  1. At that point he has no trade value And I would argue that he is replaceable this season in an 111 loss team (this is the rate that the Twins are playing) and definitely next.
  2. They might get there, esp. Pinto, but nobody is there yet. I am glad that there are LH SPs because for a couple years the only one there was Danny Osterbrock and we know that he is no more
  3. That's pretty much much what I think too, and I am surprised that we ended up with opposing conclusions about Andy
  4. or D: Cuddaver was over-rated
  5. that would work. Remember Brian Buscher?
  6. That's probably part of the reason (I don't think it is homesickness as much as communication issues) that Liriano has been pitching better (like much better) when Rene Rivera catches him...
  7. Well, if no pitchers work in this organization lately, you got to blame the coach. Do not forget: The Twins have a higher investment in Liriano than in Anderson. It's about that simple. And the best pitcher who was developed by the Twins this century openly has been atributing his development to Bobby Cuellar and not Anderson.
  8. Look what the Pirates got for McClouth a few years ago (not retrospectively): An MLB-ready SP, and 2 of the Braves' top 5 prospects. I'd trade Span for something like this in a heartbeat. The Twins will do not need a 3B and 2B for years They have Sano and Rosario. ERA 1014/5. Need fillgaps until then.
  9. What can you do with Valencia right now? Send to the minors and bringing up who? Hollimon? Or give the job to Burroughs who sucks even more? Plouffe? He has been worse than Valencia also. Just not too many options. Just hope that he can shake the cobwebs and be average or so for a couple seasons until Sano is ready... that's about it.
  10. Maybe it's time for the Twins to look for a new pitching coach. Way too many pitchers seem to not reach their potential.... (and some of them toss perfect games in other organizations) just a thought
  11. My bad. Apparently was a waiver claim. I thought that it was too early for that
  12. too early to be a waiver claim... After DFA the team has 10 days to trade a player then he goes through waivers... so based on the timing it was a trade
  13. He is out of options. Not that easy...
  14. I would be surprised if he is a Twin come Monday
  15. Any word on what the Twins received in return? At this point it has to be a trade...
  16. The Twins got to trade their players high. I think that they will risk a lot if they do not trade Span this season and they will get a good return, hopefully a good SP if they trade him. Just too many centerfielders in the organization (Revere/Benson/Hicks/A. Morales) who can contribute this season and next and in 2014 not to do it...
  17. The problem with giving a day off to Casilla is that Plouffe will be the second baseman. Bad deal. That's why the Hughes DFA really limits this team. I do not mind Casilla at all btw. He has been fine on the field mostly, and will heat up with the bat. Just give him time. At this point he is hitting at the same rate as Valencia and better than Doumit, Plouffe, Burroughs. and playing better defence than all of them. He is the least of Twins' problems at the #9 spot
  18. Sergio Santos? Garrett Jones?
  19. Yeah... that's another one who got away from the incredible Twins' talent evaluators...
  20. In that case, Plouffe should be the right fielder I've seen Parmelee play RF in about 10-15 games now, most of them with the Rock Cats, some in ST and I think one or two with the Twins. He is very immobile out there. His range is not any better than Doumit's. He, like Doumit, is an outfielder on paper (like Kubel was.) I think that his future is at 1B (and with Sano and Harrison coming up and Morneau there for another season) his window there will be short... so unless he really concentrates in one position (he is not excellent defender in 1B) he will end up like Kubel (a DH and PT fielder) sooner than later.
  21. Indeed. However, add the fact that the lead the league in GIDPs and are the worse in SHs and SFs, that they are hitting a weird .222 when anyone is on 3rd base (regardless on whether there are men on other bases) and 2 outs, and then you can easily translate that into being the third worse in the AL as far as RS. But the good news is that all that weirdness (sacrifices and that runner on 3rd thing) will go away hopefully.... The GIDP is problematic, but it has always been the last few seasons...
  22. I agree with Seth re: Parmelee being in Rochester. Maybe he should have been optioned instead of Luke Hughes being cut the other day. To the original question: It seems to me that Gardenhire is doing what we wanted him to do forever: Have a true platoon. I have no issues with a Thomas/Plouffe RF platoon. Doumit can play there occasionally as well, but both he and Parmelee are as fleet of feet as Kubel was. So for the sake of defense I'd rather see the Thomas/Plouffe platoon. Would pretty much work like the originally envisioned Revere/Plouffe platoon (at LF) but at this point I think that Thomas maybe brings something more than Revere with the bat. If Doumit and Mauer catch 50% of the time and the other is either on 1B (Mauer) or at RF (Doumit) I have absolutely no problem with that.
  23. There is another part to add to the equation, which makes Bowden to Cubs very unlikely: a. he has to be bypassed by all the AL teams and a couple NL teams or b. he has to be traded directly to the Cubs by Boston and given the relationship between Cubs and Boston recently b is even more unlikely than a, which is very unlikely itself
