  1. Flake and Collins are still weighing their final vote, I think that they haven't verbally committed to him, when it would be easy to do that after this procedural vote is still significant. But I am not hopeful.
  2. The division is not geographical. I still think the route of our divide is wealth-related. The wealthy are very good at mobilizing the GOP on a few hedge issues like guns, abortion, immigration, terrorism to engender the fearful ignorant into supporting their tax cuts and economic tomfoolery. I'm not sure how you bring the country together in short order. I do think over the long run as people will gain technological and media literacy, the ignorant won't be so duped.
  3. If all the Dems hold the line, they only need one more in addition to Flake.
  4. The report will almost certainly be leaked in one form or another, especially if the entire senate is given a copy.
  5. Does anyone have the ballboy's phone number?
  6. You mean he didn't pull himself up by his bootstraps?!
  7. Except for a track-record of putting that skill-set towards winning...
  8. It also appears that Kavanaugh knew about the Ramirez allegations before she actually made them.
  9. Evidently, the FBI now has free reign to look into the allegations, despite the two-day limited-scope start. At least Flake seems to be following through on more than simply providing cover for his GOP colleagues.
  10. I just want to note, that it struck me odd during the hearing that BK admitted he didn't watch Ford's testimony because he was preparing. If someone falsely accuses you, wouldn't you want to watch their testimony to see to what extent they lie or mistake or even reveal intimate details about? Wouldn't that be key to such preparation, even if you knew the alleged even was largely false, especially from the point of view of a diligent lawyer and jurist? I'm left with one of obvious reason he wouldn't need to watch: he knows it's true.
  11. This is an interesting twitter thread about the ex-boyfriend who introduced Ford to BK.
  12. Judge has said he would comply with a confidential FBI interview (whatever that means). I also don't know to what extent Judge can simply take the 5th or refuse to comply if he doesn't want to answer the question. He hasn't been subpoenaed.
  13. NSFW https://twitter.com/rob_bennett/status/1045724782510182400
  14. It may be a farce. But getting some kind of investigation, while not a victory, is important, at least to me.
  15. I really enjoyed the Netflix show Maniac. It's weird, but really stylish and moving.
  16. Politically it may be a bit of loss (unless it looks like a rubber stamp or the investigation finds bad facts but the GOP still push it through); but procedurally it's a victory for the country.
  17. And it looks like the GOP has agreed to delay his confirmation by a week.
  18. Well Flake just threw a wrench in the gears; he won't vote yes unless there's an FBI investigation. And it's pretty clear to me, he'll be running in 2020, though I wonder as a Republican or as an Independent.
  19. I think the GOP just decided the SCOTUS seat was more important than the Senate.
  20. The Editors: It is time for the Kavanaugh nomination to be withdrawn from the American Magazine: The Jesuit Review My instincts still say the GOP will go through with confirming him, but organizations who supported him are changing their mind. They better vote soon, because by Monday, the country may be firmly against him.
  21. It's just the Judiciary Committee vote. Kavanuagh will have to survive through the weekend likely, although there is some talk of a Saturday vote.
