  1. Even for a yr he'd help you have to start somewhere fixing this rotation. Might cost a prospect but please do something!
  2. Vargas is on waivers it's reported on trade rumor. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ If they don't claim him something is really wrong. Good start for next yr.
  3. This game is a setup, the Twins can't help but win. Everybody will be betting their houses on the Mariners.
  4. Mauer has a long way to go for consideration in the HOF.
  5. Blanton, Correia, Guthrie and Saunders all fit our price range and would likely be better than what we have. McCarthy would be ok but seems hurt a lot. Marcum and Jackson are likely out of our price range. No Pavano and other 35+ types very rare they work out usually just wasting money. Baker I think has had his fill of the Twins medical team. I don't really see any middle infielders that would help. Two that could help the attitude would be Youkilis for 3b moving Plouffe to second and Hunter in right field. Of course that means Span + is traded for Shields or equal.
  6. Mike Redmond would be interesting. Not sure good but interesting.
  7. This team is close to 60 games under over the last 2 years so why would you want to make changes now? Aren't we kind of on a roll?
  8. There are several starting pitchers in the HOF without 200 Wins: Dizzy Dean, Sandy Koufax, Lefty Gomez, etc. I believe Sandy Koufax was the last starter to get into the HOF with less than 200 wins in his career. Yes I understand that but I think Koufax was a special case, 3 Cy Youngs and an MVP. Dizzy and Lefty were a long long time ago.
  9. I was in favor of signing him for a deal like he got. Reasoning it is just so hard to find a true ace, what have we had 1 in 20 years. But this is the chance you take they will never get the production back for all that money. 61 more wins to get 200 he's 33 so 15 a year for 4 yrs gets him to 38. Not going to happen, imo. I don't think you get into the HOF with less than 200 wins.
  10. He's very hittable at this point. I wish I could have seen him pitch in AAA to see what's so different. Perhaps Parker can put something together? Major league hitters instead on minor league hitters!!
  11. My guess is any coach would rather be in the Majors. The pay will be a lot better, the travel/ hotels better, meal money better and every other aspect would be better.
  12. I'd try the Mariners for a trade. They need people in the seats, they need hitting and Morneau is not only a local (within 2 hrs) guy but he can hit homeruns which fans love. The first baseman now is hitting under .200, not good. They also are one of the few teams that seems to have plenty of pitching. Makes some sense likely won't happen. I'd also call the Rays this winter see if they need a center fielder, Span, a local guy (Upton is a free agent) for some pitching in exchange. How about Span for Shields? This make believe GM stuff is so easy!
  13. The only way "depth" should be used here is for how far under water this group is. This is a sad bunch for a supposed major league team.
  14. The Twins front office has started to circle the wagons after the Pavano thing. PR talking points will be flying all over to cover their arses!
  15. Makes me wonder about Slowey and his wrist injury. He was never the same after he came back, how has Hardy been doing he was injured all the time, isn't that one of the reasons he had to go? Way way to many of these injury screw ups, imo.
  16. I'm not sure which is worse living in Iowa or being able to watch the Twins.
  17. Wasn't Terry Ryan going to fix this? Another great job by the front office. Same guys different chairs is all.
  18. Maybe if Carlos Silva was still around he'd be a fit.
  19. When will Pavano and or Walters come back? They need an open spot for them. Not sure what the point would be to bring Pavamo back, time to wish him luck and say goodbye.
  20. As a rule the Twins wait at least a week before placing them on the DL and then a couple more days before seeing a specialist. If I were cynical I'd say they do this to save a week of major league pay for the guy they bring up but that can't be the real reason.
  21. Who was the last infielder that came up thru the system that actually stuck and played quality baseball for several years? From the lat 90' to 2004 Rivas, Guzman, Koskie and Minty played together and were solid by all accounts. From that time nobody has had an extended amount of solid play other than Morneau. Doesn't that really say a lot about the drafting and scouting this team has?
  22. My question is what are the chances of Baker making any ML starts prior to around June 1 next year? Why would you tie up payroll and a 40 man spot on a guy you really don't know if he'll ever be the same? Isn't it more likely some team signs Baker to a make good contract in the spring after he has had time to throw and show what he has?
  23. How about Morneau to the Mariners, basically playing at home for him, we get Jason Vargas back. Both signed thru next year Vargas will likely get around 6 mill in arb so the money is a little off but Morneau should be considered the better player. We get an ok starter save 7-8 mill we can spend on another starter. I think Morneau would be happy going home to finish his career.
