  1. Maybe I could have phrased it like "Plouffe's aerophobia became uncontrollable" but now we're nitpicking. Royce White's aerophobia has been well documented and he's still "wasting his time" pursuing an NBA career.
  2. Just to get this straight: Rational fears affecting performance (i.e. running into walls, beanballs, getting "Swish-ioka-ed") are unacceptable. Irrational fears (MRIs, planes, heights, clowns) are part of the fallibility of humans and exempt from criticism.
  3. What if Plouffe wakes up tomorrow and has a newly manifested aerophobia? I guess we should pat him on the back and say "It's ok, big guy. You can just play the home games.". Anyone want to tackle this hypothetical?
  4. I think it's a pretty reasonable expectation for a professional athlete to get the necessary diagnostics done on an injury. Athletes can disagree with their team about the course of treatment, not about getting diagnostic work done when said player has been wasting a spot on the roster for a week. Span is not dangling from the top of the IDS Center washing windows or being asked to climb into a box full of snakes. He's being asked to have a very common, safe test done to determine if the Twins should continue to waste another bench spot. What if Plouffe wakes up tomorrow and has a newly manifested aerophobia? I guess we should pat him on the back and say "It's ok, big guy. You can just play the home games.".
  5. You would think the Twins wouldn't be so cavalier with their bench spots, given they have a useless catcher who is one of the worst hitters in the history of baseball rotting there 4-5 days a week. It's tough to make any late inning moves when the bench consists of Butera, Casilla and my grandmother.
  6. "Within budget" means anything left over after this is filled: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQcpinfX-_rXQtDMbzrYLVTaTofHJ3O8vSVOP1JHBJm3_agUwKwgQ
  7. You have more faith in the Twins than I do. I'm predicting more dumpster diving like Jeremy Guthrie or the Athlete Formerly Known as Fausto Carmona.
  8. I think the difference is this is Romy's fourth year of professional ball and the college first rounders have been pros for about a month. Granted, he's only had 308 ABs and probably has had some adjustments to a different culture and language, but he should be more comfortable and focused than your average 21 year old millionare who is a few games into his pro career. But as you stated, let's see how he does in Beloit.

  10. Can Nick Blackburn be fixed? There has to be a more humane way to eliminate the possibility of Blackburn offspring stinking up future Twins pitching staffs.
  11. +1 I've had enough of the excuses made for Blackburn by the Twins and their apologists. He's too strong early in the game, so his sinker won't sink. He's battling through injuries. He's battling his tail off. He's close. Maybe the real reason for Blackie's struggles is he's a replacement-level pitcher with a penchant for grooving waist-high sinkers over the middle of the plate.
  12. Since the question is basically "What kind of turd sandwich do you want?", it makes sense to make a move that causes as little disruption to the roster as possible (someone off the 40 man). They keep Duensing in the bullpen, he has found his niche. DeVries just got sent down, he's out of it. Manship is the logical choice IMO.
  13. Go read a Sid column if you're looking for fellatious drivel.
  14. ...or Mel Stottlemyre.
  15. sotafan, I agree with your guys to actively shop, with Doumit being one possible exception. Souhan suggested trying to lock him in to a club-friendly extension first and only shop him if he won't sign. Also, I like Span but he might be at peak value right now. If they can package him to get a good, young SP (pipe dream?), I'm all for it. IMO if the Twins sign a FA SP in 2013, it will be someone like El Duque or Todd Stottlemyre, not Greinke or Sanchez.
  16. Dear Target Field Patrons, Can we please hold off on the "Plooooooouffe" chant until he becomes at least a replacement level player? I know it's really fun and I'm asking for a lot, but guys who are hitting .150, play subpar defense and run the bases with their asshat on should not be singled out every time they make a decent play. It's giving me terrible Lew Ford flashbacks.
