  1. We still have a chance to be saved by the Giants!
  2. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/twins-among-teams-with-interest-in-dansby-swanson.html "The Dodgers are reportedly uninterested in Correa, ...." https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/dodgers-are-not-pursuing-carlos-correa.html "The departure of Trea Turner to the Phillies has left the Dodgers with a bit of a hole at shortstop, but it seems they won’t be filling that spot with top free agent option Carlos Correa. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the team is not pursuing the former Astro and Twin, in part due to his involvement in the Astros’ sign-stealing team of 2017 that beat the Dodgers in the World Series, and how that might upset a large portion of their fanbase." End of story? hmmmmmmmmm. I guess they DO care, and reality is calling.
  3. Trying to stay comfortably under the first luxury tax tier…..
  4. So crowded that last year we ended up with Cave, Contreras, and Wallner. May as well trade Kirilloff. Most don't seem to care enough about him to even learn to actually spell his name right after all these years.
  5. Winning dysfunction. I could use a little of that. Just like Houston's last 3 years, regardless if it all falls apart after that, which I wouldn't bet on happening for Houston even next year yet.
  6. The best part about Mahle, with his 4.00ish ERA, is that now that he is on the Twins and doesn't pitch to/at us, he can't break Buxton's hand anymore with one of his out of control pitches. Expected numbers are never as attractive as actual performance.
  7. I wouldn't say that is always true. As nasty as the whole cheating scandal was in Houston, after the changes and penalties, the Houston "culture" seems to be quite successful when it comes to results, if a "winning culture" is what the goal is. And that was with what may be the most active owner in baseball since the scandal. The players still have to suffer through endless hatred on the road, and seem to all like each other, have bonded together, and appear to very much be a family - even the rookies like Jeremy Pena.
  8. "Most recently, as Executive Vice President, he was involved in the rollout of the new Twins branding, logo, and uniforms, including introducing the changes to the media and fans at the Mall of America earlier this month." "Executive VP of Brand Strategy". Rebranding is his one shining moment so far? Impressive. Fashionista. Something that really means something. That's something to hang his (new) hat on........... But seriously.... I wish him the best. Nepotism doesn't have to be a negative. I hope he likes to spend lots of his Dad's and Uncles' money.
  9. "Batters hit .245 against his slider but slugged nearly .500 against it. However, the xSLG versus his slider was 143 points lower, so that might point to luck from batters against that pitch." Not quite sure what you are saying here....... @Cody Christie I can't see either party wanting an extension yet at this point - one year of the show in the books.
  10. Well, looks like we didn't even have time to get to high noon to draw. ?ZZZZZZZzzzzzzz?
  11. Sign Contreras and Narvaez and you have the R/L covered, and trade Jeffers or, if options left, have him for depth. That is what he should be. Depth, He has had many years to mature and he is just getting worse at the plate.
  12. Everyone has opinions. I agree with Jim Callis, that our best chance for a ROY is Lewis. Wallner, with very weak defense and worse than Sanoesque strikeout tendencies (and in the minors) would be a massive surprise for me. https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/pipeline-drafts-2023-rookie-of-the-year-teams?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage
  13. Looks to me like mikelink45 is well aware that Steer is now a Red, @mickster
  14. "with great stuff "..... I love it. Stuff. The oft used term/phrase. Stuff. They consistently under perform for years with the "great (unspecific) stuff", yet are always worth another try to watch them get bombed again on your team, all the while flashing some flashes of that elusive "great stuff". And they get paid several millions of dollars to fail once again. Hell, our pitching gurus of a FO picked up the pitcher with perhaps the worst overall stat lines for a relief pitcher spanning the last three seasons and two different teams and leagues, Pagan, because of what? Wait for it.........."Stuff". Sometimes, they are even "young for their level" and have the "great stuff". That is some heavy stuff.
  15. Seems like the favorite thing to repetitively say is "young for his level", like that ever matters in the scope of a career. The minors are full of long term players that will never make it and get old there. Young is 20 to 23 for the show. 24 -28/9 is prime time for most that make it. I guess it is a fall back for writing about someone, regardless if it really matters.
  16. They actually pay people to do this. And people will buy them. As P. T. Barnum is credited with saying, "There's a sucker born every minute".
  17. The Orioles traded him and they were in a race for the playoffs as much as the Twins were. To me, that was an immediate red flag. It made no sense, unless the Orioles were aware of something that was not so obvious. He was good for 3 months. But both Buxton and Correa were on record as wanting him and thinking he was wicked. Alas..... he could be a 3 month wonder. I hope not. It is not unusual. Maeda had a great 3 month season in 2020. We will see.
  18. I think that it is the biggest part of the decline. The FO folks are hired guns, with little loyalty to the teams that hire them... virtual visitors running the show. They are most interested in advancing their personal career, and would leave for the bigger money without remorse. They trade off the fan favorites for prospects continually and fill rosters with other filler visitors for a year or two if they are lucky and the home team becomes predominantly strangers. We end up haveing to root for many we don't even like. It can make even a life long fan become disenchanted.
  19. Kansas City's World Series winning model of mediocre starters going 6 innings but 3 shutdown relievers closing out the wins didn't last long, but it sure was effective. Now teams' FO's and Managers barely let starters complete 5 innings. Many claim that relievers are not to be paid much and are only good for short term, yet they want Duran to commit to that role and be under paid and tossed out after a couple years as a toasted pen arm. That right there is a reason to try him in the starting rotation and get others to man the pen, and a reason for Duran to push to start to maximize his career earnings.
  20. Jax led MLB in meltdowns, yet is touted as one of our best of 2022. Go figure. What does that say about our pen?
  21. Looks like the awards platforms are confused, and inconsistent. For GG he is a First Baseman, even though there is a GG for Utility. For Silver Slugger he is a Utility Player, even though there is a Silver Slugger for a First Baseman, And, really, in what type of advanced stat can Arraez be considered ....... a "slugger", It would really be something if he would have won a GG as a DH. That would truly be noteworthy!
