  1. I watched the Rochester game, Seth. I would say that Hicks had one of the better games I have seen him have. On his catch, he was going all out towards his right and the wall. As he approached the warning track he dove and when stretched out with his glove arm extended made the catch. One of the best catches I have seen him make. Josmil Pinto had a good game defensively, throwing a runner out at first after a pitch and playing a tough bunt very well. But like you, Brock Peterson was my Player of the Game. Another player who took very good at bats was Rosario, who had good at bats against a crafty lefty (Albers) with one shot right at the first baseman and I think another solid single. Meyer has several hard hit balls in the first couple innings, including Hicks' catch. As for control, or lack thereof, he was all over the place.
  2. I recall that Matt LeCroy hit a bunch of home runs at Fort Myers. Does he have the most of any Twins organization player? If the most is in the high 20's, seems like Walker should have a shot at setting a new record.
  3. After moving around a lot and sitting a lot in Minnesota, it is great seeing Herrmann playing everyday and playing very well. Really want to see him spend the entire season in Rochester, catching and/or playing a corner outfield spot. Then bring him up in September with a good chance of his being a valuable Twin for many years.
  4. If they do accumulate a couple hundred thousand after the Top 10 are signed, what high school kids did they draft who would be considered big catches if signed?
  5. If my math is correct, after the completion of today's make-up game and the regularly scheduled game in New Britain, Eddie Rosario will be eligible to play tomorrow. Is that correct?
  6. Seth, It appears that the following are all gone: Jose Abreu, Damion Defrank, Miguel Gonzalez, Adonis Pacheco, Leonel Zazueta, Reyson Zoquiel, Chris Mazza, C.J. Ziegler and Harold Garcia? If my memory is correct, the Twins don't send Aussies to the DSL. Do you have any idea of where Jack Barrie will be this summer? Thanks Seth, the fun baseball begins on Thursday.
  7. I see the Rochester roster is also posted. Does anyone know what happened to Michael Tonkin because he isn't listed on the Red Wings roster?
  8. No CMath, I think Darnell is safe in Rochester. But good ole Pat Dean is likely headed back to New England. But there does appear to be a logjam of pitchers at AAA.
  9. I read in today's STrib that Dakota Watts has been released. With opening day about ten days away for minor league teams, I suspect there were/soon will be more players released. Does anyone know if this has already happened? Thanks!
  10. Sleep well A.J. And say hi to Paul and your Mom if they are still there.
  11. Hey Seth, Listened to this Thursday morning...really appreciated it. Thanks. By the way, as an old Badger...was curious where Jeremy is in Wisconsin?
  12. Thanks Seth, normally the media guide mistakes aren't about any of their better prospects. Would be curious to the response you would get from some of the people related to the Twins?
  13. Have a roster question Seth. Picked up my copy of the Media Guide this morning. As always, spent some time reading the minor league section. I do that especially to see who is gone and who some of the new 17 year olds are down in the DSL. My question is that no matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find Jose Berrios anywhere in the guide. Not in the back with the organizational players. Not up front with the spring training invites. I assume he is still in the organization and this is just one of the couple mistakes they make every year. Will appreciate your confirmation that he is still around so that I can stop taking double doses of my blood pressure medicine. Thanks Seth!
  14. Seth, any idea where Adrian Salcedo will begin 2014. Will it be New Britain? Also, any word on whether or not he will be back starting after being in the bullpen his first year back from surgery?
  15. Mr. Crikket will know more about this, however, I suspect that the Twins may have changed their position on moving young players to low A ball since moving to Cedar Rapids as I understand that the Kernels have 'family hosts' for all of their players. Is that correct Jim? If so, that is different than Beloit where I understand there were only a few. Thus, they may not have problems with sending an 18 year old to the Midwest League. With that said, I see them keeping Thorpe in extended spring training for a month, then sending him straight to Cedar Rapids. He hasn't had much time off this winter as he was pitching every weekend for Melbourne until three or four weeks ago. That would give him an extra month before getting into competitive games every fifth or sixth day. Based on the type of hitters he successfully faced all winter, there is no reason to send him to ETon. Rather an argument could be made that he is prepared to go straight to Hi-A ball, although I agree that isn't likely.
