  1. It appears Gardy has jiggled this lineup a few times (last Thursday, yesterday, for example) on the road trip with the specific intent of manufacturing a win that Gardy could put his signature upon. In answer to your question about future-building, for Gardy, the future is now!
  2. Hear, here! There can't be many clubs left in baseball that adhere to such archaic thinking about prioritizations. Though the baseball draft isn't like football or basketball, there would still be yet more brewing of discontent among the Twin fanbase paying public should the FO choose to take such a foolhardy path with a very, very valuable #4 pick. There are FA options for proven catchers....why?? why?? why??
  3. Much better lineup for the Brewers tonight. Braun, Ramirez, Lucroy, Weeks. Gardy chooses to let it ride, same lineup featuring Doumit in RF so Diamond needs to get back to his high GB% game tonight- his FB% has jumped sharply of late. As far as the offense, the Twins hitters have a tendency to make unknown, first-seen, rookies look good the first time they face them.
  4. .....and just not acceptable for a First Baseman. To reiterate, his SLG is 24th among all First Basemen, and his OPS at .749 is 21st. The list is literally littered with cheaper and better acquisition targets- why would a desperate GM take a chance on an expensive option with a MIer-like batting line, + concussion issues, over multiple numbers of 1B options for healthy, proven sluggers?
  5. I'm skeptical, as well. Especially when the 2nd Baseman with the .197 BA and .238 OBP and his 45 foot single yesterday, is back in, high up in the batting order once again tonight, batting Second? Why? Gardy is apparently reasserting his old stubborn self, let's see if he also permanently reinstates the 3 catcher look- works great if you're the Braves, here, not to much.
  6. 6 with the Astros....And the Brewers, Marlins, Mets and Phillies. These remaining block of games against weak competition can skew the Twins W-L record towards giving some folks false hope.
  7. Please show where every single one of the organization's ills has been blamed on Butera. That huff-and-puff hyperbolic-strawman just won't fly. Butera isn't the blame for anything on-field- except for his own talent limitations as a player. His presence on the Twins roster is merely but one more symptom of the overall sclerotic Twins philosophy that has left them openly mocking statistically significant demonstrable baseball sabre-outcomes- seemingly oblivious to their own actual dreadful outcomes by following their own approach. And it resultantly has left the club mired down with the Astros and Royals of the baseball world, scrambling with incremental and inexpensive stabs at becoming a power team, but in reality, riding on a wave of "hope" that the six-year plan for its decent prospects will somehow come to fruition before the decade is out- "hope"fully while there still are some willing ticket buyers left. The Twins are seemingly light-years behind the current cutting-edge thinkers, leaders, movers and shakers in the League- and they can no longer go back in time and credibly fall back on the tired old excuses about payroll, mid-sized media market revenues and sub-standard stadium. The latest scoop from John claiming that the Twins are interested in a HS-Drew Butera-floor type for the extraordinarily valuable #4 pick is just the latest example of their calcified hard-headedness in the face of new realities. The jig is up- time for fresh faces and a 21st Century approach, already.
  8. Rochester is, and always has been a disaster. Any chance that Las Vegas is still available, possibly for purchase, and they could move the franchise to Sioux Falls, or especially, St Paul?
  9. The DP in the first inning was a line drive screamer to SS with no outs and the bases loaded- and then a poor base-running effort by the runner at Second Base too far off the bag to get two. Why do I think that if Braun and one of the other injured Brewers had been in the lineup today that Corriea may very well have not survived the first inning? The 2 Home Runs that Gomez hit, especially the first one, were positively savage and conceivably nightmare-inducing for the pitcher that threw them. Credit to Correia for battling through it today, I still have grave doubts that he will end up hitting his career averages before all is said and done. Also, as I've stated elsewhere, KC dodging the Tigers this weekend was a very solid career move for him.
  10. Well, Gardy reinstalled the battling 2nd Baseman with the .197 BA and .500 OPS back in the lineup in the 2-hole today.. Apparently, the .867 OPS in that spot was the main cause of the losing streak. Now, if Gardy can just get his "real" 3rd catcher back off the DL and onto the 25-man so that Doumit can play more RF, all will be well in Gardy-World.
  11. I think putting "talent" in quotes would be appropriate punctuation at this point. I say this as a fellow puzzled observer of a team that apparently has been going public with the notion that it's an intriguiing notion and worth gambling the #4 overall pick in the draft next month on a HS catcher that shows potential "talent" to be, in the worst-case scenario, a "Drew Butera-floor" prospect.
