With the amount of time the hot new toys are overpaid and then preform under expectations maybe that's an OKAY thing. How many of us would be okay with Bryce Harper on the roster with what he is going to be owed with the numbers he is putting up?

Especially considering on paper this team going into the offseason will be a good deal stronger than what was in place last season.

Holy hot take batman. This team is on pace to win more games than any Minnesota Twins team in 49 years. If that is the biggest botch job by a front office, you must be use to a lot of winning baseball. You want to fire the staff and front office? At least wait until the season is over to call incompetence. They are in 1st place with 42 games to play and on pace to win 98 games. I get some people want to hit the panic button, but good lord people.

I don't think anyone is running him out of town, but it would be nice to have that player who raked in the 1st half and earned an AS game start. Since he hit his high water mark BA of .341 on June 12, he's played in 52 games where the Twins have gone 26-26, his triple slash line is .242/.307/.383, good for an OPS of .690. Not to mention he's made 6 errors in 11 games in August, and the one yesterday was extremely costly. The Twins could really, really use him to turn it around for the home stretch.

They needed 9 outs and Harper had given up earned runs in 1 of his last 9 appearances. The notion and hindsight that everyone knew he was going to give up runs is so overblown.

Unless I missed something, you completely forgot Yordan Alvarez for the Astros, the guy is downright raking. I love Arraez, but compare the two. Arraez: 202 PA, .350/.421/.446 Alvarez: 197 PA, .355/.431/.733!!!

No but I don't think they will give up 6 ER in the 1st couple innings of every game either.

I'm going to try and not let the last 3 games dictate if they are melting down or not. Previous to that they had won 8/10 and the rotation was pitching just fine. Next 3 games will be telling.

I don't think it has anything to do with trusting the pen in any of these 3 games. He tried to let Berrios get out of his own mess, and he failed. It was 6-0 at that point. He let Perez pitch because it was the 3rd inning and 6-0 and a big series with the Indians started the next day. We needed Perez to give us more innings. Last night Gibson probably should have been pulled, but what...1 or 2 batters prior? It was the 5th inning in a 2 run game.

That would have been for 2015 right? Didn't they waste a year by calling him up in 2014, one they could have saved or am I off on that? If not that makes sense, but yeah completely on Kirilloff. If he was ripping the cover off the ball it would be a different story. Edit: You answered my question in above post about service time.

There were a large group of posters who ripped the front office a new one for burning Jorge's option in 2014, and I think I was probably one of them. There were people in 2017 who suggested DFA'ing him because he was struggling and they couldn't send him down. Yes, he turned out fine, but was it worth 20 combined plate appearances he got in the bigs in 2014 and 2015? It's extremely risky, especially for an offense who still has a ton of explosion even without Cruz and Buck in the lineup.

I get the excitement of someone new and fresh and highly regarded, but he's 21 hitting .269/.330/.391 in AA. It just seems like a wasted option, much like they did with Jorge in 2014 if they call him up right now.

I don't consider a collapse when a team playing .500 or slightly above it and the other team wins at .725 clip. Twins still on pace to win 98 games. I don't think anyone thought or believes this team is a 110 win team. The Tribe are 19-8 since the break and 35-14 since June 12th. That's a pace to win 117 games. The bats need to wake up before the 6th inning. They have scored 19 runs in the last 3 games, and 2 of them have come before the 6th inning. Yes, the starting pitching needs to be better, but early runs change games.

Today they were down 4 runs with 3 runs left to play and yesterday it was 8-0 when Berrios left the game. What exaclty do you want Rocco to do? He can't burn the backend of the pen and just hope the offense comes to life. You need to pick your battles...and I think Rocco did fine the way both the offense and defense played today.

Jose finished off the 5th strong and then struck 2 of the 3 batters out in the 6th, I don't have a problem with Rocco letting Berrios trying to finish off the inning, especially in a 5-0 game. Now pulling him after the balk and Acuna single....that's another story.

I had to look it up. Good God. In 40 games vs. our boys, 177 PA, 16 2B, 19 HR, 45 RBI, .392/.475/.869 with a cool OPS of 1.344.- 15 replies

Front Page: Twins Acquire RHP Sam Dyson from Giants

I like Romo as setup. Duffey has great stuff and I do really think he has the make up to be a shut down reliever, his problem is that damn control. Once he loses it, he really loses it. If he could learn to harness it just a little better I really think he could be something special.- 206 replies

They took 2/3 of the road and blew the last game in pretty remarkable fashion, it was much closer to a sweep than "barely" beating them. The season is 162 games long, if they lose the division by 1 game there will be ~60-70 losses they could look back on. Losses happen.

Also the offense seemingly already left for Target field mid game. In the last 7 innings the Twins had 2 hits, they both came in the 7th. The other 6 innings Marlin relievers faced the minimum batters.

Did he forget where he put his control? What part of intel is finding the strike zone? He walked 7 batters in 51 innings all season and then walked 2 in 5 batters. I get making every excuse why he did bad, but sometimes you just gotta chalk it up to he didn't have it and got beat. He was throwing as hard as he usually does.

Front Page: Twins Acquire RHP Sam Dyson from Giants
SwainZag replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is an interesting topic, because what do you do? You can't pay all young players a TON more, because only a small handful are worth it. You start taking away the "free" years and there are a lot of guys who don't get the chance to develop because they are forced on ML rosters or are gone. Not every prospect can cut thru the minors and onto a big league roster in 2-3 years. Baseball is an outlier sport because of varying stages of development time for so many players. It's obvious we are seeing a shift, as more and more veteran players are not seeing the 5-6-7+ years contracts into their 30's. Teams are getting smarter....payrolls aren't getting smaller though. Guys are still getting paid. It's interesting. I'm not sure what the solution is. I think they need to push back the deadline. Not enough teams are ready yet. Push it back 15-30 days.- 206 replies
