  1. I agree, tcarlic. That may be why he would make sense for us. He might take a 1 year deal and that could help Pinto slowly adjust to MLB and being the guy in 2015. I would like this as much as Salty.
  2. Peter Gammons says that Navarro is close to a deal with an undisclosed team. The Blue Jays and Twins are thought to be possible suitors. Navarro's stats last season: .300/.365/.492 with 13 home runs in 89 games. Do you hope it's the Twins? What would you think the contract should be if it is?
  3. Bono would be a nice get... Would they take Doumit for him? I'd give them a call. Heck, throw in a low C level prospect.
  4. Hatley would seem like a guy that could survive a season in the bullpen. There are several arms that appear to be capable of mop-up duties. I would like us to consider a guy that could start, or at the least, be a Pressly with the option of converting him back to a starter.
  5. prosportsdaily.com had an article today about some players that were left available for the draft. My favorite on their list was: Boone Whiting, rhp, Cardinals: Smallish at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Whiting is a fly-ball pitcher who lacks plane on his fastball and doesn’t overpower hitters. His competitiveness, command, athleticism and feel for three average pitches helps him miss bats, as he has a career 9.31 SO/9 IP ratio. Whiting’s fastball sits in the 88-92 mph range and touches 93, and he locates it well. His changeup earns some above-average grades and is his best pitch. He throws a slurvy slider as well, and all three come out of the same over-the-top high arm slot, giving him deception. Whiting was homer-prone in Triple-A, giving up 11 in 106 innings, and profiles as no more than a fifth starter, but he’s close to that ceiling now. In Prospect Handbook terms, he’s a 40/Low. I have said previously that I hope we give a shot to someone who can land in the rotation. If he shows promise, try to make room in the pen or try and work out a trade. If he seems decent and there is room (I hope not) he could potentially start in the rotation. If he is terrible, offer him back. We wouldn't be out much money. 6. Good insight. I hadn't realized that he was originally a 3rd baseman. Have to remember, there may be more players in this trade.
  7. I hope we take a pure starter. I haven't seen any lists yet. I know these don't just float around on the Rule 5, but if someone left exposed a Low A starter with good peripherals I'd love for us to take a stab at him. If spring training comes and he is super over matched, send him back or try and work out a trade. The price is right to give it a try.
  8. I agree, I would imagine more is coming Detroit's way on this. Does Detroit have someone to play 3rd? We got to assume that Cabrera will move back to first, correct?
  9. There could be more players involved, but wow, that came out of nowhere.
  10. So, correct me if I'm wrong, we could protect Kepler and Polanco on the AAA 40 man. Is that not what Seth said earlier? I don't see how Darnell would not get picked up so I'd add him. I want to see him make a couple starts for the Twins before he is dangled infront of some other team. Also, I would add most of the guys on that list if I could find/make room. Most (the prospects) seem to possess some tools that other organizations might find desirable. We will surely leave room open to draft a starter. Do we draft 4th?
  11. 3 years at 13/year. Get it done.
  12. I understand that much occurs at winter meetings. I get that. I accept it. What I don't get or accept is when players like Arroyo and Nolasco have offers on the table and it is report that the Twins aren't one. Both players sound interested in us. I just feel like we wait for everyone else to act first so we can wait and see where the cheap buys are at. We are rich but we are waiting for all the quality meat to be bought, and then choose from the spoiled that goes on clearance.... Gross. Is it against the rules to approach Arroyos' agent and say, "what will it take to sign your client, today?" "We are looking for 3 years and 12.5 per year." "Ok. We will pay that. See my accountant and lawyer on the way out to finish up the little details. Now, if you would excuse me, I need to let Chance know I'm not screwing around, and I actually signed someone!"
  13. Does that bother anyone else; us going after guys hard but a week later and still no rumored offers? I had hopes that they were ready to wow some guys and get them to sign early, but with each passing day I become a little more sceptical.
  14. Was it Shane that said he would be our opening day starter? I think his odds just increased...
  15. I honestly don't see the issue with Punto as a starter. He has above average defense at 3 infield locations and he isn't suck a black hole on offense as people think. He should never have been a 1 or 2 hole hitter but a guy with a career .248 is from the worst this team can do. If he would have been paid what he should have been paid people would have been glad to have him. I would let him start for my team as a SS in the 9 hole.
  16. Buxton someday?
  17. Personally, I'm a big fan of Punto. He wins everywhere he goes. He makes great plays in the field and solidifies a defense. I'm not upset that he signed elsewhere, but I would have liked him as a utility infielder. He isn't much worse with a bat than what we have anyway. I just posted this for fun.
  18. I didn't know Hoey lost his fastball? Or are you saying Hoey found Blackburn's fastball? If that is the case, awesome!
  19. Thanks for talking me off the ledge, Winston.
  20. Punto will be signing with the A's. There went the Twins hope of a utility infielder...
  21. I agree with you Thrylos. If we didn't have a Willingham/Doumit liability to hide at the DH it would be worth a thought to bring him in as a DH/pinch hit bat. Much like Thome, much of what he got a hold of was driven a long way.
  22. That is what I was thinking when I was reading about him!
  23. I was taking a trip down memory lane and came across Randy Ruiz. What happened there? He had great numbers in the minors and yet didn't debut with the Twins until 2008 (at 30). We released him that off-season and he signed with Toronto. In 2009 he played in 33 games for the Blue Jays and had a line of: 313/385/635/1.019 while hitting 10 home runs. In 2010, Ruiz had a strong spring training and was kept on the 25 man roster but he didn't do so well in limited action. In 13 games he had 6 hits in 40 at bats (1 homer). After not see much playing time, Ruiz asked for his release in May to sign a bigger contract with the Tohoku Rakuten Eagles in Japan. In 2012, he came back to the states on a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played in 49 games for their AAA club, Reno. He launched 14 home runs and sported a 331/395/624/1.019 line. Last season, after a short stint in the Mexican League, he signed a minor league deal with the New York Yankees and played for their AAA affiliate, Scranton. he batted 274/316/513/829 with 17 home runs. You can see that he doesn't like to walk much with his near 3:1 k:BB rate in the minors and more than 4:1 rate in the majors. In his small major league sample size Ruiz walked 6.7% and struck out 28.2% of the time. In the minors, 8.7% BB and 23.9% K. The Yankees released Randy on November 5th.
  24. Ha. One like for your comment, sir!