  12. Justin Morneau is currently sitting precariously just a tick above the slugger Mendoza line, ie, a .400 mark in SLG. To put this in career perspective, in Morneau's first 7 seasons leading up to his concussion in 2010, he had a SLG ranging from a low of .492, up to .618, in 6 0f those 7 years. While the 2011 comeback year SLG of .333 can certainly be understood and explained away, Morneau showed strong signs of his old self coming back in 2012, hitting 19 HR, 47 XBH and a decent, but not great, .440 SLG. So far in 2013, for long stretches, and even while he's been hitting for average, he looks like a completely different hitter than the pre-concussion days. To put it in perspective via the HR measure, Mauer, Arcia, Plouffe, even Hicks and Parmelee, have double the dingers of Morneau, 4-2. Morneau's current SLG of .401 ranks him 24th among qualified First Baseman. At the current output and large salary consideration, the Twins would be fortunate to get a B- prospect in return. Perhaps eating more of the salary would net something higher, but probably not much more. Mark Grace types on loan in a pennant race just wouldn't be that highly prized as a difference maker in the stretch run. If that's the type of offer out there, do the Twins let the FA thing just play out?
  13. And what if you're "sure" that Manea will sign, but 3 clubs ahead of you also got that same assurance from his agent? Can TR win a real-time in-draft bidding battle with 3 or more other clubs who also are thinking along these lines? Very sketchy.
  14. I concur with Christy above, what catcher in HS is ready for the majors, this is an absurd scouting report if that's what they're trying to sell to the public. I think the criticism is more likely to revolve around the incredibly risky madness of not drafting the best player available, and instead going for a guy with tons of questions surrounding him- getting the #4 overall pick- a guy who has a chance to be mentioned in the same breath as "the next Drew Butera" as the downside consolation prize??? WT???- and surrounding the history of the remote likelihood of a HS catcher in recent years without a certified hitting tool ever making a mark in the big leagues at the plate would be foolhardy. Simply put, Risks taken with this high of a pick must have incredible upside reward. I don't see it from this guy, and so what if you get Manea later on and he has the sore-armed history already on his resume to realistically project as just another breakdown candidate, a la, Alex Wimmers?
  15. Wow, thanks for the update. I'd say there's a fighting chance that the Twins could have the chance to reclaim him before this year is over (not that they should). I wonder what the record is for "organizations played for in one season"....?
  16. More proof of baseball wildness: Alex Burnett has been yo-yo-ing up and down between Baltimore and AAA Norfolk, while also at Norfolk, and knocking at the Oriole door, are Jason Pridie- who is a top I-League hitter and starting CF, and of course, Ol' Lou Ford, who played some key games at DH for the Birds last year and is bound to get a call-up at some point again.
  17. Or an additional bad massive FA position player contract....yeah, those 2 contracts were really "crippling"...
  18. Everyone in the world knew it was a HR except the umpires and the weekend ESPN steno guy.
  19. LOL. Sadly, your very clever reference is likely lost on at least half of the crowd on TD, who think "The Boss" is just that fascist swine that signs his weekly paycheck.
  20. How about Gardy's other slap in the face at common sense by moving the 2nd Baseman back to the 2-hole in the order? Gardy will no doubt take credit that his "old skool" machinations were responsible for the Dozier awakened bat as represented by his powerful 45-foot single.
  21. Now I know how Correia has survived this long in the bigs, Asbury. You may have missed it, but KC mentioned to Gardy a little arm stiffness late last week, conveniently requiring him to miss his scheduled start against the Tigers on Saturday.
  22. Fixed. And losing both players associated in these transactions will forever be a butt-sized burrs in the Twins saddle.
  23. Is it an intentional act on your part to so consistently completely miss the point of the counter-argument?
  24. Nope. Wrong as usual. I've documented this elsewhere. Since 07: Barry Zito Bengie Molina Rich Aurilia Dave Roberts Aaron Rowand Jeremy Affeldt Randy Johnson Edgar Renteria Juan Uribe Mark DeRosa Aubrey Huff Javier Lopez (deadline trade, xtnd with big raise) Miguel Tejada Ryan Vogelsong (best dumpster acquisition ever? re-signed big $$$) Melky Cabrera (via trade, raised salary to 1 yr @ $6M) Angel Pagan (via trade on Mets salary dump, re-signed both Pagan for big bucks- 3yrs/$31.75M, and then re-signed the 2 players in the original trade w/ Mets!, Torrez & Ramirez) Hunter Pence (de facto FA- via salary dump trade for 3 minor league non-prospects, Giants took on prorated $10.4M + $13.8M in 2013) Marco Scutaro (de facto FA- via salary dump trade for 1 minor leaguer, Giants accept prorated $6M + re-upped for 3yrs./$20M) Some good, some bad. Some supposedly "crippling". Giants still succussful over the similar time frame and payroll model as the Twins- and they took on other risks like in the fact that they bought out arb years and re-signed some of their best players, as well.
  25. Washington had a prolonged honeymoon as a new club returning at long last, Major League baseball to the city, starting as a resurrected corpse that was the Montreal Expos. No promises to be held accountable for, you had a very forgiving and/or disinterested fanbase, coupled with the eventual groundswell of excitement generated around building a new ballpark- and not the franchise per se or the existing players- this gave the Nats plenty of time to take the patient approach. The Twins of the last 10 years bear no resemblance to this model.
