  1. OK! Thank you Bell and Lee. Now we get to find out if the modifications to the bullpen are up to snuff! LFG!
  2. Wait, I saw a photo and Wacha throws with his right arm. Do league rules allow Twins opponents to do that? On that note, here's a personal message to Alan Roden: tick tock, my friend.
  3. I've seen occasional suggestions to list a franchise's top players under age X (25, say), as a better gauge of their future fortunes.
  4. Deleted, never mind. My alleged "insight" was based on a faulty analysis of the 2020 season.
  5. I skipped this thread when it first came out, but activity on it tonight caught my eye. I'm trying REALLY hard not to second-guess now that we have this follow-up news. But I want to say a couple of things. Someone brought up Buxton in this discussion, and Greene's remaining contract indeed resembles Buxton's. Moderately priced for a guy who (in their respective ways) can carry a team, "when healthy." The thing with Buxton, though, is that we signed him to the contract without having to give up any prospect capital. I mean, well, as a #2 overall pick, that represents prospect capital in a way. But far from the same. With Greene, we'd have to cover a rather similar contract, but also give up a haul of prospects. If I were a fan of another team, even if I like Buxton "in a vacuum" I'd be hard pressed to advocate to my team's FO that they give up a lot to get Byron. Huh. Aside from 10/5 trade protection, a hypothetical Buxton-Greene swap straight up would be a fun "challenge trade." The other thing that came to mind: it's fascinating to see posters' varying approaches to risk. Again, I say that as neutrally as I can, given recent news colors everyone's views about Greene. Risk (health is not the only one) lurks in every discussion of talent evaluation. For on the field performance we can look at measures such as RBIs or OPS or WAR - use them or dismiss them to our own tastes - but I can't think of anything remotely similar when it comes to judging risk. I got to chat for five minutes the other day with the Guardians' chief of analytics Keith Woolner (a very humble and engaging man), and he claimed to have no handle on this topic - perhaps he has a good poker face, perhaps he was being candid as he seemed about other topics during his panel discussion that morning at SABR.
  6. My fault. West coast time - had to step away for dinner. I'm sure I could have put on a rally cap or something to help the cause.
  7. There was an old man Said with a laugh, "I From Peru, whose lim'ricks all Cut 'em in half, the pay is Look'd like haiku. He Much better for two."
  8. Circular Arguments are best because nothing is better than an argument that is circular.
  9. Can Ryan Kreidler hit a ground ball that Ryan Kreidler would not be able to field?
  10. Why not? He can't hit it over the fence that way, and the force out removed him from the basepaths.
  11. Wait. We're ... given a choice in these matters? I will have to reconsider everything.
  12. If he's purposely setting something up for later in the game, or later in the season, more power to him. If it's a tell, hopefully one of his coaches explains to him what that is. 😄
  13. Okay, Kremer, they got you your run. Make it stand up.
  14. Royce Lewis can beat you in so many ways. Never thought I'd be typing that.
  15. I'll go obscure in a couple of dimensions and offer a nod to the Diet of Worley.
  16. Career minor leaguers get sects at most. Schisms at worst.
  17. If this is the last time his name is mentioned at this site, and least he went out with his name spelled correctly.
  18. An application has been filed at the state courthouse to form a Church of Kremer. Approval pending outcome of the rest of this game.
  19. I never like the answers my doctor gives me. They always involve terms like diet and exercise, and I didn't go to medical school so I never learned any Latin words.
