  1. Except Cuddyer won the batting title last year with a slash of .331/.389/.530 and OPS+ of 136.
  2. I think you've nailed it with this comment. I've been criticized in the past for pointing out that Hicks' work habits have always been questionable. When his interview came out going into his first MLB season, it became somewhat obvious that golf is his first love, and that he's had some daddy issues regarding the path and commitment towards his baseball career.
  3. Yeah... but just to be safe and in recognition of protecting the integrity of the TD board, that someone is allowed no more than 25% of his posts to be snarky in September.
  4. Wow. The "Gardy Stays or Gardy Goes" series? This is going to be some compelling, edge of our seats stuff this weekend.....
  5. Not much to say when it is agreed upon that September for a losing and rebuilding team is time for development of future less-experienced options, and that "playing time will only help his development"... but then, embedded in that same counterpoint opinion there is a need to be driven home, THREE separate times, that playing him OR not playing really doesn't makes any difference. (Or does that mean that there's some shaky uncertainty in the counterpoint opinion? )
  6. Minnesota Twins' Aaron Hicks tardy Sunday after injury As an avid viewer of Gardy post-game pressers, I could tell by his body language, that Aaron Hicks taking himself out of the starting lineup during yesterday's rain delay appeared to rub the manager the wrong way. And now, apparently, Saturday's "back issues" might have metastisized into something more serious today: For a guy who has already disappointed his bosses rather frequently over the last two seasons and needs a strong September to work his way back into the OF mix for 2015, this seems like awfully bad timing on the part of Aaron Hicks.
  7. In what world is 23 starts at Catcher "plenty"?
  8. Other than except for the fact that both the coaching staff and neutral third parties have gone on record that Pinto has improved with more AAA reps, and that logically, getting actual MLB experience is what turns a rookie into more of an experienced veteran, this statement might have some validity.
  9. Speaking of guys I'd like to see Andy work his magic on, the Twins miss him this week, but I'd like to see the Twins buy low and try to trade for this guy: http://ww4.hdnux.com/photos/13/33/52/2996871/9/628x471.jpg
  10. Speaking of health "issues", to just recently "back" in time.... Vance Worley has a shutout going through 7 innings against the Brew Crew, on 73 pitches w/ 56 strikes. His ERA on the year is now down to 2.94
  11. It isn't about the final week, it's about the final month, and the point of September call-ups on a rebuilding team. And heavy on the operative phrase, "I'm not sure". We sure won't know much....and he has no shot at improving... if he's not playing. Playing Suzuki all of these games in September tells us nothing about the future and accomplishes little more than that, and everything about Suzuki's resume tells us that this year is the anomaly, and that, as he turns 31 two weeks from today, he in all likelihood, reverts to his pre-2014 career OPS+ of 86.
  12. That gamer Hicksie is sure making his case for the spot in CF, isn't he? Must be already on the golf course.... in his mind, anyway.
  13. And not playing him assures that to be the case. This shouldn't be about "roles", but about what's best for the Twins in the long run
  14. "The guy I'm disappointed in is Pinto"... What?... That has to be audio trolling, no informed baseball guy would say something that dense, given the facts of the matter. That Pinto is not playing at least 50% of the time since the call-up date, and that Fryer is playing ANY % is baffling, when, by all accounts, Pinto has to play to improve his catching skills. Moreover, Pinto goes 4 for 10 in his first two September starts with 4 doubles. Since then, he's had all of 3 starts over the last 15 DAYS, and hasn't played at the Catcher position in 9 DAYS. And one of those starts was at DH. And Gladden even got it wrong about Pinto appearing "every other night", Pinto's last PH appearance before tonight was Monday, which would be 5 DAYS ago. Can you say, "Set Up for Failure?" Even if the Twins don't like Pinto as a long-term option (which seems like a pretty good guess at this point!), it was just good business to play Pinto as much as possible in September, if for nothing else, but showcasing purposes, in a potential offseason trade.
  15. What is September on a team about to lose 90+ games for the 4th consecutive year but Spring Training- Fall EditionTM?
  16. It can never be swept under the rug, despite it being blatantly obvious to the entire world that they were not capable of even the barest minimum level of major league performance, both during and after Spring Training, Gardy was adamant in his insistence that Florimon and Bartlett were 2 of his top 3 guys at SS, and Santana was the one not ready for prime time.
  17. It's pretty clear from the lack of playing time that Pinto is little more than an afterthought in the Twins plans going forward, at least to Gardy, and apparently not enough of a point of emphasis for Ryan to tell Gardy to get him in more. Even Fryer has gotten a start at Catcher since the call-up date. And so much for Santana getting some major SS immersion in September. Santana is actually playing in CF tonight, yet again, over not one, but two players who have played almost exclusively in CF for their entire professional careers.
  18. "Offensive upside?" Great, give TR a chance to get rid of Big Papi twice in the same century.... How would a Big Papi II not, potentially, fit into a DH/1B role in the coming tide of MiLB players?
  19. I don't think there's a shred of evidence for this claim. "Most people", if they had any interest in Drew at all, was most certainly not obtaining via trade, but as a short-term FA acquisition at under-market-value due to his individual contract status, while we waited to see which SS prospect emerged to take the spot long-term.
  20. AAA standards can be easily met with a commitment by the Ownership and the City of St Paul to upgrade the new park in a certain amount of time.
  21. Yep, and my study posted in Nick's article on defense confirms that this year's Team SP stats are better than 2013 in every major category. The ERA-FIP differential was by far the highest in the league. The OF defense has been a well-documented disaster for most of the year, and the Twins won't significantly improve the defensive dynamic until Buxton is finally ready. Schafer and Hicks are fine to a point, but the team only needs one of them as a 4th OFer. To get a lot better overall in 2015, the club still needs to hire a LFer somewhere in-between the defensive chasm represented by Josh Willingham and Alex Gordon who can hit a little bit.
  22. A #1 seems very optimistic. I'd be extremely pleased if he ends up as a solid 3-4-level starter on a playoff caliber team. If he somehow ends up as a 2-level guy, this team is going to be really good in about 3 years with clearly higher level talent soon available. I'd still hope that the Twins make a serious effort to have James Shields here to be the staff leader on a 4 year deal, May and Meyer, especially, would really benefit from Shields and Hughes fronting the rotation and showing them the way it's done.
  23. After tonight, care to revise and amend that remark?
  24. Easily one of the best games of the year. Nice, fast-paced game with some Santana and Nolasco thrills, drama and dominance, a Kennys jolt + a full dose of Kennys joviality & jocularity on the base paths, along with some 9th inning pathos, agony and ecstasy from familiar faces on both sides. What a great game (well worth my scalper $10 box seat tix).
