situation like the Heat with Lebron and Bosh making a superteam in FA (either this year or next). This is a little different but kind of the same. I think ultimately this becomes Durant's legacy. He wasn't good enough to take a team to the championship himself and joined a great team to win. It might not be fair but I think that is how he will be remembered.
  20. I am not upset that a very young rookie got sent down (for a couple of months) after 4 starts that overall went very poorly. I don't like that he wasn't called up as a bullpen arm last Aug/Sept but that is almost entirely due to service time. I think 10-15 MLB innings late in the year would have helped him a lot for this year. Meyer has been handled very frustratingly. Yet he continues to get hurt or implode (like in 2015) at all the wrong times. I don't really understand being upset about Chargois at all. He is the type of guy that should be getting looks this season but he had 48 A/AA/AAA innings before this season. And the bullpen has started pitching really well lately (now that Jepsen and Fien have been kicked to the curb). Hopefully May comes back as the pitcher he was last year.
  21. This is on often suggested idea but it doesn't happen often. The target for someone like Santana is at best a player like Hu (the Jepsen trade) while negotiating how much of the contract the Twins pay. These are the expectations. The expectations in a Nolasco trade are even lower.
  22. Let's start with some reasonable expectations. Santana is 33 with a 4.50 ERA and has two years remaining on his contract. He is decent but he isn't bringing back an asset.
  23. Trade Nunez, play Polanco at SS with Escobar as the utility guy. SS might not be Polanco's ideal position but this team should actively be looking for ways to be worse (trading Dozier) unless a great offer comes their way (a top 50 prospect at a minimum plus other lower level upside players).
  24. this is exactly hindsight. The last thing the Twins should be doing is giving up draft picks for 30 yr olds in decline. There is definitely no guarantee that a 31 yr old would bring back a compensation pick (there is a chance). As far as Park the problem was always positional flexibility. The team is loaded with DH's and those that should be DH's. Adding Park worsened that situation.
  25. The most important thing for the Wolves right now is to not give reserves significant money and years. This killed the Wolves 10+ years ago when they just kept adding 5+M players like Jaric that didn't fit. the stupid money that is getting thrown around on some of these role players is likely going to be regretted in a few years regardless of the big cap increase. The Wolves still need a backup 20min/game wing but the core of the team is there. Thibodeau's first two big moves focused on defense so it is obvious as to his long term plans. It will be interesting to see what the Wolves do with Rubio, Dunn and Tyus. Perhaps a trade is in the works but Rubio/Dunn is a strong combo at PG and the team isn't screwed if Rubio gets hurt again.
