  1. I generally enjoy Brad's articles. There are at least a million reasons why I won't be opening up this one.:s-instagib:
  2. #1 nominee for today's ironic, yet brutally truthful "Unkindest Cut of All" post:s-bluecap:
  3. I think the Strib comments section is indicative of mainly a couple dozen mostly drunken lay-abouts or chronic whiners who wouldn't have the grasp of a single fact about the Twins, even if it were plainly spelled out for them in their Alpha-Bits. And the only "cement" that the "one fan" knows about is in that block he uses as a head. And those tickets he threatens to "non-renew"? Those are probably freebies made available by his boss down at the gravel pit.
  4. Can you honestly say it will negatively affect your consuming habits relative to the Twins? Everything you pointed out was accurate but way in the past, you can't run a business and hope to remain competitive solely on nostalgia. And cheer up, the door hasn't been closed, if Justin was sincere and would be willing to come back at a steep discount (The Twins, if they retained him, could only make an offer to cut his salary by 20% before he entered the FA market), TR, with a much better price tag on Justin's services relative to his production, and more optimal control of flexibility within Morneau's contract, will almost certainly accommodate him.
  5. Why would DSP cut into his year-end bonus pool?
  6. My money's on the Twins getting the "Cash, Homey!"
  7. What PR hit? For the average fan, the season ended this weekend and they only begin paying attention again come next April.
  8. Which 5th outfielder would that be exactly?
  9. I am most pleased that Justin could go out on such a feel-good high note. That moonshot last night was vintage Morneau, and the game winner against one of baseball's very best pitchers.
  10. Hey, this crew is more than capable of doing the seemingly impossible. Our recent W-L September history suggests it can be done. We usually have to wait around once a week or so for a great game like last night's turned out to be, that might very well turn out to be the last "watchable" game of the year.
  11. ....or Arcia, or Willingham?
  12. See post above. With all his back and forth promotions this year, he's learned how to drive blindfolded on all the shortcuts on getting from Norfolk to Baltimore
  13. Being that 2014 will be his first arb-eligible season, you'd think his agent would convey to Plouffe a lot more urgency.....or maybe he should hire Danny Valencia's agent, Danny also begins arb-eligibility this year, his slash line for the Orioles is a quite different story from Plouffe's: .284/.323/.591/.913.
  14. If he makes it to the majors as a rotation regular, he will defy another set of conventions about starting pitchers that the Twins like defying, like Deduno and Albers did. How many 5'10" starters in the majors, are there actually?
  15. I beg to differ....One of These Teams is Not Like the Other! Twins last-place SP K/9 rate: 4.83 29th-rated team SP K/9 rate: 6.11 The 29th-rated team (Indians) is numerically closer to the 12th-ranked team in K/9 than the Twins are to the Indians.
  16. The whole point in a rebuilding team signing Doumit, Willingham and Carroll after 2011 was temporarily plugging holes in the lineup and looking at swapping them for assets that could play a part in their plans for when the turn comes. All 3 had seasons in 2012 that were either career-type, or at least raised their stock to teams that might need what they had to offer. Although no one would reasonably expect Ryan to have sold high on all 3, Carroll, a career journeyman at 38 on the cellar-dwelling Twins, certainly could have been dealt in August of 2012 for far more than they ended up receiving yesterday. (Jamey had an August 2012 slash line of .296/.374/.333, that's the definition of selling high). Jamey went on to finish the season really strongly, in September 2012, his slash proved he could have really helped a contender: .388/.419/.478.
  17. I held off on moving Sulbaran past May, for now, but continued quality performances at A+ next year could easily vault him in to the top ten and a possible leapfrog of May, if May stalls at AAA . Also, do Kepler's health issues and relatively low production output this year create enough questions to tick him down temporarily as new, more productive players come to the fore? Hopefully Berrios just hit the first-full-season innings wall and doesn't flame out.
  18. So the Red Wings making the playoffs isn't a top priority after all?
  19. Except more years of team control and multi-million$ saved by utilizing a Wil Myers-style June call-up instead, especially in a predestined lost year, anyways.
  20. I agree with your assessment. There was also an anomalous BABIP factor that accounts for some of his less-than-dominating numbers. And there are more underlying positives to take away from 2013, even if he didn't meet MrBrooks' standard for second-year dominaton at the same level ( ie, May ranked 3rd overall in the EL in K/9, and as you noted, increasing his K rate, even as he cut his BB rate dramatically). Having said that, I would probably drop him along the cusp of the top 10 now, with Polanco, Santana, and possibly Gonsalves nudging slightly ahead of him, leaving May tied or slightly ahead of Gonsalves for #9 or #10 ( I would drop Kepler out of the top 10, too, as he's destined for another year in CR to get firmer answers on his health and production...and Felix Jorge should get a big bump from up from #20, a big winter ball season for him in the DR might change the rankings quite a bit, too!). Coming back to May, he definitely appears to be a good listener and learner and appears to publicly demonstrate a cerebral approach on what it's going to take for him to reach the majors, this apparent coachability was demonstrated in his successful adaptation to the Twins SP philosophy, this, plus his healthy arm, power stuff, and horse-like physique still gives him a decent shot as a very solid, "effectively wild", back-end or #3 level, inning-eating starter.
  21. And Sano goes yard late. No. 35 with one man on.
  22. Sano goes yard early. No. 34 on the season.
  23. Maybe for mere mortals like us. But the normally very conservative Twins have publicly said they were convinced and that Buck was eagerly ready for the challenge- they specifically said they felt he was ready to take on AA-equivalent pitching- and no mention of lingering injuries or fatigue. I'm guessing they came to that conclusion in talks with both Buck and 'all-clears' from both the coaching and training staff at Ft Myers. There's a reason he's already renown as a focused and dedicated hard-worker.
  24. I agree that his XBH output is down somewhat disturbingly, but his Aug. SLG is still his 2nd best month of the 2013 season when you conflate his June A/A+ stats. I would attribute his low power and RBI output due in part to the FSL pitchers being extremely cautious in their approach to Buck, plus the 2 guys batting above him in August have regularly had pretty awful stats in terms of OBP, and the pretty legit reason given by the expert in the article for fatigue kicking in, what with all of the doubleheaders and that it's his first full season of ball.
