  1. He's not going to get traded, nor would he accept a trade.
  2. Are you sure you understand what that word means? I think the word you were looking for was hyperbole.
  3. The only way I'd bring in Pavano is if he signs a minor league deal, or a deal similar to Zumaya last year (1 mil base, but only owed like 30% of it if he is cut prior to opening day) I mean, if Pavano was back to 100% healthy and could replicate his 2010/2011 production for us it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have him at the back of the rotation. But I want nothing to do with giving him 2-3 mil guaranteed.
  4. He was also very good in 2008, 2010 and a decent chuck of the Twins season (when they brought him back up from the pen) I don't think he is going to post a sub 3 ERA and a 10k/9 2.5 BB rate like '06, but I think its entirely possible that he could post a 4.00 ERA if things break right (along with some really outstanding preformances)
  5. Counting on DeDuno/DeVries/Walters to even give you "one arm" in the rotation for the whole season is a mistake, counting on them for 2 or 3 of those pitching spots is a recipe for disaster. I like Baker, but will he even be 100% come beginning of next season? FWIW I hope they resign him as I think he could be huge in a contract/make or break year.
  6. I guess I thought the issue has been they haven't run enough. I agree, they seemed to just decent stretches without giving peterson the ball at all. One thing I do like is them including Adrian more and more in the passing game.
  7. This seems to have been an issue all year, the Detroit game was a good example to, some real nice drives that got stalled out. It would be so nice to have a big WR to toss it to in the red zone, since Harvin and Peterson are more or less going to be guarded very closely.
  8. Ponder looked like dog**** today, terrible passes and terrible decisions all day. I'm not super worried about the defense yet, RGIII exposed there one real weakness which is lack of speed, fortunately the majority of QBs from here on out aren't exactly the running types: Freeman, Kolb, Wilson, Rodgers, Cutler, Shaub,Bradford, etc The frustrating thing with this game is the Vikes should have been up 17-0 in the 1st quarter, not 9-0, you GOT to put the ball in the endzone in this league, and they let the Redskins back into it. Couple that with two gift INT/TD's from Ponder and the Vikings were screwed. ****ty cause they should/could have won this game. Now they gotta win the next two against Zona and TB to keep us in a good spot. @Seattle looks like a damn tough game. But if we can go into the bye at 6-3 we at least set ourselves up for a legit playoff run. I still maintain this team needs another threat at WR, you could tell the Skins were keying off on Peterson and Harvin all day. Jenkins had a nice catch and Rudolph had a nice game, but it would be so nice if we had someone we could throw a jump ball or something to in the endzone (or go deep) I almost wonder if it would be worth trying to bring on Plaxico Burress? Dude actually played somewhat decent last year and I think could be solid as long as we don't need him as a #1. Thoughts?
  9. Honestly I don't think anything is crippling our offense, the offense the past 3 games has looked pretty good. Obviously in Detroit they didn't put up gaudy numbers, but that is because they were playing with a lead and trying to run the clock out. I think they only had him throw the ball like 8-10 times in the 2nd half alone. I do agree he could have played better that game as it was definitely his worst. I mean at the end of the day he is getting it done, 69% Comp percentage, 95.5 Passer Rating, 7 total TDS vs 2 turnovers 70.64 QBR Rating. Has he made mistakes? Of course. Has he looked "sexy" out there all the time? Nope. But in this case IMO the numbers don't lie, he is getting the job done and the Vikes are 4-1 exceeding all of our expectations. I do think he needs to continue to improve though, but I am pleased with his improvement over last year for sure! One thing I would like to see the Vikes do is call a couple designed QB sneaks for him. The guy has some decent wheels on him and it could only help further open up the field for him.
  10. How to find a spot for Chavez 1. Stop carrying a million guys in the pen. 2. Stop carrying three catchers. Boom, problem solved.
  11. I don't know why the Cardinals would want to get rid of Schumaker, he was never truly a full time "starter" the past two years for them anyways. He is on a cheap deal and still provides value, I mean if they want to give him away for nothing I am all for it though. Ideally we could then find a taker for Carroll.
  12. Signing a guy like Liriano instead of the next Jason Marquis, Ortiz, Hernandez etc is moving forward.
  13. Yeah I hear ya, I just can't see anyone giving him a multi year deal (maybe an NL team if they are desperate?) I mean there will be a lot of interest but would be shocked if he gets 6+ million
  14. LOL 2006 wasn't that great? 2.16 ERA 10.7k is pretty damn good... He was also pretty good in 2008 and 2010. I guess you basically would hope that this is the year that it finally "clicks" with him? Who knows. I'd just rather give him 3 million or so then the next Ramon Ortiz type who you know will post a 4.75-5.00 ERA at least with Liriano there is the hope he figures it out and gives you a 3.50 ERA or something. I also like the thought about putting him in the pen, however he really would need to lower his walk rate, which exactly wouldn't be the easiest thing in the world.
  15. Liriano is not going to get 7 mil. He is rocking a 5.23 ERA the last two seasons, teams will take a chance on him no doubt, but not for 7-8 mil.
