  2. Here's another article that's relevant to some past discussions: Democrats Must Reclaim the Center … by Moving Hard Left
  3. Elizabeth Warren is introducing a bill called the Accountable Capitalism Act. Seems like a good idea to me.
  4. We need to at least create institutions that can foster the possibility of reform for even those who have committed atrocious crimes. And I think we need to develop means other than incarceration of separating dangerous people from the masses. What such institutions and methods look like, I'm not sure, but I believe we can do a much better job of dealing with this particular problem than locking them up and throwing away the key. Much of my thinking is premised that the majority of atrocious crimes are born out of mental illness and trauma, and not because some people are simply evil. There may be people who are incapable of reform, but I think that number is probably smaller than we believe, especially if we're willing to understand and treat the root causes of their criminal/dangerous behavior.
  5. There's also bipartisan support (or at least there was during the last administration) for a number of cost-saving (which also happen to be ethical) reforms.
  6. I wouldn't hold you to anything; and I'm just testing the waters of conversation (answering your question in my almost-confrontational way).
  7. What if such a condition is born out of her/his biology (if not her/his circumstance)? I think we need to account for and work to encompass such personalities. Put another way: cut the crazies off at the pass--anticipate them.
  8. I've got like six more months of this sweet sweet youth.
  9. We need more old people discussing modern technology (etc.) threads.
  10. I say we run out multiple openers, and let the starting pitcher finish games.
  11. Of course it leads back to Delmon Young and Duensing (whom should have been included in every trade made when he was on the team).
  12. Knoblauch trade tree kept giving for a while. Has that finally been expunged?
  13. Gene Rossi, former US Attorney, was just on Rachel Maddow and vouched that Judge Ellis is always like this (being hard on attorneys, often the prosecution, but not always) and called him a perfectionist and brilliant jurist. You can watch for yourself, around the 40 min mark; the whole segment is worth watching though (which starts 5-10 mins earlier), as he gives insight to the Manafort case generally.
  14. Yes, I've seen these reports. Yet no one is alleging any bias at trial, and there are a ton of eyes watching. When I see a credible argument where the judge abuses his discretion in making a ruling, I'll be concerned. But that yet hasn't been the case.
  15. I've seen some of it. And it's troubling, but it hasn't manifested in blatant bias at the trial level, as far as I can see. I believe that he's a set-in-his-ways-conservative-judge, but I don't think he's in the tank for Trump or will defy the rule of law.
  16. I don't think that's the case. I think the judge is being very careful in screening potentially non-relevant evidence, which if admitted could be grounds for reversal on appeal.
  17. Looks like he's committing to the collusion isn't illegal theory. Good luck with that one.
  18. I certainly hope that keeping Rodney won't preclude us looking for bullpen upgrades.
  19. Like who? It's fine to conceive of better-valued relievers, it's another thing for that reliever to actually exist on the FA market. Heck, we signed Addison Reed, which is kind of the guy you're asking for. Relievers are no sure bets. Might be better to bring in a few on lower costs than add another 4 million to whomever. Rodney will be back, and it won't be stupid to bring him back. (Though he can be frustrating to watch...)
  20. Shouldn't this thread be in the minor league forum? (kidding. kind of)
  21. Why is he already shooting an already dead chicken dinner? Is this the point? It must be the point.
