  1. Remember when being compared with Adam Dunn would have been considered a good thing?
  2. Subtitle: "How to Succeed in Baseball Without Really Trying"
  3. It must be somebody's birthday - that was a gift.
  4. That's it. No seconds on dessert for Hicks tonight!
  5. He earned a victory today - this loss (if it is) is on the bats.
  6. Boy, if you were Worley, you'd have to be thinking, "What do I have to do to win a game?"
  7. Boy, Jim Thome would feel good at the plate right about now...
  8. I'm not actually watching, just following it on gameday, but it looks like Worley has had a solid start. Now if only those bats could get working.
  9. OT - looks like LA left Minneapolis just in time; their bats have now woken up. They've tagged Porcello for 9 in the bottom of the 1st against Detroit, including a grand slam by Trout.
  10. I can't speak for what reception he had in Los Angeles, but I saw how the crowd at Target Field responded to him when he came back here - I was at a couple of those games. He was greeted just fine, all that you could reasonably expect, and more.
  11. I'm not sure I do either, and it does seem this thread has detoured from it's original intended destination, to talk about Sano. Yes, I understand that Plouffe is relevant to the discussion as he currently plays the position that Sano is ostensibly being groomed to take, and that Plouffe's ability, both current and potential, factor into whether Sano makes a position change or not. Still, looking over the past couple of pages, the discussion seems to be virtually all about Plouffe with little about Sano.
  12. Isn't it a shame when good threads go bad?
  13. A. No, but something else could just have easily happened with somebody else. Stuff happens all the time. B. Yes. That's the point of this thread. It was stated up front that this was based on a small sample size. If you're going to make the argument that long-term the deal will be a good one, that same argument can be made about anybody we talk about here. And, I will admit, I'm probably soured a little bit because I had Greinke on my fantasy team (along with Jered Weaver) and thus I am now in last place pitching wise.
  14. Don't forget those who wanted to leverage the future and sign Greinke. That worked out well for Los Angeles.
  15. Fire Ryan! Fire Gardenhire! Fire Vavra (just because...)!
  16. Kyle Knudson Bats: Right Throws: Right Heights: 6’3” Weight: 210lb Born: 9/12/1987 in Fayetteville, NC (age 25) School: University of Minnesota Acquired in the 9th Round of the 2010 entry draft Kyle is predominantly a catcher, although he has played a handful of games in the infield. After being drafted in 2010 Kyle was in Elizabethton that year, sharing plate duty with Jhonatan Arias and Buddy Monroe, batting .261/.309/.344. The next year (2011) was spent in Beloit where he shared back-up duty with Arias behind Tobias Stretch, putting up a slash line of .226/.268/.278. In 2012 he started again in Beloit but was moved up mid-year to Fort Myers and showed a more prominent role, sharing catching duties with Josmil Pinto and Dan Rohlfing. He offensive production also improved to .252/.360/.321, his best numbers in his professional career. Kyle has started 2013 in Fort Myers, sharing time with Matt Koch, and is off to the best start of his career (.409/.480/.591). His fielding has been a question mark recently. In 2010 and 2011 he put up average numbers, but in 2012 his caught stealing pct dropped to 24% and he allowed 13 passed balls in 63 games. In 2013 so far runners have stolen successfully 6 out of 7 times. While he is not on most peoples’ prospect lists and probably does not project to have more than a minor league career, there is always hope that he will be a late-bloomer, proving the pundits wrong. Go Kyle!
  17. I'm having a hard time understanding this desire on the part of some to keep swapping replacement players in and out of the 25- and 40-man rosters. Is it the old adage that if you throw enough jello against the wall, maybe some will stick? People who are on waivers are there for a reason - you're not going to find quality talent that can make a noticeable difference. If you have a particular area where you are weak and the person can help in that specific area, maybe it makes sense. But just swapping players in and out and hoping something good happens seems senseless to me. I guess I'm just not convinced that Borbon is a significant enough upgrade to bother with.
  18. But that's the beauty of America - anybody can pass an unqualified judgment on any topic at any time. And which judgment is qualified and which is unqualified is not always easily discerned. Many so-called experts, even in these forums, are in reality self-appointed, whose judgments are in actuality no more qualified than the "unqualified" ones. For myself I have no illusions - I am completely unqualified to offer my opinions on many of these issues. But I'm not going away!
  19. I remember going through active rosters last year mid-year, as I was curious how many teams (other than the Twins) had 13 pitchers and 3 catchers. None but us had 3 catchers, and only a small few had 13 pitchers. But everybody had at least 12 pitchers. I think that boat has sailed for good.
  20. I'll take Kyle Knudson. No relation, but we do share the same last name, so...
  21. This thread seems to emphasize the same divides/debates that exemplify all our discussions, in that there are two basic mindsets being espoused. Position A: Correia has looked better than expected...let's celebrate a little. Position B: Correia has looked better than expected...but it won't last. Maybe both can be true?
  22. With the exception of that play in left in the 7th. Still, he can go to bed happy and be satisfied with the debut.
  23. C'mon, nobody who posts in these forums would be that petty, would they?
