  1. I guess pitchers are excluded from the statement....... "Today, almost all players on the field seemingly have bodies like P90X background actors."
  2. "Jose Mijares will be playing for the team from Venezuela." I bet Jose shows up late.
  3. Refute, dispute, or confirm.
  4. "Outside of just six games at DH, Jairo made the rest of his starts behind the plate in 2012. He threw out 24 of 46 runners attempting to steal for a very respectable 36% throw-out rate." Something is not right here...... either the fuzzy math, or there were more runners and that is a typo. Thanks for the player profiles - looking forward to these. If this has already been mentioned, sorry, but no comments are coming up here.
  5. Sorry..... I posted as a read from the beginning not noticing that the thread had gone postal. No delete, so I apologize here. It was preditable, though, eh ThePuck? ;-)
  6. Look out! ThePuck is bound to have all kinds of fervor about this one.............
  7. I don't like the WBC at all. The timing is bad, and forces folks to perform at a level that they are not prepared for. Once the adrenalin sets in and the competition revs up, the players will do things that their body is not ready for, and the chances of getting hurt get massive and are not worth it. The Olympics is where to do this type of thing for your country, and now baseball is not even in the Olympics. If I was an owner, I would have it in my contracts that none of my players could play in the WBC. This really isn't about representing your country. It's just the WBC. I, for one, could care less about this silly competition with athletes not even in shape to compete. It really doesn't mean anything. Now the Twins best player and closer are exposing themselves. Just what a last place team needs, eh? Good luck Joe and Glen. Come back healthy.
  8. Poor Willingham. He performs, and all folks want to talk about is that he will only do worse in the future. Show them all wrong Hammer!
  9. 1. not an argument. i never try to or care to adjust anyone's opinion. just an observation and remembrance. 2. i want clutch and consistent. i want it all. i don't do fantasy. but i believe in dreaming. 3. this race had nothing to do with any other race. it was what it was, and the last seven games are history. 4. you are.
  10. Let's see......... .326 at the end of the day on September 25, to .319 after the next and last 7 games is .......... .007. Seven points. I am not understanding this fuzzy arithmetic. You are a professed and talented stat man. No biggy. Yes. My answer is yes, I think anyone that has a fire and competitive edge about them, and it is well documented that Joe Mauer does in everything he "plays", would be feeling pressure to complete the surge and take the title. The sweetest title is the one you just won. It was about the only excitement for the Twins the whole season, to have Joe to watch down the stretch with a possible 4th title coming with his batting surge. Your posts on this thread look like just another example of defending someone that doesn't need defended. I still think Joe will be better next year.
  11. How did he do the last 7 games.... after he was up to .326 on September 25th, and pressing for the title? That was when the pressure was on. He went "oh" fer five of the games, and 4/23 to slide to .319. I still think he will be better. Is it bad to always think someone with Joe's greatness will always be better? Those 7 games is like someone going 4/23 in the series. Granted, the rest of September got him to where he could be in a pressure situation.
  12. Watching Mauer get turned off at the end of the season, instead of Mauer turning it on and excelling, was just another disappointment to go with the rest last year. It was individual pressure, but he still wilted and didn't perform when the pressure was on. Wilted. The Twins need a Panda, a Scutaro, someone that comes up big at moneyball time. But for Joe, I always think he can be better. Didn't his dad so boldly say he would be the next .400 hitter? Only about a hundred times he said it. I also think the big huge guy that is now a man can poke the ball out of the park at least 30 times. Anybody that big can. So I think he will be better. I always think he will be better.
  13. A lot of fans are banking on Diamond. Personally, I think it is a fools bet at this time, but who else has the Front Office given anyone to bank on? Some pretty high odds at this time.
  14. Neither. Absolutely, neither.
  15. I still miss the 4 man rotations.
  16. Does this mean you think Terry Ryan is lying when he repeatedly tells you and the rest of the world that money in not an issue here? Would Terry Ryan lie to the media and fans like that? Terry???
  17. CC could very well be the surprise of the season, especially with his "process" in play. Smart guy.
  18. I could be wrong, since no one else has mentioned it..... but I think that Deolis Guerra is out of options. If he doesn't make the Twins bullpen, I believe he has to pass through waivers for the Twins to keep him and for him to start in Rochester.
  19. Gulp. Not even a year out of Tommy John when the season starts. So the twins still need 3 more starters. What? Correia counts? OK, then. 2 more starters, as i really can't see Pelfrey ready until a couple of months into the season. At least Ryan didn't sign him for 2 years! ............ and for what it is worth, the comments here still don't come up from the article links, except one.
  20. Two valuable MLB Pros for 1 Maybe? Yuk. The trading deadline is the time for any trade involving Morneau and Willingham. Their value will be the highest and the teams questing them will be ready to give up way more than an Olt. Plus, you never know. Both Willingham and Morneau could be better than ever, Plouffe could be the player we saw before he was hurt, the pitchers could have breakout years, Hicks could be up and killing it.... you just never know. Morneau isn't done yet, and Mauer isn't either. And..... just the opposite could be happening with the team, but not the two Twins proposed. I like waiting to consider trading both. Some team will be willing to make a trade like the Revere trade.
  21. all articles...... window xp, firefox and chrome. only one comment shows up on all articles accessed from the intros on the front page, from all the links. the links from the side bar all work and comments show up. comments show up if accessed from the forum page. only front page article links have a problem. it has worked a few times in the last week.... but then goes back to failing. a couple days, a couple of the articles worked, but other didn't. weird. sorry i can't be more specific, but i don't take notes on these things. good luck.
  22. Brandon could flat out pitch. If he can be signed to a minor league contract with tons of incentives, I would love it. Nothing to lose, and you just never know. And the twins always have Corriea for the next two years to rely on.
  23. Now that didn't seem too hard or too many years or too much money, eh Terry Ryan? It makes your Corriea signing look awful.
  24. Buffoonery, eh? Yup, Brian is far too creative for a Twins uniform I suspect. Besides that, he is a closer, and until it is proven he can't anymore, that is what he wants to do, and that is what he has said he is looking for.
