  1. If the plan is to plug Parmalee in at the RF position I would rather see Revere's range in center. Span would seemingly bring a bigger return tradewise and imo, Revere's stolen bases would make up for the loss of Span's OBP run wise.
  2. Seeing Morneau's eyes get big when he sees a hanger is one of my favorite things. I predict a big September if he's still here.
  3. I know that I've written my share of negative comments lately but I haven't seen a lot of name calling. I'm not optimistic right now but I always have hope.
  4. It seems that Bromberg does much better as a starter. Does he not have the stuff to stay in the rotation?
  5. Good deal, hope it lasts.
  6. I want to see how this offseason goes because we all know that TR is a very good baseball guy. I want to see this org. pick a direction either they find a way to trade assets for what they're looking for or they attempt to spend good money on marquee not Marquis pitching if they think this lineup can compete. Besides if the Twins were to replace they would probably have to hire some firm like colleges do for a coaching vacancy because they are probably not familiar with anyone outside of their own org. , only half joking on that.
  7. I understand not making a trade yesterday if the offers weren't there but I don't want to hear the same thing after this offseason. At the end of the day it's not about how much you tried to get something done. Terry Ryan has shown this year that he can still find a bargain, what he has to prove next is that he can still make a deal. I don't want to see a trade just for the sake of a trade but I would like to know that I have a GM/front office of a bad team that can take advantage of guys like Span,Perkins, and Willingham being at their peak value.
  8. Obviously starting pitching is the most glaring weakness for the org. The problem with starting pitching is that nobody wants to give it or the potential of it up in a trade. What makes it worse for the org. is that they've done a poor job of drafting and developing it and they don't spend money on it. I know that Terry Ryan has been successful with big trades-Knoblauch and Pierzynski, and smaller trades-getting guys like Lohse,Ortiz,Mayes and Bartlett and hopefully he can prove it again this coming off-season but what troubles me is that this has been one of the 3 worst teams in the league for the last year and a half and (correct me if I miss someone) Liriano's the only guy that's been traded away. Since the Twins like to re-arrange chairs much more than actually getting rid of anyone it seems that our only hope is that the art of the deal hasn't passed Terry Ryan by. This front office has a lot to prove this coming off-season. Here's to hope.
  9. If Ryan wasn't given what he thought was a fair offer for any Span/Perkins/Willingham etc I guess you can't blame him for not making a move. The problem to me is the thinking that they can just address the issues in the offseason. I'm not sure what the team has done recently to give anyone hope that this is what will happen. So the team is just 2or3 starting pitchers from contending? When have they ever spent money on starting pitching and maybe more importantly how much would they have to outspend legitimate contenders to get a big name pitcher? Saw a conversation on here the other day where people were already talking about what pitchers the team could get on 2or3 year contracts. That may get them to the point where they can compete for division titles again but they would still be a million miles away from being a world series contender imo. As much as I appreciate what TR has done in the past and he's proven with the last offseason that he can still find a bargain but maybe he's not the guy to make the big trade. I guess we'll find out this offseason.
  10. I'm not trying to derail this thread so ignore me if needed but does anyone else think that Lavelle and Joe C. are being a bit lazy? I usually burn through my 20 articles on the Strib especially with what the Wild have done this year so I check the local guys twitter accounts alot. If it was this close to the NBA or NHL trade deadline Zgoda and Russo would seemingly be on there 24hrs a day but with Lavelle and Joe C. you get in game stuff some BBQ joint tips and nothing else. I don't need every rumor justified but people have to be asking these two questions that maybe they have an inside idea of don't they?
  11. Thanks again. wish I would have waited to read all before responding .
  12. Thanks, I figured google but hadn't heard of baseballreference.
  13. Thanks, appreciate it.
  14. I may be in the minority here but I haven't heard of him. What position does he play, how old is he, and was he a draft pick?
  15. I like Benson a lot. Hopefully he can keep his head on straight and make it back up to stay someday. It would be nice to have a guy that has no problem running over a catcher to score the big run again. I've never seen him do it but I have no problem in assuming that he would .
  16. No word on Baxendale or Mazzilli yet?
  17. I'm not a stat guy by any means but I did do a seasonal comparison between the two not including Mauer's #s this year. Kirby's averages are BA-318, HR-17, Doubles-34, RBI-90 and Hits-192 Mauer's averages are BA-324. HR-10, Doubles-27, RBI-66 and Hits-137 I know these aren't per ab #s but you can also throw in Kirby's leadership, durability and two rings. I like Joe but (IMO) he's got a long way to go to be put in Kirby's league. jmo
  18. Can Nick Blackburn be fixed? Got a rubberband?
  19. Good point and kind of what I'm getting at also. The difference for me is that if they're going to get Mauer so many games away from catcher I'd like to see them get someone in that is capable of being an everyday catcher at this level. I don't dislike Doumit, I'd just rather have them concentrate on what (imo) is a bigger issue. If they can bring back Doumit in the backup to the backup catcher/dh/awful 1b-rf role for cheap I'm good with that.
  20. If they get a good offer anytime befroe the trade deadline the should jump on it imo. Liriano's biggest problem (even bigger than his mechanics) has always been his own head. It could take one bad inning, say an error, a walk and a bloop double to ruin the value he's built up with these last few starts.
