  1. As long as Gardy doesn't try to neuter him.
  2. It would be interesting to see who, if anyone, fought back and who just folded.
  3. Still doesn't believe in strikeout pitchers.
  4. Gilmartin is a typical Twins pitcher that everyone was terrified we'd take in the draft when he came out. It just makes so much sense since he's a mirror image of every other pitcher we have.
  5. Worst story ever. What is wrong with people?
  6. If you go by actual standings we would have tied for the old AL West lead in 2004 and won it in 2006 and 2010. This is strictly going off actual results and not the change in schedules that would occur with realignment, but I think it works out as I would say those have been our three best teams during the Gardy era. In 2004 we would have played NY and we saw how that turned out. We would have played them in 2006 as well and without Liriano and an ailing Radke we would have been crushed in my opinion. In 2010 we would have played TB.... but if you recall NY wasn't exactly trying to win the division that season, instead preferring to be wild card so they could play the Twins.
  7. 13. Toronto Blue Jays: Twins RHP Adam Johnson. They wanted him at the July 31 deadline, and with all their young talent, he could be a cornerstone for the Yankees' prime challengers from 2003 on. Was this the proposed Stewart deal that Ryan wanted? If so it's just another example of being terrified of trading prospects and not working out. P.S. Johan is a real steal in that draft, while Sean Bergman > Joe Mays.
  8. Just to be clear I do not want this to happen. I think he is pretty similar to Gardy in that he loves his crappy veterans, seems to have a "set" lineup by position (CF leadoff, MI bat second), and his postseason "success" is nearly as awful as Gardy. Also I am pretty sure I would have called for his firing the moment he announced Salomon Torres was starting Game 162.
  9. Dusty Baker reportedly out as Reds manager despite making the playoffs the last two seasons. He didn't win a game. I'd love for him to come over here and "ruin" some of our arms so I never have to see Diamond, Correia, Pelfrey, Hendricks, Devries again.
  10. He may not have said those words but I agree, that's how he and the entire Twins organization has come off the last six years.
  11. When Frank Cashen took over as GM of the Mets he signed George Foster to a big contract. He admitted that he knew Foster wouldn't make the Mets competitive but he wanted to send a message to the fans and players that they were trying to improve. One or two moves a season and suddenly you have the '86 Mets. By '86 Foster was terrible and they got rid of him mid-season, but the message had been sent that losing wasn't acceptable.
  12. I have an easy solution to how to get our staff to a 3.70 ERA. Just pay Stew to charge more errors. Then we can artificially make the ERA to our liking.
  13. "That rubber is about a foot and half long. He uses every inch of it."
  14. I want a Pirates-Braves NLCS like the good old days.
  15. I wonder how he judges the bullpens success- by their ERA perhaps, which he has already stated he doesn't like.
  16. Gardenhire will return as Twins manager | Star Tribune The quote that gets me is: "for every guy in the rotation that struggled, we had two in the bullpen who did well.” That means we had 22 bullpen guys do well this season.
  17. This seems more accurate to me.
  18. Absolutely not.
  19. Also Jamey Carroll was better than eight Twins pitchers with his 0.
  20. A friend of mine just told me that combined the Twins pitching staff has a 9.9 WAR. I just checked Fangraphs at that is somehow accurate. This is just inexcusable. Somehow Pelfrey leads at 2.1. *Full disclosure, I absolutely hate WAR, but I think it shows how wretched this staff has been all season long so I'm going to use it and promote in on this one occasion!
  21. Honestly the only two I can possibly think of are Albers first two starts and my personal favorite- the back-to-back homeruns off Darvish which also happened to be Morneau's final game as a Twin.
  22. If every pitcher in our rotation lowers their ERA by 1 run I bet we still finish under .500.
  23. If you count his final 21 postseason games with the Twins you can add 2 more victories to get him that elusive and prestigious number!
  24. I like Gomez but I don't think there was any way he was yelling at himself. It was pretty obvious that he was yelling at Maholm the whole way and then McCann when he finally noticed him. Unlike you, however, I found the whole incident awesome. An otherwise boring game is now going to be memorable for the foreseeable future. Of course I like guys that have a loose wire like Gomez, Nyjer, Milton Bradley, etc. They make things more interesting for me while I watch the robotic Twins lose 95 games a season.
  25. Congrats to the Tigers. They build their team how I wish we did. Trade overrated prospects (note: I said overrated not Sano or Buxton) for superstars and sign complementary FA to build a powerhouse. Take notes, JR.
