  1. Nothing like giving at least 1/2 the lead right back.
  2. Maybe Frankie could get back out there and pitch? Only 25 years have gone by since his 87 Cy Young season. Just the blink of an eye.
  3. Yes, it does. And that's where Mauer needs to do some repair work. I think 2011 hurt him tremendously. We heard/read rumors about players elsewhere questioning his "toughness". He seemingly wanted (and got) special treatment -- I still don't know why he did not spend a single day of his rehab in Rochester. Not to mention the whole mysterious "bi-lateral leg weakness" (the Twins & their P.R. staff probably did him a huge disservice there). Joe Mauer is a very good professional baseball player whose statistics will probably be worthy of the Hall of Fame (maybe more than worthy of the Hall of Fame). He just doesn't generate much excitement outside the state of Minnesota.
  4. Gotta love what is happening with the Orioles, though. What a playoff atmosphere last night. Stands were full. Crowd was so excited == a sea of black & orange. For anyone who may have "checked out" on the Twins (per thread in Twins Talk), this was a good example of how much fun it can be to check in somewhere else. And its probably the only good thing about the Twins being so bad. When the Twins are winning, I tend to focus only on their games. The last 2 seasons, I've watched a lot more baseball from other teams -- and its a lot of fun -- even without a "dog in the hunt".
  5. Yeah but he has his team hitting HR. I was saying "Damn Yankees" in the top half of the 8th inning. But the Orioles have impressed in the bottom half.
  6. JC has some nice photos and a description of the 1st game over on the Knuckleballs blog: http://knuckleballsblog.com/2012/09/snappers-playoff-win-photos/
  7. Apart from his accomplishments, Kirby Puckett's fame grew thanks to Bob Casey. An entire generation of kids saying: "Kir-beeeeeeeeeee Puck-it"
  8. I don't think I've checked out but I honestly don't care about the results ... except for a morbid curiosity to see how close they can come to equalling or exceeding last year's debacle. I probably watch most closely when the Twins are in the field followed by the AB's of some of the "new guys." But I'm also switching a lot more to the games of some of the contending teams.
  9. What's is Span's off-season value? Diminishing. It seems that with every off-season and trade deadline that goes by without trading Span, he gets older, the time left on his "team-friendly" contract gets shorter and he piles up injuries and DL time. I don't think that Bill Smith should have traded him for a reliever but it seems like the window is closing pretty quickly.
  10. Does anyone remember the circumstances under which Slama was called up in 2011? Just went and saw that he had 2.1 IP with 0H, 0R, 2 BB, 1 WP and 3 SO. Wondered what happened that he only got in 2 games. Was someone just out for a day or two? Again, with how bad this club was, it seems just downright weird that they didn't keep him with the club for more than 2 games. I know they hate walks but it's not like their other relievers were all that effective -- maybe Matt Capps didn't walk anybody but it seemed like he always put at least 1 runner on base before he worked his way out of an innning.
  11. The title of the article is clear. If you didn't want to read another take on the handling of Slama, you didn't need to read it. And you didn't need to comment. It doesn't surprise me that Cody wrote a piece about Slama for his blog, "North Dakota Twins Fan" and I appreciate that his blog entries are also posted here at TD.
  12. I've come to the irrevocable conclusion that the A.L. Central just isn't very good.
  13. I'll take 18 runs a game, too. And I'll believe it when I see it consistently. The Twins line-up has been able to put up big numbers all season ... it has also been able to stink up the joint and have trouble scoring 2 or 3.
  14. I hope this is the TD column in the Strib. Nice job Nick.
  15. I had a similar thought. Just how cheap can Terry Ryan get?
  16. I appreciate that Shipley asked the questions. But the problem, Mr. Ryan, is that Slama EARNED a look BEFORE he was injured. And then came back from his injury and kept on earning it.What a bunch of B.S.
  17. Well, if they idea is to get Ryan to answer questions, it appears that ship has sailed. Shipley did a reasonable job but the answers are total B.S. (and I don't mean Bill Smith).
  18. For those who know when to call in, I urge you to do it. And if, in addition to signing the petition, anybody wants to e-mail Mr. Ryan directly with similar sentiments, do it. Or send them to someone else in the Twins' food chain. AND, some of us should e-mail Mackey, LEN3, etc. and ask them to press for an explanation. Attack the issue on all fronts.
  19. Well, I won't pretend to document anything. But on the more than 2 years of complaining front, I remember absolutely screaming when Mr. Gardenhire kept putting Morneau in the line-up day after day in August/September 2009. I posted over and over that there was something clearly wrong with him. I wasn't sure if it was physical or mental but I knew that there was a problem -- that it wasn't an ordinary slump. And sure enough, after days and days and days of horrendous performance, they finally diagnosed the stress fracture in his back. I have to assume that a lot of this is on Morneau but I still don't understand why that situation went on for as long as it did.
  20. At least we got to see a rarity!
  21. No, I'm watching it too, Chief. Blech.
  22. Sign me up, please.
  23. I was not one of the people screaming about the medical staff last week -- as I recall I made some comment about "art" and "science"; however, the medical issues and DL use are puzzling to me. BUT more than that, I'm concerned that even in what will be another 90+ loss season, fault FOR ANYTHING doesn't seem to get assigned. Terry Ryan makes the token "I accept responsibility" statement -- but what does that mean? It looks like this organization just rolls merrily along. We'll see at the end of the season but for now, all I see is stagnation. And that is not a good harbinger for next season.
  24. Parmelee was my pick for this series. I'm liking these points.
  25. What do you expect a dad to say?
