  1. I've gone through and done this haphazardly as well, and it is always interesting. Thanks for doing this in a methodical fashion. It just occurred to me to wonder about the Angels picking Trout with that second pick- Had they not had that "bonus" pick, and taken a chance on the unrefined kid from Jersey, how much farther might Trout have fallen?
  2. I do recall a few of those pitchers; certainly Aaron Crow--he was a Royal, no? However, Purke and Hobgood? I think I'll use that to name a Potion Shop or something, if I ever write a children's Harry Potter type novel. *winning has become so de rigeur (did I do that right?) that I don't even have a comment about the game to make.
  3. Thanks for the written update. I heard snippets hear and there during the radio broadcast today, but I appreciate the thoroughness of this report. Bummed for these guys, and I hope them all speedy recoveries. Excited to see Wander make his season debut!
  4. Get off my virtual lawn! [goes back to watching Seinfeld on DVD]
  5. Forget 3 games, or even 2. I checked the score earlier and Berrios was behind 4-1. To the White Sox. You better believe I smashed the panic button with a sledgehammer. And a jackhammer. And yet, I went for a walk, and when I came back to find they were up 8-4, I wasn't at all surprised.
  6. Thanks for this. Duffey has got to realize this his chance to finally establish his presence with authority.
  7. Tademo is a guy that intrigues me. Has he been hurt to start the year? For some reason I feel like there was an injury situation with the Miracle last year, and he was a guy they pulled right from the Rookie team and plugged into high-A. And that he held his own. But maybe I'm thinking of a different player. Nice start for Thorpe, another clunky finish for Romero. I'd hoped Romero could fall into that young, flamethrowing bullpen arm role, but I'm starting to fear he is miscast. At any rate, he's looking like a non-factor this year to me.
  8. Buxton and Sano said some variation of "fun" or "having fun" about 27 times in that interview. When you think about it, both the guys have some perspective on what non-fun baseball feels like. The Mariners would be the last team besides the Twins I'd want this to happen to, but this will definitely be a "remember when" game. Hopefully not in September, in a bad way--"remember when they were 15 games up and hit 15 home runs in one game?" I WILL always remember that one game I attended in Seattle when Jason Tyner almost hit a homer, and I was pretty happy about that. Time have a-changed.
  9. What’s the story with Zach Neff? Is he related to Mr. Neff, my high school music teacher? Is he tall, skinny, slightly stooped back with a scraggly beard? Anyway, this is the best part of these recaps—an unsung prospect gets sung upon deserving it. Thanks for doing it, TD Team!
  10. All's well the wins well. Or even wins ugly. Someone commented in the game thread that that end game stuff could be season defining, and I scoffed to myself. In hindsight, perhaps it will be--a relatively unheralded member of the team got out of an icky jam. Things break bad in baseball all of the time. They didn't roll over, this time--and they haven't been this year. I like it. As far as putting Hildy in there--obviously, glad they didn't lose, so I'm actually glad he got one more chance. If this doesn't happen now, maybe they're forced to go to him in a closer game and the DO lose. At least now, there's a chance for someone else. I'd sure love to be shocked and see them dip down to AA for Stashak or Graterol.
  11. This right here. Maybe the increased swing rate can be partly attributed to Astudillo? Taking walks is of course not a horrible thing, but the old moneyball trend that placed such high praise (and not without mathematical merit) on them perhaps got in the heads of some players and hitting coaches for a while. Basically, the idea is to put the ball in play--that is what makes it fun. Which is why you see Dad's everywhere swinging at pitches literally 6 feet above their heads while their kids pitch to them.
  12. The Martin Perez signing thread is chock full of damning evidence that does contain a few meh's, but mostly some incredibly harsh criticism of the signing. And a couple of intrepid defenders. You all know who you are. I think I unfortunately did not document my strong endorsement of the signing, though... Really, though, it's neither here nor there--we were all right! And that is why baseball is fun--it is unpredictably predictable, and chock-full of known unknowns and even unknown unknowns. And maybe a few known knowns, like the rules regarding retaliation pitches and homerun celebrations. Dare I say that Falvine has unearthed our Arrieta? Or our Arietta? Arrietta? Aarietaa?
  13. Adrianza gets a little more leash after slaying Verlander. Dumping him might wreck the teams MOJO, a difficult to quantify stat but a real thing nonetheless. Anyway, this will likely solve itself.
  14. Can't say I told you so about the Perez signing, because I didn't. I can say I hoped you so. I love big innings, but the relentless onslaught this offense put up seems like it could be the sign of something. Hmm. Oh yes--Summer Is Coming. Oh, and also, these guys are staying loose and picking each other up. I think every player, including Adrianza, Cave, and maybe even Austin, have had a significant hand in at least one win. Perfect environment for Sano to come in and just be himself. (His new, better, improved self.) My single biggest source of confidence comes from the new normalcy that is Byron Buxton. I think I dare say he's...nope. Not saying it. It just occurred to me how much fear the three-headed bullpen monster of Taylor, Blake, and Trevor must invoke in opponents.
  15. Other than a rare Castro homer, nice to see them string a barrage of hits and walks together for a big inning.
  16. I liked Odo's comment about this team being "special." They do seem to have some real mojo.
  17. Went to see the Avengers movie and missed this. Looks like I could have saved some money and watched just about the same thing!
  18. Man, Rosario! The Twins aren't a juggernaut by any means, but I feel much less pessimistic this year than in years past. I feel like this lineup can erupt on ANY pitcher, at any time. Similarly, I feel like the pitching isn't horrible, but I do feel like ANY lineup could erupt against them, at any time. That it was three of the best offensive players in the league doesn't surprise me in the leas
  19. That video of Thorpe is worth the quick watch; with sound if possible. That last high fastball had that batter looking like a little kid swiping at a wasp trying to steal his cupcake.
  20. All I know is that I somehow felt ecstatic there at the end, when Buxton put good wood on the ball and gave the team a chance. Man oh man, I was dreading the inevitable flailing at pitches in the left-handed batting box. And it didn't happen. The fact this team is having close games to feel angsty about is a good thing. Very few ass whoopings here; they're kind of beating themselves--but just barely. Let's hope the learning curve is steep. In the right direction...
  21. Wasn't good enough/needed enough by the Yankees, and not for the Twins either. We're moving up in the world.
