Or you could make use of WPA, which would completely blow the usage of the QS out of the water. Something like this. http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/good_starts_bad_starts_wpa_style/
As has already been stated, QS is acceptable at the macro level, either team as a whole, or player career. But for a single season player? Yuck, stay away, for every reason Brock as been continually stating.
Just like the Capps contract didn't hamper them this past offseason, when they gave him way too much money way too early in free agency. Nope, it's inconceivable that this contract could potentially hamper them in ANY way this year or next. No chance whatsoever. None. Zip.
We were told just this past season they didn't have any additional money to improve the team when even a few million could have improved the bullpen. Ultimately that $5 million next year could hurt the team.
My favorite Manship moment was when he was drafted, I said something to the effect of "they're going to end up with the better of the Notre Dame pitchers." Finest moment it was not.
Nevermind that Safeco Field is absolutely brutal to right-handed pull hitters, like Beltre. Or that he was just 30 when he left Seattle. Or that Figgins is 35. Or that Figgins has been putting up Buteraesque production.
