  1. I guess the old adage holds true - winning cures everything.
  2. Given the performances from Correia so far, one can make the case that he was indeed a "legit FA" signing. And I recall quite a few people in these forums advocating not just punting 2013 but 2014 as well. Just sayin'...
  3. It's fascinating how less than a month of regular season play has changed both short-term and long-term expectations. Nobody realistically expects the Twins to make the playoffs this year, but .500 is now looking like a goal that could be within reach. The timeframe for contention has also shortened from 2015-16 to 2014-15. Perhaps the Twins front office is not as clueless as many were suggesting this off-season? In reference to Hicks getting his feet wet in the majors this year, the cynic in me can't help but observe that it's not just his feet that are wet, but his whole body - diving into the deep end of the pool, where the water is over your head, will do that to you.
  4. Boy, that Liriano trade last year is looking better all the time.
  5. My guess is Gardy is thinking "get the one win now" instead of saving Burton/Perkins in case they might be needed tonight.
  6. Lesson to be learned: If your starter is pitching effectively and has a low pitch count, you leave him in - you don't pull him just so the bullpen can get some innings.
  7. I have to question this - you have a starter tonight (Pelfrey) who has only pitched 12+ innings over 3 starts - you might need the bullpen, a lot of it, tonight.
  8. Is it healthy/wise for a reliever to pitch/warm-up in both games of a split doubleheader? I honestly don't know, but they may want to avoid the bullpen just for that.
  9. Wow, KC is making the pre-season pundits looks foolish. I'm sure we'll see him in the 8th.
  10. Every sport (and every aspect of life, for that matter) has unwritten rules. If something needs to be added to address safety concerns, that's one thing, but absent from that we shouldn't take away players abilities to police themselves.
  11. We'll pack it up for you so you can take it back with you.
  12. Do you think he will sign for $5M? I have my doubts - if he is willing to sign for that, he won't fall to us.
  13. I think his plate discipline has definitely improved, but it hasn't translated into success - yet. The next few weeks will be interesting. Now that he's not hacking at stuff in the dirt, pitchers will start changing there approach. We'll see if Hicks is able to adjust to their adjustments.
  14. Interesting to read the account of the game on the Palm Beach website. Their take is that the ball just got away from Creath, and after the homer Sano was taunting the dugout and was ejected accordingly. No quote from anybody official after the game about the incident. History is always in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
  15. It's been a good half-week for Kyle since I opened this adopt-a-prospect thread. Still sharing time with Koch behind the plate, Kyle has made his opportunities count. On Thursday Kyle went 2 for 5, including a 2-RBI double in the 3rd that helped Fort Myers to a 11-8 win over St. Lucie. On Sunday Kyle also excelled, although this time in a losing cause, going 2 for 3 with a 2-run homer in the fourth that tied the game. In both games, he threw out a runner stealing, and he is currently leading the Miracle with a 1.214 OPS (.433/.514/.700). Keep it up, Kyle!
  16. I don't understand their start either, but I'm enjoying watching them. My local cable system carries their regional sports channel, and it's been a pleasant surprise.
  17. What you call jinx...I call prophecy.
  18. Yes, but when the Twins play that cloth is blue with the word "Minnesota" on the front.
  19. If we have four solid starters, a decent bullpen, and a lineup that can score runs, does that make us...contenders?
  20. Don't look now, folks, but we're on the verge of a 4-game winning streak.
  21. I know, and I agree it was a good at-bat, which the "adult" in me can appreciate. That being said, the "little kid" in me was still hoping for a hit. Walks just aren't very exciting for the average fan.
  22. I know that Mauer's job is to get on base, by whatever means, and setting the table for Willingham/Morneau is no small thing, but darn, I sure would have liked a hit there.
  23. We've found the secret ingredient for Hicks to hit - it has to be late in the game with the tieing/winning run in scoring position.
