  1. Just to nitpick, payroll was 97 million in 2010 and went to 112 million in 2011 and we all saw how that turned out. Before the free spenders all over-react I'm just pointing out a fact not defending the Twins lack of spending this off-season. Although as long as we're pointing fingers, to not implicate the Pohlads as part of payroll going down is pretty naive.
  2. Well, one positive on Diamond having surgery is missing this thing...........not for Canada.......not that it was going to make a difference for us or anything.
  3. Speaking of talking poorly to people....
  4. I quite agree with this viewpoint, I think the 3 year+ deals has been de regueur this off season for mid to front line starters and it's effected some initial decisions. With year 1 being optimistically at best a 4th place finish why go 3? Wait until next year (maybe even 2015) and consider 3 year deals at that point, closer to when the team is potentially going to start heading in the right direction. At least we then stand some chance of them being here in the midst of something with potential. This isn't to excuse the FO for this off season, more could have been done to help the team be more competitive than it appears it's going to be, without having to go big before they wanted to.
  5. Like that's any worse than Inge and Betty?
  6. I'm hoping Fien improves on what we saw last year, the k rate is a nice thing. I think Robertson will improve, cut down on his walk rate and there is lots to like about him. For the love of god can we just see Slama already and get it over with one way or another. I'd love it if Pressley became what Swarzak should be. If so, I can't see getting anything for Swarzak if he doesn't get a roster spot, the vultures will be waiting. They would need to decide now. Be interesting to see what they do with Harden, can't see his arm holding up as a starter although that would be nice. Burnett is maddeningly inconsistent and I agree with Shane in that he could use some Rochester time. If Duensing can just stay in the pen this year he is very effective, he was lights out last April and May before he was shifted to the rotation and after that he was a human yo-yo, I don't think that helped him. His velocity in relief is impressive. Wood and Roenicke in the mix will make things interesting and Oliverios and Guerra can't be far off. Obviously Perkins and Burton are givens. The arms are there, a lot needs to go right but there appears to be enough to work with.
  7. All in good fun. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/drink/trink39.gif
  8. The fuzzy wuzzy forum isn't open yet, don't hold your breath.
  9. Sorry, I unintentionally used my Jedi mind powers to force you to open this thread and read every post.
  10. How on earth can you make that claim?
  11. Tell that to Stanford, luck of the Irish? Right.
  12. Musburger jacking off over her almost made me vomit in my beer.
  13. I'm giving away my age but I remember that episode vividly, Letterman in his prime! Forster was a Fat Tub of Goo though. Felton was bad but I might have to vote Butera Jr. ......just because.
  14. Yes I do realize that but thanks for taking the time to be a d**k. I was para-phrasing, I think you know that. I'm not talking about the words he used in his interview with John, I'm talking about his most recent words and I'll agree with you that those ones are nothing but a disingenuous spin job. To me, at this point he is spinning what he should of been spinning in November. At some point he changed track or maybe that was the track all along, I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know why but I'm guessing it did change when Meyer was floated for Span and even further when Worley and May came up for Revere. Again, I'm not saying you don't have a right to be upset but we all knew it was a tall order to begin with and once he found himself with three pretty decent arms under the age of 26 it was time to look further ahead. Or not, I don't know but I'm ok with giving him another year, maybe then I'll join the parade.
  15. I don't recall saying it wasn't, you always seem to spin an opposite viewpoint as meaning you don't have a right to have yours, it's curious. The TV is a bit of a stretch, a strawman really, one is pretty simple (selling discounted TV's), the other is open to interpretation depending on who the listener is. In your case, you're an educated baseball fan and know Ryan is selling a bill of goods by stating the rotation is fortified, the casual fan actually might believe it. I never was really all in on buying it from the beginning but I understood the spin, after the Span and Revere trades it was pretty evident the way things were headed. I get being upset but to think Ryan should have or was ever going to come out to the general public and say "we're going to suck next year but just wait", was never going to happen and not very realistic. Read between the lines and Ryan is indicating this year will be a stretch to be competitive but they want to get there and they've started to do that for down the road. He may be done this year but he never indicated he's done period.
  16. I'll remain hopeful something might still happen, I'm not naive enough to think that it will but I'm ok with waiting before I open my big mouth. I'm also ok with Terry Ryan still running this ship, I'm not one who is overly offended by being "lied" to by Ryan regarding the 2013 season, the chances that his words were doublespeak were always rather high so I never put 100% faith in them to begin with. I'm disappointed a bit that 2013 won't be better than I may have hoped, but from the day Span was traded and then Revere, it became pretty clear the team was looking beyond this year. I was always willing to give Ryan more than a year or two to right the ship and I think the moves he has made so far will help to accomplish that in the near future. I also believe more moves along those line will be made during this season, largely involving Morneau and Willingham. Anything else that may happen is largely dependent on the play of players such as Plouffe, Parmelee, Benson and Dozier. Was I ''lied" to? Meh, mislead maybe but whatever, it's pro sports, it's the nature of the business and part of the balancing act required for guys like Ryan and St. Peter. I think this team will be pretty good in a couple of years and I'll look forward to that, the mess was never really going to be cleaned up quickly, despite what was said, but I still think much has already been done to make the team better, I can live with that.
  17. Their source of info is obviously Twins Daily.
  18. Lol, so true, the actual title game should have been the rematch and probably would have been if not for ND's independent schedule. Two straight years of an all SEC championship would have sent Rick Reilly and the BIG 12 and PAC 10 people right over the edge though, despite the SEC winning the last 7 titles.
  19. They did?
  20. I don't think so, they just never faced an opponent of that class, the Tide faced tougher teams throughout conference play. Notre Dame is built on hype and historic sentiment, another "independent" fluffed up schedule to make themselves look better than they are. It worked though, no way that team should have been No.1 over the team that just steamrolled them.
  21. Being exposed for the frauds they are, as are the BCS rankings. Maybe they should dig up Knute and the Gipper.
  22. And moreover it's been ridiculously patronizing.
