    I stated this in another post, but the money quote from JR to me is the stat-line quip about Slama. There's more going on with how the Twins view Slama's place in the organization. My guess, Slama doesn't run through first base during bunting practice.

    A team that has carried 13 pitchers for significant stretches of the season can sure as hell find some innings. Hell, you could lighten the load on Perkins and Burton down the stretch to help their arms. Besides.....what else is he doing for the next month exactly? I was hinting that the Twins have other problems with Slama that we don't know about; whatever they are, and until the Twins choose to reveal them, it will seem unreasonable that he hasn't been promoted. This isn't anything new with the Twins. I think JR's comment about the "stat-line" gives us a clue about what the Twins think about non-stat Slama.

    Roster spots don't equate to innings or at bats. There's actually a limit to opportunity. I also don't buy the cheap-skate Twins meme. There's probably more to why Slama (and Dozier) isn't currently on the roster, but it's not a story the Twins are willing to tell.

    Trading Morneau is not about saving money, it is about being able to use that money to make one (just ONE, please, Terry?) FA starting pitcher signing that means something beyond the Jeremy Guthries of the world. Morneau could yield one top prospect and some lower prospect (the Twins could throw in something else like Swarzak and Bigley).. You're dreaming if you think Morneau gets a top prospect or if the money saved will be reinvested in order for the Twins to compete in 2013; if the Twins trade Morneau this offseason, I'll take it as a whiteflag for 2013. In any case, the Twins will already be tens of millions below budget. They can afford Morneau and starting pitchers if they choose.

    If you trade anyone from our surplus it should not be done to save money, but to obtain talent. In that case, Morneau is the WORST candidate to trade as he will bring the least in return. Span is killing his value with injuries, but I hope he gets back out there and finishes the season, because he makes the most sense to trade with the glut of CFers.

    Hard not to like Michael's walk rate. If he can play defense and even hit just a little, he'd be a god send compared to what they've had for what seems like a decade. Let's give the guy more than one season to develop his bat.

    It would be. The sarcasm, overt hyperbole, and general good will from individuals would be a lot more palatable. Like you said, when we talk about actual policy, we'll come to some agreements if we're willing to give ideologically. I guess my problem is some of the underlying assumptions that buttress libertarian thinking (likewise, I'm sure some feel the same way about liberalism or social conservatism), and it is in that argument, where we can get heated.

    Conservatives don't necessarily equal Republican. People have no problem identifying as conservative (which means different things to different people); the Republican brand, however, might be too right for even self-identified conservatives to identify with.

    When someone bolds logical fallacies we know that they are new to them; it's like underlining the word-of-the-day. Killer, you used a big word; so proud! RP and Levi are killing it plenty here, and I'm glad my liberal ass is posting in this thread to illuminate their moderation, because their points are wholly legitimate. Here's hoping I don't color their fine points more fringe by continuing on. Look, even a biased dude like me can live with what the ****ed-up populace votes into office. That's democracy, it might be stupid, but it gets what it deserves. Voting suppression is so ugly and cynical; the whole idea is pretensed on giving up on humanity, giving up on educating people to one's insightful ideology, and actively working against the interest of people whom no ones cares to persuade. UR, can you really stand behind a party win if it's done through means that delegitimize honest votes? Indeed, part of my American pride comes from the fact that we are not Machiavelli; that we go about **** in an honest way. (Caution: the following statements and questions form a slippery slope.) Is the cost of preventing fraud worth delegitimizing honest votes that work against my beliefs? Do I believe that my ideology, my means of governing is worth suppressing other peoples' votes for their own good, with only their foolish opinions of their own lives as a defense? (Slips.) How, again, do we define fascism? A police state? Indeed, to what ends are individuals of a singular philosophy willing to ensure, even if by overtly malevolent means, their preferred outcome?
