  1. The reputation of the team, declining attendance, and the downward spiral of payroll. Fielding a better team and winning more games is sorely needed. To the "hamstringing" portion of your comment, does that ground really need covering again? Have you looked at the payroll obligations in the future?
  2. I'll chalk this one up to "agent dramatically overplayed his hand and got caught with limited suitors." If he had Correia's agent he could have signed for 3 years and $36 million at the start of December.
  3. You optimists and your silly half-full glasses. .223, that's as high as I'll go!
  4. We just need to find another front office that, for reasons that cannot possibly be comprehended, treats the position like a complete after-thought.
  5. If I had to do it without looking it up, I'd say something like a .670 OPS. '87 also was, if I recall correctly, one of (if not the worst) offensive seasons of his career.
  6. Not only "can" he hit like **** at the bottom of the order, he most likely will. Yay!
  7. Big smiles raise morale.
  8. They would have offered him a contract, a more than competitive one at that, but he just hates Minnesota and preemptively rejected it before it even had the chance to see the light of day.

  10. "At that age" Gagne OPS'd better than a league average shortstop twice already. Florimon can only fantasize about hitting as well as Gagne did.
  11. At least they accomplished what they set out to do at the position, get more "athletic." That has to count for something.
  12. I liked Eddie, but that's just ridiculous.
  13. Keeping Drew off the field is a good enough reason for me.
  14. Other than Saunders or Capps, who else could they be looking at right now?
  15. Number of people that have claimed free agency is how to win a World Series: 0
  16. Staving off apathy, and the ensuing downward spiral of income and budget levels, should be a big concern. If you wait around too long to make improvements you may find the budget being unsuitable for "overpaying then."
  17. As I noted in another thread, that doesn't make any sense. Super-2 has absolutely nothing to do with years of control.
  18. This thread could use a serious dose of Joe Saunders news, good, bad, or otherwise.
  19. As a thin, I find this line of discussion highly prejudicial.
  20. Somewhere Ron Gardenhire mumbles to himself, "Platoon? Isn't that a movie?"
  21. And Butera, but every team needs five catchers on their 40-man.
  22. You mean jumping the gun on signing a mediocre pitcher early in free agency only to have the contract given to them end up being a ridiculous overpay? 2012 Capps = 2013 Correia *sadface* (I know that's not what you're talking about, but I felt like making that comparison anyway)
  23. Ryan's comments concerning Correia have at least hinted to a bit of buyer's remorse. Whether that perceived remorse means anything moving forward or not, well, I doubt anything actually changes.
  24. I think they realize that they screwed the pooch with Correia and aren't looking to conduct a repeat performance.
