  1. This problem has been very evident since the trading deadline. I’ve been waiting for trades since the offseason started and the only move was to tender Larnach. I tend to believe that baseball gms know what they’re doing, but this is malpractice.
  2. I see Arcia as the likely winner of the utility infielder. Gray has an option and Arcia did not activate his opt-out. Arcia's numbers don't look bad after 3-4 day at Jet Blue. .273 BA, .761 OPS, only one K, and his defensive ratings last year were still all right. Gray has done nothing to show he should be in the majors.
  3. I had to run errands and missed someof the game. Is Martin all right. He was HBP and then went out of the game.
  4. I hope the Twins can build a little momentum in the last few games. I'm not happy about the roster they've put together, but players breaking out could make those last roster spots much less important.
  5. Clemens didn't play an inning of third base in ST or last season. He played some outfield last year, but it looks like the Twins prefer him at second base, while moving Keaschall to the outfield if such a situation happens. Arcia played equal amounts of second, short and third with Colorado, but had hardly played anything but shortstop in 2023 and 2024. He hasn't hit much since the first half of 2023. Agree on both Larnach and Outman. I've been suggesting giving Austin Martin a full-time run in left field to see what he can provide, making Outman superfluous and limiting Larnach to DH.
  6. This is really where the position player portion of the roster is messed up. If Outman actually starts in left field, it moves Larnach to DH and Bell, a poor defender to first, and Clemens to the bench. Personally, I’d rather have Clemens hitting than Outman. As a matter of fact, I think I’d prefer Martin in left field rather than Outman or Larnach against right handers.
  7. Kreidler and Wagaman optioned to St. Paul this morning.
  8. Kreidler and Wagaman optioned this morning. That leaves Gray and Arcia for the utility infield spot. 34 remain in camp, so eight players need to be taken off the active roster.
  9. So, are you assuming one of Arcia and Kreidler is a lock? I think Austin Martin is a lock and it's a three-way competition for the backup infielder role.
  10. Agreed. The infield depth is paper thin. Lewis is a key guy, as are Lee and Wallner. They showed promise, but didn't deliver last year. If the Twins' offense is any good at all, at least two of those three have to be well above average hitters for their position.
  11. You're right about Pablo, but I don't believe you can backdate 60-day IL assignments. If Festa does go that list, he'd have to be out until the end of May.
  12. I'd like to see Martin get a shot against right handed pitching. Larnach appears to have regressed to awful as a left fielder and any extra runs he accounts for with his bat are negated by his baserunning and glove. It appears that the Twins will have 2-1 ratio at catcher and full time regulars in right and center plus four infielders (Bell splitting his starts between first and DH).
  13. Two hard-hit balls in three trips today.
  14. So backup infielder and relief pitcher slots are left to be filled. I don't know if the staff was impressed with Bowman today, but he has an opt-out that will activate if he doesn't make the team. Adams and Festa will go to the IL, Wagaman, Arcia (non-roster), Gray and Kreidler for one infield spot and Altavilla (non-roster), Bowman (non-roster), Laweryson (non-roster), and Kent for two RH reliever spots. Jackson will come off the 40-man if he doesn't make the team, other 40-man spaces are more murky.
  15. Bowman is literally pitching for a job today.
  16. Candidates for the last spot on the Twins' roster combine to score a run.
  17. Who is the guy that plays third when Lewis moves to short? The only guy they have with any experience at third (besides Lee) is Eric Wagaman. Is it worth disrupting Lewis and having less middle infield flexibility to add him? I honestly don't think so. The idea is to move the utility guys around, not the regulars unless your name is Willi Castro.
  18. Matthew Leach is reporting that Austin Martin will be playing in a game tomorrow. I think that unless there's a setback, he won't go on the Concussion IL.
  19. Sure, he has looked bad so far this spring, but the games and the stats don't count. If he starts the regular season 3-30, I'll be concerned.
  20. Altavilla hasn't been impressive since returning from the WBC. I wonder if serving up a homer to Chandler Simpson might seal his fate.
  21. I agree, but I think the Twins think there is something more than Outman has produced since his rookie year.
  22. Maybe it’ll get him going—Lewis hit a routine grounder that bounced over the shortstop’s glove for a cheap hit.
