ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Cubs will pay roughly $17.7 million of the approximately $24.5 million left on Alfonso Soriano's contract. The Yankees will be on the hook for about $1.8 million this year and $5 million next year. The trade sending the veteran outfielder back to the Bronx only needs commissioner Bud Selig's approval at this point. The Cubs are expected to receive pitching prospect Corey Black in the deal. Just think where we would be if we signed Sanchez and Hunter, we would be ahead of them. Ryan is to blame.
  10. Top Gun
If the Twins would have sign a ace free agent they would be up with clev now and won't be worried about this.
  11. Top Gun
We knew Liriano & Greinke would be great, they had ace written all over them. Marcum was hurt more than we knew.

Agent Scott Boras said Monday that his client, Twins pitching prospect Alex Meyer (shoulder), will return before the end of the minor league season. "I spoke to (general manager) Terry (Ryan) about Alex," Boras said. "They're doing the appropriate things, examining him, resting him. We have not heard anything that suggests that he wouldn't be back (by season's end)." Meyer doesn't have any structural damage in his shoulder, but the Twins are understandably taking things slowly with the top prospect. He's been out since early June.
