  1. Good points all around. Of course, with these 2, you also have to read the tea leaves. Has the word come down to start the "Hicks in temporary out-of-favor" mode? The disconnects to logic are usually highly correlative with today's party line- our own "Winston Smith' knows a lot about how that plays out.
  2. Possibly. But I think Disco Dan spelled it out exactly right. This slump is so epically bad, there is real danger of full-fetal-position long-term damage if some tweaking isn't done here to change the situation, and possibly short-term, the environment.
  3. What part of your research tells you this?
  4. Yup. If you put Mastro on the 60 day DL, that gives him plenty of time to heal, creates a 40-man spot and gives you a real everyday option should Hicks need to be moved down.
  5. Not to sweat it, your post struck the statistical irony meter at "11" (especially when compared to Riverbrian, whose recent attempt only hit "7":jump:). Puck gets attacked so often, he has sharpened his survival skills to such a degree that at times, even his issue-to-issue allies become accidental fair game.
  6. Thanks and shout out to both DC and SD(JC)! Good background info about a guy I have decided to get on board with and see how it plays out. I too, as a fellow lefty, like to see those LHPs that defy the odds and break the mold.
  7. Has the MLB master-scheduler been fired yet, or at least had a reprimand placed in his file? I get that you have to annually rotate who plays against whom, where, in early April, but there has to be a way to schedule the northern teams so that they are playing more frequent common opponents rather than the "one time through" types- to help make the make-up options more amenable.
  8. Fully agree, I've said it before, the Twins have rostered 4 UTIL M-infielders, 3 of whom are on a long-term tryout for one spot opening up when the next wave comes in to take the starting jobs.
  9. CF is an up-the-middle priority. They could have done better in the MI, too!
  10. +1 Good article find. There are obviously GMs out there with a lot more energy at digging and a higher sense of urgency at improving the W-L bottom line. For all the problems this team has with mediocre to below replacement players abounding, protecting your existing 40-man makeup should be your lowest priority. Rather, shaking guys up about their too-cushy job security and giving opportunities to comparable replacements seems like a priority for a team coming off of 195 losses in a new stadium.
  11. This (sorry, had to do it;)). The key phrase in your post is that you have a MLB-ready body- who has actually been a regular starter and played a ton on a team with expectations for competing for titles. The Twins corner OF defense is mediocre to downright awful, he would help make it less embarrassing, and help to save some pitchers' arms in the short-term until Hicks makes the necessary adjustments. Can we seriously complain about an injection of a Revere slash line versus the current epically record-setting futility?
  12. It's fun to agree with you birdwatcher- and it's fun to track these phenoms on a daily basis. A special hats off to the manager down in Ft Myers, the "Minty Fresh", "Eye Chart" man, Doug Mientkiewicz. This appears to be a hire that the Twins FO got right. He went to high school with A-Rod, so he is aware of what it's like to be a superstar in the making, coupled with Dougie-Fresh's fundamentally-sound approach to the game, he might be one to watch for- his own star may also be on the rise.
  13. Baseball Reference kept ST stats and graded out the average level of competitin faced during the Spring. Those stats appear to be gone now, but I seem to remember that Hicks's level of pitching competition was in the "8s" on a scale meaning "9" was major league experienced. So it does suggest that this is more of a "adjusting to the pressure" thing than an inability to "adjust to the Major League pitcher" thing. He has struggled initially at each level of promotion, it's to be expected that he will have his struggles, especially since he's jumped TWO levels.
  14. Career K/BB ratio is terrific! It's about 4.60! I asked Seth for info on what he throws and at what velocity- perhaps you might know some more? As he's relatively unheralded- pfft ..... off the radar, and you and I are about the only people that talk about him- I'm guessing that his stuff is the key to how far he can go.
  15. This. Why this constant angst about the "torment" in having to replace replacement- or below-replacement-level players?
  16. Asbury, as usual, you are inspirational for inspiring future Twins marketing genius: Imagine this Target Field theme song for each and every base on balls for the season duration, yum!: (If you can find an avatar for Kayla Michelle, it would be a welcome occasional respite from crabby gymnast )
  17. OK then, lets just continue on and make history with the .045 and 45% K guy, then.
  18. Uhh, no? The issues have converged. The Twins willingly started the year without one player on the roster who has proven he can play CF full-time. The hemming and hawing on what to do about a guy possibly trying to play through a stress fracture further illustrates a Twins FO more full of wishes than a solid master plan for the 2013 season.
  19. Hence the concept and meme of "dangerously thin" in CF.
  20. Correction- In Gardy-speak, that's a SHOE!
  21. BEST LINE OF THE DAY NOMINEE: It "lingered", in Terry Ryan's word (makes me worry the implication is "malingered", too) Hey. Shut up already about "Ma Linger" Ryan- you're clearly not qualified to talk about doctorin' and trainin' and stuff.
  22. Nothing is solved, the problem wasn't even properly envisioned originally. Dangerously thin? Yes, given the complete lack of legitimate and proven full-time CF alternatives, the Twins apparently decided in December that Hicks was all they were going with- full-time. The Twins can keep having Hicks as their CF- and he can continue on his record-setting pace of Ks and micro-BA-futility- and risk the consequences- to the both the team and to Hicks- and they will be dangerously thin in CF- via performance issues and lack of viable alternatives.
  23. Seth- Brett Lee continues to impress, now as a Starter. Is it soon time to upgrade his prospect status? Any idea how the Twins plan to use him?... and what does his promotion timetable looks like? For the record, he might be a little old for this group at age 22, but his control and power are impeccable thus far in his career, he's now walked only 12 in 51+ innings and struck out 55! What's he throwing? (Lots of dead weight SPs in the upper-tier minor league teams)
  24. Not according to DicknBert and Whatshername- the mouthpieces and the potted plant practically had Mastro facing amputation since April 1. Seriously, if this is even partially true, the Twins have been dangerously thin in CF for quite some time, especially in light of the starting rookie CF who is threatening to set all-time records in futility. Poor foresight all the way around. Now let's see if Gardy's magic "Walking Shoe" can get Mastro back to 100% by May 1.
  25. In through the nose, my friend, the poster and allies that you addressed have been doing this "laughable" shtick since, well, the 70s (See no Evil, Hear no Evil, yadda, yadda...you guys all think TR and Gardy are Evil....and...and...you guys are all just haters!...not "real fans"!.... and....where's your medical license, anyway?....yadda, yadda)
