  1. I think that there might be a single change Hendricks option to Rochester and a position player recalled (Ray Chang?). They do have 13 pitchers still and do not need them all. And the reason I am saying that just one will be recalled is because Gardy is already in Minneapolis and they are not going to do much without him there... I think that Swarzak earned a good look for that last spot on the rotation and I do not see anyone better in Rochester (Diamond and Walters are not better) As far as DFA's go, if you want to swap Gray and Maloney with Rochester pitchers, I am fine with that. Slama should given a change. The other pitcher who should have a change is Cole DeVries over Manship, because he has been pitching better. Arguably, DeVries has been the best P in Rochester this season (.2.89 ERA, 1.000 WHIP, 8.7 K/9, 4.5 K/BB) and he deserves a chance. Totally surprise that there was not a ST invite for him and Slama... Now if you want to replace Clete with Mastroianni, whatever Nothing much gained or lost there.
  2. Gardenhire's daughter is graduating from Southwest Minnesota State University at Marshall, MN. Commencement is at 10 AM Saturday and would probably last a couple of hours. Delta has a red eye leaving at 12:40 AM on Saturday morning from Seattle arriving in Minneapolis at 5:45 AM (DL 1014), plenty of time to make it to Marshall by 10 AM. Also is has a 2:30 PM direct flight from Minneapolis to Seattle arriving there at 3:55 PM (DL 2237), in plenty of time to make the game on Saturday (5:10 PM local start). As I showed above , there is a way to make it to the graduation and do his job. Nice for Gardy to have a 3 day vacation while his team is struggling. Especially when the team is doing so badly. I hope that the Twins make his vacation permanent. He shows where his priorities are...
  3. All good And yes I do... To say that the Twins have not fired a coach since 1986 (when they last fired their manager, Ray Miller, mid-season) is a bit inaccurate. They haven't done many mid season changes, but they have done changes (even though they were recycled in Gardy's era e.g. Stevie from hitting coach to 3B coach to bench coach) after the season. The most recent one was Al Newman leaving after 2005 and Vavra coming as hitting coach. And from TK's coaches only Stelly and Jerry White moved along (Gardenhire of course) when he left... On the other hand, all but Jerry and Stelly need to go soon
  4. WAR is cumulative. The more someone plays the higher it is. It is good for overall career value discussions (like HOF, draft retrospects etc) but not for immediate value... I think something like WAR/100 (PAs) is much better indicator of value at a particular moment/season.
  5. Tyler Cloyd, Trevor May and Michael Stutes. All in the same team and all blocked
  6. Just a reminder for the hell of it: Jerome Williams was a Twin (briefly) in 2007. He signed and played for Rochester. The powers of being did not think he was good enough. Gotta love the Twins' braintrust
  7. Hollimon and Nishioka are on the DL
  8. I bet that Gardy will get fired before Butera goes down...
  9. You can use the same reasoning about Revere and Hughes...
  10. Why? I never understood how: a. he made the team over others b. was kept on the team instead of Hughes. He was a rally killer with the bat (proved that last night too) several times. He was past the Mendoza line and even past the Butera line. There is a 40-man roster spot open now so another IF might be on the way up. Carroll (whose numbers are more like those of a UT IF) can back 3rd (or Plouffe) if needed. This is correcting a couple mistakes. And the Twins are full of LH hitters. Don't need another one esp. if he cannot hit his weight.
  11. I think that maybe a new dedicated transaction place might make sense Wilken Ramirez after a game at Fort Myers (was in the Rochester DL) moved to New Britain... I think that he and Mastroianni officially switched spots.
  12. Mauer the DH tonight. Plouffe and Buterror on the bench; Thomas RF, Casilla moved to the #2 spot.
  13. One thing that has to be noted is that DFAing Burroughs opens a spot on the 40-man roster (hopefully for an infielder), so an infielder might be coming next; just hope his name is not Nishioka (still on the DL in Rochester btw)
  14. To make room for Butera Which means that Morneau (likely, you know the Twins' doctors) is ok and will not go to the DL. This (other than the Butera call up) is good news on both counts.
  15. I can see 1 and 3 , but since you live in FL, why would you care about relocation? Not that the Twins will relocate any time soon. I do intend to still be a fan of the other major Minnesota team, even though the locals are running it out of town...
  16. Not only Rochester but New Britain is up for grabs the coming off-season. I am willing to bet that the Twins will have 3 new MiLB affiliates for 2013 (other than the Miracle - and BTW the Lee County Board today approved the improvements for the Twins' ST complex and Hammond Stadium - a total of $60M - which will likely keep the Twins there until 2050...) To get a AAA team in IA/WI/MN, the Twins will either need to out the Cubs from Des Moines (tough) or have one of the other 15 PCL teams move (probably easier, but where? need to have a place to sustain a team). There is no way the PCL is expanding because it has 4 divisions of 4 teams each and is geographically too diverse. I do not see the IL moving that much West, but you never know...
  17. I've heard that the Twins are moving into Cedar Rapids (currenty the Angels' ML affiliate). If so, Twins' fans who live in MN and are interested in the minors will rejoice, not only because it is less than 4 hrs from the Cities by car, but because there are several direct flights from MSP to Cedar Rapids daily...
  18. well... His awfulness has been better than that of Butera, Thomas, Burroughs and Plouffe. I know it is sad, but it is true. Just not too many options out there at this point, unless they want to blow this thing up with trades and bring the kids up to play. If that is the case, get rid of Butera and bring up Herrmann. He is 24, not 19 or 20...
  19. I will actually say that the new generation of the Twins' fans do not really know also what real winning is (and I mean World Series) so they are complacent with winning divisions every other year or so... So they like mediocrity and boo when it drops below the mediocrity level. Ultima Ratio said it well above when he gave the Steelers' example: A winning organization sets the bar high. All the way high. The Twins do not do that and the fans are used to it...
  20. Plus Jose Lopez, just got DFA'd be CLE. Decent on the field middle infielder, right hand bat with some pop (think he hit 25+ a season with seattle) and not Ancient. I think if Mauer can catch he makes more sense than Drew.
  21. Agree on both counts (if Mauer cannot catch, and Rivera makes more sense than Butera). But this means that the Catcher goes back down as soon as Mauer can catch. I just hate what this does to the bench...
  22. Mauer, Capps and Nishioka got booed by Twins' fans. For some reason Cuddyer, even though he could never even dream about performing as good as Mauer has on a bad season, was spared. So has the manager for some reason that escapes me... Maybe it is the same reason.
  23. I hope that Morneau is healthy. In the beginning of the season the Twins had a nice bench. Right now, the bench is Clete Thomas, Drew Butera and Sean Burroughs, 3 players who are at best AAAA players. This is just not too good. And, regardless what we would like to believe about Butera's playing time, he will play... He is the only RH bat off the bench and I suspect that he will resume the role of Pavano's personal catcher. It just sucks, but the writing has been on the wall.
  24. Seth, I agree that minor leagues are 100% about player development and that it why I do care about Wins and Losses: Part of player development, in addition to learning how to toss and hit the curveball, is to establish a winning culture and to learn to hate losing. If the Twins' minor leaguers do not learn to hate losing in the minors, they will be ok with losing when they are in the majors. And if you want to win, you better have players (and managers and coaches and front office people) who are not ok with losing. Unfortunately the Twins lack this and it is a cultural thing and it starts in all levels, from the Dominical Academy to EST and instructionals, to the minors and the major league club.
