Okay, so bear with me on this one . . .
I know that TD has a connection to KFGO up in Fargo. (Shout out to @NoDakTwinsFan on his latest podcast entry.) Not to mention it's the Twins' radio flagship for the Red River Valley, as well as Dick Bremer and now Cory Provus have been weekly guests on the Jack Michaels Show for years.
Jack Michaels (Todd Clark) may not be a familiar name for those not from the area. He's been the long-time radio voice of the FM RedHawks. His signature homerun call has always been, "Track it down, Marge!!!" The story behind that is when Jack hit his first homerun for NDSU, as he was rounding the bases saw his mom, Marge, racing a bunch of kids to "track down" the ball as a memento of the event.
Recently Jack's mom passed away. Jack found out while the 'Hawks were in Wichita, KS, but he still called the game that night. After the fact he relayed that before the game one of the players expressed his condolences and said, "Maybe we'll get one for Marge tonight." That very same player hit a homerun in his first at-bat of the game. As he was crossing home plate he pointed up to the press box and then up to the sky.
What was the point of all this? I guess to say that baseball and life are funny games.
Here is KFGO's tribute to Marge. Here's hoping she's still tracking down homers wherever she is . . .
