  1. https://www.vox.com/mischiefs-of-faction/2018/6/20/17480304/how-democrats-can-shut-down-senate Possible means on stonewalling the Kennedy replacement?
  2. Flake is our only hope. He promised over the weekend to block any judicial nominee in committee if Trump/McConnell refuses to allow a vote on the tariffs. Perhaps Collins or others wouldn't be thrilled with a far-right Supreme Court, as I believe she may be pro-choice.
  3. He did author Citizens United, which in many ways, is traceable to Trump's eventual election.
  4. They won't. And it makes me angry, although it probably shouldn't since it's part and parcel with their character.
  5. He authored Obergefell among other victories for social liberals. His replacement will be much, much worse.
  6. Kennedy retires.
  7. Handicap accessible! Child accommodations!
  8. Another show I've recently been binging is Netflix's Sense 8 (it's only two seasons, but it had me hooked this weekend).
  9. I was thinking that the scene with William indicated that the present story line was taking place further in the future than we realized. As he looks like he just came back from blowing up his hand confronting Delores. I'm just not sure I care any more about the show. I thought BSG played out the worthwhile philosophical underpinnings of human v. robot/cylon/host; and Westworld confuses convolution for depth--the immortality for humans angle had potential, but it got buried in all the brutality and look-at-me cleverness.
  10. Yeah. I was let down. It's like Lost but more convoluted and with less likable characters.
  11. Agreed. It's a bit slow going at first; and the characters take a while for them to warm up to you. But it's just excellent. Great narrative direction, pacing, writing. Complex characters. Complex world that's believable and rich. (I still like BSG better, even with its missteps in the final season).
  12. The Space Force will be manning the new Sky Wall, once the Democrats care about children enough to fund it! Duh!
  13. Yeah, it's the minority political party's fault. If the Democrats would only take control of the presidency, and both branches of congress, we'd all be in a lot better position. The Republicans have accomplished ONE legislative item -- tax cuts. We know what their priorities are. Why do you support them? I seriously doubt their policy has helped you practically (unless you're very rich), beyond that warm feeling of smiting thy enemies!
  14. Thanks for steering the thread in a more positive direction!
  15. Dude, I don't think you're a slave owner. But I think you're being sheepish believing that a significant portion of the children separated from their parents are being protected from trafficking. Most are here, because their parents want a better life for their children, and I guess we really are sticking it to them for believing that! Anti-white bias? Oh boy, we have it so rough. Everyone you've been discussing this with is white, btw. Sadly, the our discussion forum, as inclusive as we'd have it, isn't all that diverse. The notion of anti-white bias is a bit snowflakey anyway don't you think?
  16. Children don't need to be protected from their own parents. Sex trafficking does happen. But this is an absurd way to address that issue. The vast majority of the children and parents being separated are refugees; yes coming here illegally, but many seeking asylum. Their crime is seeking a better life. What would you do for your child? If I was born into the poverty of some of these Central American countries, I would try to get myself and my child to America, where there might be hope for us. And I bet you would do the same. That should not be a crime; even if we cannot accept these people within our borders. Let us not lose our empathy, our better selves.
  17. I deleted my post, it's not worth fighting over it. I agree indignation over truth is ugly. So is indignation over innocent exaggeration.
  18. I can't disprove statistics that he makes up. The burden is on you. Do you really think 83% of the people trying to come in the country are sexual predators? You need to establish that as fact. I can't disprove a fake statistic. The way the system works is if you are in this country illegally, they criminally prosecute you for that illegal status (not because you are a sexual predator, I mean, how the heck would they even know that!), and then they take your children away. These people have committed no crime beyond their mere presence. Again, the burden is on you to show that the children are being protected, but that flies in the face of common sense. Have you listened to that audio tape. These children are not crying out in thanks. I really, really don't mean to insult you. But is it possible that Trump is telling you want to hear, and not the truth? Look, I live in Arizona, we might be neighbors. But a lot of these people being prosecuted might be family members of our neighbors; we can't just assume they are sexual predators, and take their children away. And more, they have no plan to bring the parents and children back together after deportation. That's not only wrong, but very impractical, and lacks any kind of prudence. Sure, we need to have system for dealing with this people; before Trump, we did this through a civil process, not it is criminal. Remember we will be judged for how we treat the weak, the sick, and the strangers.
  19. Those are Trump's quotes. He's making this stuff up, my friend. He's lying to you, and you're willingly eating it up. The president of the American Academy of Pediatrics declared that the treatment of these children is child abuse. The policy is morally wrong and is NOT dictated by law.
  20. It's hard for me not to see the Lakers getting all three of LBJ, George and Leonard. Leonard may recoup what he loses from the supermax deal in marketing from playing for his hometown Lakers.
  21. Do you think his statistical profile to date suggest otherwise? (I.e. that if not for his supposed poor clubhouse presence he'd be worthwhile to the club). These kind of assertions need to be support with facts.
  22. The common inference, here, might be negative, but I think that millennials are willing to spend money to attend part of the game is a good thing for baseball. They go to the ballpark to have a good time, and when they get bored, they leave. They aren't invested in the outcome; they are invested in the experience of being outside at a ballgame. They may disappoint us hardcore fans, but it's a reality for many, many who attend games, I'd argue the great majority. They go for the park-like, summer-time atmosphere (honestly, it's a bit like tail-gaiting; and I think stadiums should adopt some of those features; can you imagine a grill guy in your section?!). Not to see who wins. Sure they root for the home team, but they don't have any investment in chasing the outcome to the last inning. If this is the case, shorting the game doesn't really matter. Rather if baseball wants to increase revenue, they need to create more investment to stay; the investment to come is already there.
  23. This whole biblical thing is obviously a play to their base, who probably was pushing back on the policy some.
  24. Falvey indicates while there's no timeline, they don't plan it being a longer length of time than spring training.
