    I build for depth because we really just don't know who will become elite players--or keep playing at elite levels. That said, I do acquire players that at least have the spectre of eliteness. Here's hoping Pineda and Bauer can become that. What I've realized it's relatively easy to keep the minors full of prospects. You and teamname continue to stay relevant, always impressive. Ben's made deft player acquisitions that always leave me feeling, why didn't I do that.

    Oi. He's being petulant. There was a lot of rule-breaking going on, and I think I pointed out Parker's infraction initially. The whole "It doesn't matter, but I should be able to do it because I'm at a disadvantage" is mind-numbingly hypocritical. Especially dislike his threat to tank, that's just bad form. My team might actually make the playoffs, of course depending on health etc. For once, there might reason to pay attention late in the season.

    I'd rather risk injury than lack of talent, Allard or even Aiken would be my picks. Recent picks Giolito and Hoffman demonstrate that the risk of taken an injured thoroughbred can be worth it

    Howard is someone you acquire in August; when it's clear no one in the organization is deserving of DH at bats. As long as Hicks plays defense well and doesn't make foolish mistakes, the Twins will ride him out until Buxton proves ready; I see no need for Revere given the plethora of youthful options (Rosario, and even Kepler included).

    I'd just like to say that it's fine not to agree with something the Twins do, or to disagree with an explanation a poster gives to explain their behavior. What I think is problematic is suggesting that the reasoning is beyond comprehension, that it's totally mysterious, that there can be no reasonable explanation. The exasperation in this thread is honestly skin-curdling. It doesn't create a discussion, it creates a mob, where credible arguments are scoffed at and the exasperated rally continues on. (I'm not sure I even agree with the move, given that I don't really know Vargas' developmental need. The tone of the thread isn't really allowing a middle ground.)

    Somebody needs to be the 25th man (and Bernier actually is a player, and will play, so your 24 man argument is phoey, or it's one you should have been making before Vargas was sent down). If Molitor is going to send Rosario, Escobar, Nunez or whoever ahead of Vargas to pinch hit, it's not horrible to have the 25th who can offer defensive flexibility, especially when it's probably just for short duration until Arcia comes back. The plan was probably to send Vargas down, not to keep Bernier up. Things have clearly changed since Spring Training, and the plan should be to do what's best for both Vargas and the Twins long term. Not to maximize Vargas value as semi-player until other players get healthy. The sooner he goes down the sooner he can correct what caused him to go down. I just think that Vargas' longterm development outweighs whatever minimal production he could give the Twins in the interim. Bernier is an easy target because he's an old, career minor leaguer, it's not like he traded roster spots with Vargas--if he had, the shade you're throwing the Twins would be a lot more founded. If your argument is: "I don't trust the Twins to handle player development," well then there's no discussion to be had, and let's leave it at that.

    Maybe this has been answered to your satisfaction. Bernier provides the benefit of not playing him and not hurting his development. When weighing the developmental effects of not playing Vargas much against NL teams and playing him part time against AL teams against the value Vargas provides as pinch hitter and part time player, I think it's easy to identify the Twins thinking even if you don't agree with it. I imagine Escobar's failure to provide adequate OF defense while still hitting, combined with Rosario's penchant for outfield defense (given the competition), and combined with the inevitability of Arcia's return all weighed in favor of getting Vargas AAA at at bats (of which he's had none).

    I've noticed that some teams are streaming SPs and putting RPs in SP slots; two teams have made such offenses against me this week. I usually don't think to check the other teams box score unless it's a close match up, but it's not just new owners that are guilty of gaming the rules. I wondering if we need harsh penalties beyond just deducting the extra points earned. That said, how's everyone's team coming along?
