  1. And to appease the negative nancys, Wolfson also tweeted this: Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson 5h @enge0280 They may. I just don't get the feel it'll be Abreu. They're still in on SS Guerrero. Bet they'll be in on Japan P Masahiro Tanaka.
  2. Yeah, good luck, Mike. It would have been nice to see an all BYTO championship series, but oh well.
  3. Buxton on base seven times today.
  4. I've clearly crossed the line! Specious refers to your reasoning, not your character. Dude is not a pejorative.
  5. Drawing any conclusion about Hick's work ethic from his observable career is totally specious and speculative, dude. And while this is just more speculation from me, I seriously doubt the Twins would start a rookie in CF who skipped AAA if he had work ethic problems.
  6. MLB Past and Future Payrolls via fan graphs Super neat tool that allows you to sift through the different years (from 1998) and teams. Given how much we argue about payroll around here, it might be for fun for some.
  7. Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson With #MNTwins VP Mike Radcliff heading to Japan in the coming weeks, I suspect he'll watch pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. Big-time FA this winter. via mlbtraderumors
  8. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 21m Alex Meyer touched 98 on Monday. Being promoted back to New Britain
  9. He's recovering from TJ surgery and facing major league hitters for the first time. I wouldn't read too much into his failure this season as it portends for his future.
  10. The Twins are one game behind/ahead of the 4th pick (Cubs/Brewers), but if they start winning they are four games off the 14th pick (Rockies). So lots of volatility.
  11. Meyer 9 Ks in 3.2. Wtf, that's two guys that didn't strikeout. Come on, Alex.
  12. This speaks to the rarity of quality starting pitching more than anything else. The Twins don't get better by releasing Albers. They get better by acquiring viable alternatives, which is really, really hard to do.
  13. Sano and Kepler strong nights (homers and doubles). Buxton boring with his double and triple.
  14. I can't blame the Twins for liking dependable innings. But these innings were hardly dependable. It's like signing Correia to a five year contract. Go year to year with the innings guys, come on.
  15. May with 9ks 1bb in 5.2 innings, but allowed 4 runs on 10 hits (4 xtra bases).
  16. The fact that you can even compare them should tell you enough.
  17. I think and hope that the Twins maintain a high price for Morneua or simply keep him. They are betting that some team gets desperate enough, which could certainly happen.
  18. Teams may have known it wasn't going to be a simple salary dump, and the Twins would just take Morneau back if they didn't get a prospect back they liked.
  19. They will bring in several other guys, and odds are a few of them will be better than this lot. You're discounting the volatility of pitching; some of these guys will regress and some of the flotsam will out perform their career trends. And this doesn't even speak to their capacity to sign a reasonable option.
  20. Well some one said "worse case scenario is the predictive model for the Twins" (in spite of their gains in minor league talent). My point is it's not at all "realistic" to think that Deduno/Albers/Gibson/Correia/AAAA will be the opening day rotation--that's a cynical worst case scenario. That's what I'm arguing against. The bemoaning of the front office seems loudest when we simply focus on what they did worse. Cynical posters continue to extend the failure in free agent pitchers (which mostly every other team failed in too) to a failure in the front office at large. The continued Twins/Terry Ryan don't know what they are doing narrative just gets super old.
  21. Of course they weren't but they had limited success at various points throughout the season. Which is why predicting the rotation to be made primarily of current placeholder seems rather eager...
  22. What part of worst case scenario is having the best minor league system in baseball?
  23. When you equate realism with worst case scenario, I call that cynicism. Everyone's got different notions of what's realistic. For my part, there really isn't much accuracy in the OP (no offense intended); the Twins will acquire a number of other options that will replace any number of the ones listed. Think about it, if we did this exercise last year at this time, we'd have Diamond, Devries, and Walters in the rotation.
  24. I think it says that teams are cheap. And that if they are going to give up something of value, they'll want the Twins to eat some of the contract. I think a PTBNL (unless its for service time reasons) trade is less likely now. My read is that the Twins want a good piece back, or will just hold on to him. Essentially the Twins might have to pay for a prospect, which, honestly, is preferable.
  25. I'm surprised no one claimed him. His bat would help a lot of teams. I guess his salary really is an albatross (which seems odd to me, given how many teams need a bat). The Twins aren't the only ones who play cheap evidently.
