  1. Hey. You know military stragety. "When the enemy is in range, so are you." / cue for glunn to step in - "now now, let's not get into a...."
  2. Well, not that I'm especially playing can-you-top-that, but my wife and I worked for 10 years for a French company. Then my last year at IBM I barely dodged the bullet of being partnered with somebody in Bangalore. That woulda been swell.
  3. Fair enough. I never make fun of a man with bladder control issues.
  4. Another Twins run scored via the power game: infield single plus error, followed by the usual drill.
  5. My view too, even if he's Rickey Henderson on the basepaths. But Liam, the pitcher that day, was much too courteous to bring anything inside.
  6. You guys get your revenge with your damn 5 am conference calls.
  7. My recollection from seeing a game there last year is that he really crowds the plate too.
  8. I can think of two meanings to this: urine, or Antabuse. The good natured ribbing would end depending on which you meant.
  9. Very good. I owe you that drink. Bear in mind Brian's anecdote above though; I just learned that a road trip to the AFL this year is suddenly pretty unlikely for me.
  10. You couldn't find a strip club that stayed open later?
  11. As nasty as he wanna be? / speaking of cross-culture / i'll buy chief a drink when I'm in Phoenix if he can place the cultural reference there
  12. That was really underhanded. He thought he was betting against you. Not against Chief.
  13. How do you keep time to the music?
  14. No taking yourself in the pool!
  15. So, shall we start a pool on who in this thread will sign off first because it's a late night?
  16. Go as what? The Kool-Aid man?
  17. Correia, Willingham and Doumit were guys intended to bridge to the good players in the pipeline. If we can cut ties early with Doumit, then 2013 succeeded in at least this one way. Probably the same can be said about Willingham. Correia, unfortunately, looks like he has a bridging role to play for the 2014 squad.
  18. That was always the knock on Puckett of course, that he played so deep and could occasionally snare a ball headed over the fence but gave up a ton of singles in front of him. Hicks playing deep suggests a lack of confidence, not befitting a great defensive reputation when he came up. But I guess the gist of the article is that this is a wrong interpretation.
  19. OK, one thought. From here on out I want to see good results from the players who matter going forward. RBI single by Arcia in the first inning definitely qualifies.
  20. I'm out of thoughts, personally. / so, what else is new?
  21. 2013 was supposed to be a season of figuring out what we've got. I hope that the front office now can be decisive in the off-season, perhaps letting the trade market confirm what they think about their players (or conversely get more in return than they expect, for the guys they want to part ways with), and not let 40-man roster congestion ever be an excuse for personnel decisions going forward.
  22. Sympathizes: (Yeah, I'm basically just spelling out Parker's joke.) Way back in another age, I always felt that early-career Latroy Hawkins and especially Willie Banks would have been more successful if the umpires gave them half a chance. I don't know whether my one-sided fan's view would have been borne out by stats like Parker has pointed to here, though. Do these records get down to the level of pitch count? I suspect if the first-pitch calls are going against the Twins on a systematic basis it matters more than later on - the difference between 1-0 and 0-1 is pretty huge on how the rest of the PA comes out. With all the counts lumped together, maybe that's why a seemingly large disparity between two teams like the Twins and Brewers doesn't translate into much difference in results.
  23. Could a different pitching coach be the change-of-scenery he needs? I'm not in the Anderson Is Terrible camp, but sometimes a switch to someone else that is good but has a different approach could make a difference with the non-performers on the roster. The question about the 40-man slot is vexing of course - that roster is littered with marginal cases like Liam.
  24. You know the definition of insanity, right?
