Thoughts, but in a different style than Brian: Whenever one of your pitchers has a good inning, tell him "lucky inning". That way, he develops a good, lucky, feeling. To me, baseball is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit a baseball. It's easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more pitching. And I guess that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, wanting that pitching. I think Gardy's new thing should be to try to be a real happy guy. He'll just walk around, being real happy, at least until some jerk says Strike Three to one of his players. I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at batting practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to do take out slides into people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought, something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on. / with apologies to Jack Handy and his Deep Thoughts