  16. The 49ers added Manningham and Moss, while neither is a pro bowl caliber WR they are both pretty damn legit and open the field up quite a bit (leaving Davis and Crabtree to see more single man coverages) Hell Manningham or Moss would be the 2nd best WR on the Vikes roster currently. (I like Simpson, but he is injured and sounds like it will be nagging the rest of the year) This is why I think Smith has been able to take that jump from solid to very good/great this season. Or maybe its just taken him 6 years to progress, who knows. The problem with the Vikes is after Harvin they don't have any legit WR's just a bunch of guys who should be #4's or so. Jenkins is awful and Aroshmandu isn't bad as a 4. I like what Rudolph has done but he's more around league average then great. I wish we could find someone who grows tired of a WR and flip them for Toby Gerhart at some point this season.
  17. He's not the reason we're winning games. And the offense has been inept for long stretches this season, so in part we're winning inspite of the offense. His QB rating is driven by completion percentage and low turnovers - which are good things - but we need more from him if we're a serious contender. The last three weeks the offensive line, special teams, and defense have impressed me. The offense laid an egg against a bad Detroit defense and were pretty meh against a sub-par Titans team. I was impressed in the Niners game though. The "high completion% and low turnovers" comment was the EXACT same thing said about Smith last season, and he took them to the brink of the super bowl. I agree that he needs to still improve, but it would be nice if he had more than Harvin to throw to. Look how awesome Smith has been this year with a couple more competent WR's at his disposal. Also the offense looked fine against Tennessee, they put up 30 points with an injured Adrian Peterson!
  18. Well thats great and all for the 2015 and 2016 Twins...but some of us want to talk about how to improve this team for 2013 and 2014.
  19. Is there some reason you just don't post various synonyms of "jerking off"? Because the last few weeks you would make Paul Allen blush with your homerism. This offense has looked bad more often than it has looked good. There are plenty of reasons not to be in love with this team and it isn't just about the other WRs and TEs. Great QBs can drastically raise the level of the skill players around them. The Vikings have plenty of weapons to be at least an average offense. At some point you do have to pin it on the guy distributing. It would be a lot easier to be positive about what Ponder has done well if you weren't so damn eager to ignore all the things he wasn't doing well. And great point Ben, I've noticed the same thing. The front seven on defense are playing some intense, ferocious football and the guys up front are giving the QB a lot of time and the RBs some huge holes. Winning the line of scrimmage does wonders for a team's ability to win games. See you keep claiming that Ponder isn't doing a good job, but yet he has a 95.5 QB Rating. He must be doing ok, no? Could it be better? Yes. Do I think he will continue to improve? Yes. The team started out a little sluggish this year but even you have to admit the last three weeks have been nothing short of impressive.
  20. I'm not saying he would be a world beater, but I would rather give him 2-3 mil then the next Marquis. At least with a guy like Liriano there is that hope that he becomes a nice bargain.
  21. It's possible to find useful players on minor-league contracts. The Twins had success finding relief arms through that avenue last offseason. The Orioles found a starter who as I type this is currently shutting down the Yankees in Game 3 of an ALDS series. It's all about making good evaluations and getting a little lucky. The article is called "Lottery Tickets" for a reason. No one is suggesting that you give any of these guys a major league deal or guaranteed rotation spot. There's little downside to bringing them to spring training - and maybe even sending them to Rochester to start the season - and seeing what they have. The entire Orioles team is more or less dumpster diving and buying low. They have done a fantastic job of such this year.
  22. I'd start him out in AAA for the first couple months then call him up in June so we don't have to start his clock to soon.
  23. Don't be so sure about the Yankees offering him much more money, the Yanks are slashing payroll over the next two years. Though its not like we are talking about a large amount, but the odds of him returning are pretty high, but you never know the Yanks could try to bring in a younger/longer term solution at 3B. I'm not sure Chavez will find a true starting spot from anyone due to injury history/issues but if he choose the Twins it might be one of his best shots to get the most at bats. As far as the 90 loss thing...yeah..that is the tough part but ideally the Twins can start making a nice splash in free agency to at least appear more attractive to players.
  24. Why wouldnt they choose this year? Needing WAY MORE than JJ doesn't mean you shouldn't start assembling WAY MORE. They're going to need starting pitching, from outside the organization, in 2013 AND 2016. Do you think it's realistic they can just sit around until YOU decide they're good enough to get better, and at that point both the pitchers to acquire and the assets to acquire them will magically step forward? Sitting back and thinking the moon and stars are going to align in some undefined magical year far off in the future is how you become the KC Royals. You're perpetually trading the present for the future, until one day you wake up and you realize you're 20 years into a 4 year rebuilding plan with nothing to show for it, and you're farther away than you were 20 years ago. if they can get a Josh Johnson for a reasonable price, including trading some minor league assets, AND sign him to an extension, they absolutely should do so. I'm digging your ideas these days Chief, now if I could only bring you over to the church of DeRosa...
  25. People are freaking out about the ARod thing, but its not going to be the norm for him in 2013, he is just in a slump now. He didn't have a great year by any means but still had a decent year at the plate, they are paying him to much money to PH for him on a regular basis. I could see the Yankees bring back Chavez though as insurance, but who knows with the Yankees, I could also see them go out and try to find a young 3B to play while A-Rod DH's more or something.