  16. Thorpe was one of the most dominant pitchers in the Aussie League this winter. Lineups he faced included mostly High A ball players with some AA, AAA and a few big leaguers mixed in. His performance there tells me he will likely see Cedar Rapids this spring/summer.
  17. Good morning Seth from the sunny Californian desert...where it has been in the low 80's for the past week. And thanks for the great article. In this game which has become so much about statistics and numbers, we often forget there is much more in putting a team together. Chemisty and relationships often are the reason one team wins and another doesn't. When reading Parker's story about Willingham, I couldn't get his relationship with Dozier out of my mind. Now learning about the influence Pelfrey will have on the development of Meyer and Gibson is just another example of putting the right parts together...both on and off the field. Thanks again Seth, loved what I just read.
  18. Like your lineup, however, expect that Nate Hansen will be somewhere in the lineup. My guess for the opening day starter will be Pat Dean, who I expect will be the odd man out for the Red Wings starting five! Also good chance it could be Sean Gilmartin.
  19. Great read, thanks Jim. In addition to creating some interesting day dreaming, liked that you have Rosario back in left field.
  20. Thanks Seth. After seeing how this pipeline is developing, have taken a look at their young pitchers several times.
  21. Wonderful read Nick. And what a realistic way of looking at the coming spring. As you stated, three of the in house group are out of options (Deduno, Diamond and Worley...I believe Hendiks has one more option). If they do sign Pelfrey or someone else, I expect one of these three will be dealt in advance to open a spot on the 40-man roster. If not, they will let them battle it out for two spots in spring then trade one if one isn't on the DL. But you hit it square on the head, they will have wonderful depth heading into spring training. And with Hendriks, Gibson, Meyer, May, Albers and Johnson all at Rochester, the Red Wings should have a legitimate chance to have a very good season. And I really like the prospects of having Gibson in Rochester ready to move up when a starter goes down.
  22. Are you sure about Fryer? I am not certain of this rule, however, Fryer was added in September which seems different to me.
  23. They need to make one move to add both Nolasco and Hughes. If they want to participate in the Rule 5 draft, that goes up to two. Look for them to do nothing with Fryer until they sign a catcher. When/if they do, Fryer will be outrighted to Rochester. The next 72 hours should be interesting, although I won't be surprised if they take a pass on this year's Rule 5 draft.
  24. Great topic Seth, My first choice will be Thorpe, who I believe will begin in EST before joining Cedar Rapids in late April/May 1. There is a small chance he moves up to Fort Myers for the last month of the season. Yes, he will be only 18 years old...but he just turned 18 last week and will be pitching to A+, AA and some AAA guys all winter down under. My second pitcher is D. J. Baxendale, who has a chance to become what he was at A+ last year at AA this summer. If he does, a late season promotion to AAA could be in the cards. My third pitcher is Matt Summers. Look for the Twins to return Matt to the bullpen where he will be lights out with a season as good as any of the top bullpen prospects in the organization. As for position players, my leading candidate will be Jorge Polanco. Don't know if he really qualifies as the last two years were very good. Anyway, I expect him to have another bigger year at Fort Myers in 2014. I look for a big year also from middle infielder Aderlin Mejia, who was awfully good at Fort Myers in 2013. Look for him to continue hitting for a high average as he moves from the Miracle to New Britain. My final player to have a break-out year is Minnetonka's own A. J. Pettersen. After battling through his wrist injury last year, A.J. will report to spring training healthy and ready to prove he has a future with the Twins. Look for him to return to New Britain as he moves up the ladder as a valuable utility player.
  25. Thanks Seth. Since first seeing your reference to the correction, I have been using Jorge Felix in all my comments over at TT. Also, giving you credit for clarifying our collective mistake. Hopefully, in time we will all get it correct!
