  1. Just like in a chess match, this is what happens when a grandmaster makes an obvious blunder- may I suggest, many of us find this move "honestly skin-curdling." Neither TR, Molly or you, have as of yet provided that "reasonable explanation" or "credible argument" that would quell "the mob."
  2. Arcia isn't ready. Vargas has been mashing since April 29. There's room for Vargas as the DH now. Still have one too many utility infielders.
  3. Thanks, spycake- and one more pillar of the "magical mystery move" theory crumbles into dust.. Some of us have been saying for some time now that Arcia was likely to require some rehab time in Rochester, and he's still not ready to take BP.
  4. Boyer is a great story, but Jeff Gray was a "great story" when he started out with the Twins in 2012. I like Boyer the human being, but how much is there to like about his numbers just below the surface- Do we like his May BABIP? .227 Do we like his unsustainable May strand rate of..... 100%? Do we like his May K%? 7.7% Do we like his May K/9? 2.70 Do we like his May HR/FB? 0.0% (unsustainable) Do we think his RP bottom 20 LD% (26.6%), coupled with a Lo-K% can sustain effectiveness? Do we think he more closely resembles the April Blaine Boyer?- .292/.333/.511/(.845) OPS+ 138 or the May Blaine Boyer?- .200/.240/.250/ (.490) OPS + 37
  5. I would assume that the taxi squad catcher, Allan de San Miguel is ready to be activated the moment that Pinto would get the call-up, so I don't think the Twins can use that as an excuse.
  6. Do you mean yesterday? 0.3 IP 4 H 3 ER ERA 81.00 FIP -2.85
  7. I've long had on my wish list that the Twins either try transitioning Plouffe into a Super-Utility role (ie, one extra role could be hitting against LH in place of Arcia and slotting Escobar at 3rd until Sano arrives) or trade him during one of his hot streaks to maximize his value in return. He's a good piece to a larger puzzle, he's just not the guy batting clean-up on a contending team.
  8. I've been to Wrigley for at least 75 games, including a half dozen frigid opening days, not once was the experience "not enjoyable" or "unappreciated" (not even the game where two drunken fools fell from the second deck right in front of our group in the midst of a fist fight). Nothing artificial in "the friendly confines", but I understand the concept of those who appreciate more, the modern concept that the baseball club's are obligated to create "the fan experience".... to each his own.
  9. I hope you're right about Santana, but I fear about counting too much on a guy who has likely enhanced his previous production, and will now have no choice but to pitch PED-free--- unless maybe if he hires ARod's "nutrition consultant."
  10. Yep, this is the epitome of a Forrest Gump team ("Life is like a box of chocolates..."). And because of that, the first 6 weeks of the season have been enjoyable. But realistically, aren't there always a few pieces in that chocolate box that we turn our noses at? I especially agree with your last point. The Twins had already de facto designated an essentially unusable 25th man in JR Graham, and now they look very comfortable with extending Doug Bernier's stay, rather than doing more of that necessary "heat harnessing" you so eloquently referred to. I would think continuing a series of head-scratching roster decisions, like throwing non-performers out there day after day like Duensing, Hermann, Stauffer, et al.... will eventually cost them some winnable games.
  11. I think you missed my point, I don't dislike Plouffe, at all. But i did answer directly to the OP> A team on which Plouffe is asked to bat clean-up, probably isn't likely to end up in the post-season.
  12. As I noted, plenty of legitimate places nearby to get refreshments before and after the game. And for me, anyway, the game is the most important, and Wrigley is a shrine, nothing fake in there, they never cut down the ivy because some "frat boy" players complained about it. I haven't been there recently, but the crowd was always part of the experience for me.
  13. Are you envisioning another spot for Mauer before then?
  14. So... as a counterpoint, you offer faint 'Wait Til Next Year' hope, but positively, certainly, definitely.... 2017... is when they should start trying to win, 'for real'? Ugh.
