  1. I think it's partly out of favor but I think AZ is coming to the realization that he might not come close to all of that potential. The nagging injuries and the frequent slumps don't help either. I think the other reason that they might trade him is that maybe they can land a Machado type prospect and few other lesser prospects for him. Trading Willingham and Morneau for Bundy is just laughable. I have a hard time believing that the OP is serious. Yet, he is.
  2. gibson is easily my #6 but I never dropped him as much as others. there is a clear top 5, a clear #6 (imo) and then a really strong group after that. Berrios, Kepler, Harrison, Goodrum, boyd, boer and possibly Walker and Jorge (I've always been high on him but he's at the end of the group). The good thing is that the Twins seem to have been hitting on their toolsy upside picks from the last couple of years. We still need more pro ball data from any of these to put them at the top of the group but I like it. FWIW - guys like Salcedo, Michael, Benson would still be ranked within that group but they fall into a different category.
  3. Losing is bad PR also.
  4. Kepler went deep also.
  5. Arcia and Rosario are already showing up near the midpoint of the midseason lists. There might not be much pitching but this is becoming a good system.
  6. I can understand that this sends a bad message but these aren't bad moves for the team to move forward. they traded a soon to be FA, a 30+ yr old utility player and prima donna that needed to get out. Josh Johnson is a continual injury waiting to happen and a FA in 1.5 yrs. If they can land a top prospect for him then that's good long term. And they freed up a bunch of money to make another splash if they want.

  8. 12.5M is a lot of money to play the comp pick game with.
  9. Hamels is close to resigning for 6/137.5. That would leave Greinke, Garza and JJohnson as the best starters on the market. That's a lot of competition to trade Liriano against.
  10. If they were a contender and they needed an arm then maybe but just let him go to the AFL and don't start the clock.
  11. but if you spend a lot of money in FA you'll get better right? Isn't this what all of the complaints about the Twins are? WOW! Hanley traded. I'm surprised more teams weren't in on him and disappointed that the Twins weren't in a position where it made sense to go after him.
  12. I think zimmerman is in the untradeable category. imo the Nats are out on Span. Jayson Werth just started rehab and that would give them 4 players for 1B/OF in Werth/Morse/Harper/LaRoche.
  13. hard to believe that none of you had Kepler. I know that Dave had him once upon a time but he cut him awhile ago. I keep finding new prospects that I need to make room for. I'm guessing Jordan Danks, Miguel Olivo and Ervin Santana will be getting cut in the next couple of weeks although I have no idea what I'll do in the offseason when we need to cut players. I have too many prospects.
  14. What exactly was the downside to this? It seems to be well worth it considering the success that Burton has had.
  15. at this point I would take anything decent for Liriano. None of these players have much upside and the best prospect isn't a pitcher but at the same time I would rather have too many OF'ers than get nothing.
  16. First - the Astros are paying part of Wandy's salary so the Pirates might not have committed that much money to Wandy Second - Wandy has had an ERA between 3.02 and 3.79 for the last 5 years. Liriano has only had 7 or so monthly ERA's in the last 5 years that low. this board has dramatically overrated how much demand for Liriano there is or ever was. This isn't a case of JR overplaying his hand. it's a case of trying sell a very erratic player and maybe they can make a good trade still but let's stop acting like Liriano is a top pitcher that everybody wants.
  17. Why are there so many people that mention Wimmers and Gibson together on this board? Other than being 1st rd selections in consecutive years they have nothing in common. Gibson looks to have a nice MLB career while Wimmers has mountains to climb just to become a top 10 prospect again.
  18. Mike - did you drop Asher wojalphabet by accident? Someone with your farm system shouldn't be dropping guys like him.
  19. where in the world did you make these numbers up? They would make almost every NL pitcher mediocre.
  20. Ugh... Really? You're upset that the Twins drafted HS players as part of a rebuild? You don't fix 100 loss teams in an offseason and in the draft you trade upside (HS) for shorter time to the majors (college) picks. There is no correct way to draft but buxton was considered by many to be the best prospect in the draft. I think you are a little to impatient if you think the Twins should have drafted differently.
  21. A bunch of 30+ yr olds on short and relatively small contracts. One of those old men might land the Twins a really nice prospect or two at the trade deadline or next season. I think that is a pretty effective way to rebuild when you aren't outrageously poor (and the Twins aren't). I really don't understand why the only possible rebuild scenario that you understand is the burn it to the ground and completely start over type of rebuild. signing a couple of veterans on short contracts is fine as long as they don't block legitimate prospects.
  22. Is the OP crying about losing Delmon Young? The same Delmon that is currently hitting with a .689 OPS? When did Liriano ever have much trade value? His ERA's by month this year are 11, 4.5, 3 and 5 after he was horrible last year. his latest clunker didn't help but teams regarded him as a pretty questionable trade target regardless. I think Smith said that more money would fix last year's problems and management questioned the team's ability to compete. Ryan (imo) said that the team would need to rebuild and so far we are seeing that. I also see a lot of complaining about payroll but then they ignore the almost 15M (tops in the majors) that the Twins have plowed into the draft and int'l FA. Payroll will go down again this year but that is so the Twins aren't stuck with a bunch of aging FA's when the farm system starts coming thru. I do hate the Capps decision though.
  23. My takeaway from the article was that he's going to have a Josh Hamilton body and like Hamilton he'll probably get pushed to a corner spot because you'll likely have a speedster like Revere/Hicks/etc in center. I'm a little surprised that he thinks he'll go all the way to 240. His frame can handle it but it seems difficult to predict where one's weight ends up considering that he has already added 40 lbs in the last 3 years. I still think the big thing regarding his power potential is becoming more of a fly ball hitter than a groundball/line drive hitter. This is the same reason that Joe Mauer has never had much HR power. It's hard to hit HR's when you are hitting a lot of groundballs.
  24. I don't expect much salary relief from a Morneau trade. The best I see is a 50/50 split but the focus should be on getting a good prospect. If you don't get anything in return then you might as well hang onto Morneau since he'll be on a one year contract. That's the problem with having a lot of money available next year. Anyone that you sign will tie up payroll in future seasons. I would rather have that payroll available to use when the team has a chance of being good.
