  1. Do I believe yet? No. For a variety of reasons, I expect them to come back to earth. Staying above .500 isn't a given. Put me down for 80 wins. That's a pessimistic view that I very much hope to be wrong about (to the upside), of course. Why? I'll go with, "teams have halves out of kilter with each other all the time."
  2. According to Seth's minor league leader board, Alex leads all Twins relief prospects (fewer than 3 starts) in innings, with 51, and he has the third best ERA at 1.41. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/19126-article-twins-minor-league-leader-board-through-july-10/
  3. According to Seth's minor league leader board, Engelb is tied for second in stolen bases among all Twins prospects, with 21 so far this season. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/19126-article-twins-minor-league-leader-board-through-july-10/
  4. According to Seth's minor league leader board, Felix is third among all Twins prospect starters with greater than 64 innings, with a 2.00 ERA, third in walks per nine innings at 1.8, and Number One in WHIP at 0.90. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/19126-article-twins-minor-league-leader-board-through-july-10/
  5. Per your subject line, Buxton and Sano are already out of the lower levels of the minors. I expect we're about in the middle of the pack, down there. It's only one part of the puzzle, though. I'm less interested in rankings of "prospects", whatever the level, and would be more interested in "talent under, say, the age of 28 throughout the system". I don't know of a publication (like BA, or Sickels) that does it this way.
  6. Just one of a series of astute pronouncements over the years, it turns out. A sampling: VodkaDave, on 12 Sep 2009 - 11:44 pm, said: Well, after a 4-2 loss to Oakland, the Twins record stands at 70-72. Stick a fork in 'em, they're done. Hopes for a divisional crown, even via a game-163 win, are so far-fetched as to defy belief. VodkaDave, on 4 Nov 2002 - 11:44 pm, said: I think the verdict is in, on this Joe Mauer. After a good start in Elizabethton last year with a .400 BA, he slumped badly to .302 in single-A Quad Cities. By the time he reaches the majors, it'll be down to .008. Why oh why didn't we draft sure-fire HOFer Mark Prior when we had the chance? VodkaDave, on 21 Apr 1985 - 11:44 pm, said: This Puckett guy is turning out to be a complete disappointment. He has yet to hit even one home run, and it's pretty definite he never will. If this is the best the team has in the pipeline, we aren't going to win any World Series in the next ten years. Book it! VodkaDave, on 23 Jun 1955 - 11:44 pm, said: Herman Killaber, or whatever his name is, is turning out to be a complete disappointment. He's batting .067 this year and has yet to hit even one home run. Cut him!
  7. Fourth possibility, his manager has been picking Cola's opportunities to avoid exposing him to situations he believes he won't do well in. / hope you can keep the pronouns straight
  8. "I was a bad kid." -- stolen from the first line of Babe Ruth's autobiography (which may have been the only book he ever read)
  9. Picky picky picky, but I was a Yankees fan at the time, and I remember 1965 differently. The season started out terribly for them, they got somewhat better but never made anything like a run at the pennant. So I looked it up. High water mark for them was 39-40. The game you remember (5-4 Yankees going into the bottom of the ninth, 2-run homer by Killer to reverse the margin) put the Yankees at a majestic 41-46 for the season at that point. The game was a turning point for the Twins' season, which was already off to a fine start, but it had little impact on the Yankees'. The fork was already stuck in 'em.
  10. Wait, wait, this is the new... so many Posts of the Night. So many....
  11. Wait, I changed my mind. New winner of Post of the Night.
  12. Post of the night. / as it turns out / I gotta stop going to bed at 10:30 on a Friday night / then again, if I was out on the town like I should be then I wouldn't be watching a game via Internet, so there's that
  13. Those aren't the body parts most of us would have picked, but to each his own.
  14. PM closer to the date and we'll work out the details.
  15. No, in honor of my wife taking a new job with Mathworks in Natick.
  16. Been dark for an hour here in eastern Massachusetts.
  17. 3 strikeouts in the 5th for JR? Niiiice.
  18. Damned if you do, damned if you don't....
  19. Not the only guy who gets Twins batters out, either.
  20. I believe you're describing your cousin, AvonRiverBard.
  21. Yeah, but try to find one to hire. They never answer the want ads.
  22. Riverbrian: I'm calling Sano.. I'll take dibs on that sampleSizeOfOne: I'll jump on Suzuki's back. He's drivin' the bus today! Er... Not literally of course... But, you know what i mean... Martinez (V), Cespedes, Martinez (J) seem to have stumped the panel tonight.
  23. Plate discipline or pitch recognition? Because if it's the former it seems like it could be changed by him making basically a decision, but if it's the latter then coaching an improvement seems much harder.
  24. You are correct. My bad, sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of his deafening awesomeness. http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/avatars/08/0817d241adbf64bf34c07dd62ed338b3f6c430b0_full.jpg
  25. About half of all AAA pitchers pitch in the PCL where ERAs are inflated, so I'm not sure this is the right place to draw the line when evaluating them.