  15. Too soon. This team is sporting Plouffe, Escobar and Suzuki in the middle of the order. Mauer appears to have returned to his 2014 funk. Yesterday's and Saturday's game illustrated that Gibson has returned to Earth and May will be inconsistent and subject to the big inning. And also that the bullpen will continue to be shaky, especially if Fien doesn't hit the ground running when he comes off of the DL.
  16. I too heard that interview and commented on it here. Since we've become accustomed to the level of spin in the "message", it's always interesting trying to read the tea leaves amidst that spin. Clearly, the club is enamored with Rosario and his developmental arc, especially since the AFL experience. Somewhat uncharacteristically, they showed no hesitation in slotting him at AAA coming out of ST, despite him not demonstrating mastery at the AA level, and have now taken the next step in his fast track, by promoting him to the big club and piled on votes of confidence, before he'd demonstrated mastery of AAA pitching. I give them kudos for pushing and challenging a prospect, but as I mentioned in my post, the praise heaped on Rosario in the radio interview, came at the expense of Buxton and Sano... and for all intents and purposes, Antony slated Sano for an OF job with the Twins. Obviously, the Twins OF situation is extremely over-crowded at this point in time. Antony's comments seemed to imply that we won't be seeing Buxton and Sano any time soon- and those are the guys with more talent than Rosario- and who should be pushed at least as fast as Eddie.
  17. Did Molitor and Ryan forget the part about the need for pinch hitters is a factor of 4 times or more likely in a National League park? Or the part about removing Vargas from the roster this week eliminates the 3 game possibility for Vargas to crank long flies up into the US Cellular jet stream?
  18. Haven't Twins fans 'delayed their gratification' and 'sacrificed now' enough already? Baseball owners refer to this as continuing to sell the ballpark/all star game circus and balloons when there are still enough willing suckers to go through the turnstyles. Come on now Mr. Spinowner, Mr Pohlad authorized an increase in the payroll to over $110M because even he'd finally had enough head in the sand embarrassment more than any one fan can take. Mr Pohlad is expecting that added dollars will help this team to win more, why can't the fans feel the same way?
  19. Why do I get the feeling that this line will go down in Twins Way infamy....?
  20. The percentages of how things might play out are definitely pretty fluid, however, Terry's health issues are going to be an ongoing concern. I would also think he feels obligated to the Pohlad's to getting the club back to where it was a decade ago, before he would ever consider easing back on his current schedule. That timetable could be accelerated if the Twins can finish the year out strong, while simultaneously quickly putting most of the prospect pieces in place by the end of the 2015 season. And also thinking realistically, should he have a health setback, the timetable for succession might get accelerated, regardless. In which case, I am strongly opposed to "Plan A".... ie, handing the reins to Rob Antony.
  21. Molly's doing a fine job, indeed. However, he may end up doing such a good job that Terry Ryan may feel comfortable enough in handing over some or all of his current duties to Paul, when he feels the timing is right. Like Ryan, Paul isn't getting any younger, and a move upstairs and away from all of the travel might be very appealing to him in a couple more years. If that turns out to somehow be the case, I would definitely want Redmond on the short list of managerial candidates.
  22. This still doesn't account for why Bernier is the best choice to hold the spot until Arcia is ready.
  23. Are we sure about this? How about when all hands are 100% available and healthy, and in conjunction with this... How about when they come to their senses and realize that Bernier isn't a viable option as the 25th man? Boston and Toronto are scuffling, after this coming week, the next 10 games are with those two clubs.... how about holding off until a week from Monday with this move?
  24. The Twins made an excellent hire in getting former Cubs manager, Mike Quade to replace Glynn. It's time for Smith to move on, Redmond would be a nice shot in the arm for a mostly unheralded, under-performing group in Ft Myers. Going forward, Red-Dog would be nice to have join Quade in the managerial mix should there be further turnover in the front office (How long does Terry Ryan stick around past the completion of the rebuild?, his leaving could start the dominoes to tumble, perhaps Molitor moves upstairs in that scenario).
