  1. How many total games has KLaw seen Rosario play at second base? Unless it is more than 20 or so, it is too small a sample to form an opinion. I remember him being in Beloit a grand total of one game this season...
  2. This can be tricky... Twins' top pitchers of all time (career numbers not only Twins' numbers; which will automatically have to include names like Steve Carlton) Twins' top pitchers of all time (Twins' only numbers) Twins' franchise top pitchers of all time (including the Senator years)
  3. I think that the Twins should buy low and sell high: see if they can pry Delgado and one of Andrelton Simmons or Tyler Pastornicky (the latter probably more likely at this point), even if they have to throw someone like Carroll or one of the AAAA middle infielders they have. They got to think intermediate term at this point (2014-2015)
  4. That would be wonderful, but the reasons that the Diamondbacks want to trade him are exactly the same reasons that would not make him a fit with the current Twins' pitching philosophy: The Diamondbacks have been trying to have him use his cutter/2-seamer down the zone while he likes to use this 4-seamer up the zone trying to blow it by hitters. Very similar situation to Matt Garza a couple years ago. Interesting to see how this might play out. But his numbers in PCL are more than promising
  5. I'd take the last 3 plus Solarte back
  6. Yikes! I was trying to be realistic. The Twins would totally make a deal like this. Christopher Ryan Young or Christopher Brandon Young?
  7. Inge can put Butera-like numbers for 5 times the cash. No, thank you!
  8. I think that the Twins are appealing to some free agents and unappealing to others for a variety of reasons. As a free agent someone has to decide whether he and his family can enjoy living in a place. The Twin Cities is a great place if you have a family or are from the Midwest. On the other hand, if you are a single Latino (or Japanese or Australian) guy, Miami or LA looks better. Different strokes for different folks. But I do not see a mass appealing or unappealing. NYC is unappealing to some. That's fine. On the other hand, do players want to be part of a championship team? Yes. Do players want to get paid as much as they can? Yes. Those 2 things might be factors.
  9. Maybe you need to add Morneau's line there too
  10. Don't forget the DFA Butera crowd (and can anyone believe that the Twins have 4 Cs on the 40-man, including Drew?)
  11. I don't know what it will take, but for sure it will be more than the 2y/$18M or so the Twins used to re-sign Pavano... 3y/$35ish M is closer or something like 1/$10+3ish in incentives. He is probably on the top of the FA SP class right now (and I do like him more than Greinke.)
  12. and the deal is apparently dead... Cubs pulled out at the last moment.
  13. AAA filler. Roenicke may have an outside chance as a long man out of the bullpen. Don't expect either of these guys to be on the 40-man for very long, both will be DFA'd in the near future with the hopes of keeping them in the organization. AAA filler is not a bad thing, not every single move will instantly upgrade your team. Their is a wrench to this: Apparently Roenicke is arbitration-eligible... so he is here to stay (or be moved before next month.)
  14. I've mentioned the price of the other available guys...which makes Span's value even better. Also, I'm not sure why the Twins HAVE to trade Span or Revere. They certainly should consider it based on needing pitching combined with their OF depth. But need to? I'd like to hear your thoughts on that. The Twins cannot afford two low SLG, good glove, SB, leadoff OFs when their MIF is going to be a mess. So one has to go. I'd take the one who is a better fielder, better runner, younger with higher up-side, and cheaper and trade the one who is on his prime with a decent contract...
  15. Haren has a $15.5M option for 2013. Allegedly the Angels are pitching in $3.5 M, which makes the cost to the Cubs $12M. Marmol's guaranteed salary for 2013 is $9.8M, which makes the net cost for Haren to the Cubs $2.2 M. Still don't get why Mr Ryan could not work a deal like this, by sending someone like Burton to the Angels (who is about as good at Marmol these days) and having the Angels eat more $.
  16. I think that the Twins are better of to try to get good pitchers through trades. The free agent market is overpriced esp. with the loss of draft picks
  17. Nope, was suggesting a plausible scenario in which your aggressive attitude about Span's value was false. You've gone out of your way to go after anyone that suggests Span isn't as attractive a commodity as some are suggesting. I've shared my opinion, you're welcome to yours as well. I hope yours is right, because then we'll turn Span into better value than I believe we will. But citing stats does not lead to a factual conclusion of trade value and it's silly to assert that. that. and there is another issue or two in play here: There are at least 3 CFs at the FA market who are better than Span (Bourn, Victorino, Pagan, Hunter maybe) but they cost more. Also, teams know that the Twins have to trade one of Span or Revere so that cuts down the expectations. As far as Span goes, his lack of concentration sometimes really bothers me. At the batter's box, on the bases, on the field. He has spurs that he seems to be in his own world. And I suspect that I am not the only one who has seen that.
  18. Best wishes to him. He always busted his tail off and never complained about playing time or anything. A total class act indeed.
  19. Yup, and they didn't lose him (yet, hopefully he doesn't opt to go elsewhere), so he's still around... hopefully there'll be 3-5 better options by spring training. Already are 4-5 better options (depends on who is counting) : Diamond, DeVries, Gibson, Hendriks, Baker. But I hope that they get at least 2 pitchers better than Diamond and have DeVries and Hendriks fight for the 5th spot and keep it warm until Gibson is well-rested.
  20. Good stuff! I assume that this lists only major league level trades (i.e. when at least one person was on a 25-man roster). Correct?
  21. Congrats! ESPN just picked up the handbook story
  22. You mean your inside source didn't already know that? Nope... I don't have any Twins' sources
  23. Based on recent history, DY will be Baltimore-bound
  24. Here is some interesting reading from the MLBtraderumors page of the pickup. There is a bit of info about Field and looks like Rockies' fans hated the move re:Roenicke. More details from the Denver post here: Roenicke really confused by the move and it is said that he was a popular guy at the clubhouse. Also reading the comments, more Denver fans hated Roenicke leaving. Both places fans feel he was one of the best in the team (again, the Rockies lost more games than the Twins last season)
  25. Per JoeC Deduno has not yet decided whether he will accept the assignment or become a FA. JoeC talked to his agent.
