  1. Atlanta had arguably the best pitching staff of the 90's, winning 6 Cy Young awards, they reached the WS 5 times and won only once. That's a good reflection on the fickleness of playoff baseball.
  2. Well, I might talk funny but you guys brought the world, spandex, George W Bush and...........................light beer!!!!!!
  3. And even more conversely, Mauer critics often cite his lack of "intangibles" as a way to denigrate him, despite all the hard "tangilbles" that actually show he is a great baseball player.
  4. I've always felt this is a bit of a myth, the Blue Jays aren't nearly the National team as some seem to believe they are. In fact Morneau being a Jays fan is a bit odd, being from BC, they have as many Mariner fans as they do Jays fans. Here in Manitoba, Twins merch is as visible, if not arguably more so that Jays merch and people on the East Coast have an affinity for the Red Sox, it's much more regional. The Expos were always the more sentimental Canadian choice when they were around, it has to do with most people outside of Toronto hating Toronto, it's kind of a New York thing. I'd much rather see Brett Lawrie playing for the Twins than the Blue Jays.
  5. If you cant discern it, how do you know that, are you a mystic?
  6. They must have loved having a smart ass, condescending jerk coaching their children. I'm going to try this when coaching my son's team this year, should make me really popular.
  7. Exactly right, intangibles are a way for organizations to make excuses for poor personnel decisons, despite all the evidence to the contrary,"we know something about this player that actually makes them valuable, we just can't tell you exactly what that is, but trust us, it's there".
  8. http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/swearing/i-hate-you-smiley-emoticon.gif......................what's this about again?
  9. Where's that damn Like feature when you need it.
  10. http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/praying/smileys-praying-929024.gifI believe, I believe, I believe....
  11. This means war.....http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/battle/tank.gif http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/battle/tank.gif http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/battle/tank.gif http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/battle/tank.gif http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/battle/tank.gif
  12. Another reason for me to love Minnesota, picks up 2 including the winner tonight, the guy can fly!
  13. You don't end up with those kind of numbers through simply underachieving and poor managing, you get them by not being talented enough. I'd like to get back to where we were but not what we were, we need deeper talent next time around. Having said that, the next time may just be one of those "lightning in a bottle" times that characterize the playoffs.
  14. Blackburn, Maloney and Hughes are the poster children for Spring Training stats being meaningless. I hope we don't see Hughes redux this year with Dozier, regardless of his stats in ST they need to stick with him throughout a good portion of the season to get the best idea if he's the guy.
  15. Moderator!!!!!
  16. Good find Nurse, this quote is pretty much exactly what I was saying before, put yourself in position and then strive for the pinnacle. "It's tough. We've had a lot of success here, and we really haven't played that well the last couple seasons. It's frustrating, and we're trying to get back to what we're used to and that's going to the playoffs and trying to get to our ultimate goal of winning a World Series. We haven't been playing very well, but hopefully we can turn that around."
  17. Hammer is being patronizingly anti-Winnipeg and Physics Guy is reinforcing Canadian stereotypes, they need to be moderated and possibly, temporarily banned, I'm offended. Wait a minute.....I see what you did there! Where's Glunn when you need him?
  18. Everyone strives to win it all, first you need to strive to be able to put yourself in that position on a consistant basis. Ryan and Gardy did just that and when their teams did, only an outright fool would believe they weren't striving to win it all. His teams quit on him? That's a grand, agenda driven assumption with no basis in fact or common sense. I have no issue with you wanting these guys fired but stop just making s**t up.
  19. When is his TJ surgery scheduled for?
  20. Hey, Hey, Hey, what's that supposed to mean?
  21. I don't disagree with any of this, I was just responding to your initial question above, which you have now slightly altered. It just points out that there have been many coaches and managers that have lasted despite not winning it all and rightfully so. Like I said, Im not necessarily advocating Gardy should stay, I just said that there are plenty of examples of long term coaches sticking that failed to meet what so people believe to be the gold standard. By the same token, there are probably just as many coaches who have won championships that bought them way too much currency to stick around unsuccessfully afterwards.
  22. Those seats are fun, especially that close to the fence, as would 128, 129 and 130. Sections 237-239 give you a little better vantage point for the game, although deep balls to centre and right are a bit obstructed, you can see the scoreboard much better though. No shortage of fun places to go before and after the game, Kieran's is right across the street, great outdoor patio if the weather is nice and good beer selection, Huberts right at the field, The Alley (formerly Smalley's) usually has game day specials,do some lawn bowling on the roof of Brit's Pub and have a few pints.....that's all within walking distance and just a start. Have fun!
  23. Most of those coaches struggled in their final year, a couple of them the last two. I don't think the downward trend the last two season's are on Gardy, I'm OK with the "it may be time for a change" movement but not based on the last two years, especially considering the SP we've had. As far as the length of tenure of the other coaches approaching that of Gardy, with one team, Sloan coached the Jazz for 22 years, Lindy Ruff coached the Sabres for 16 years, Bud Grant coached the Vikes for 18 years, Reid was the Head man with the Eagles for 13 seasons and Schembechler coached at Michigan for 21 years. Levy, Reeves and Knox all had about the same tenure as Gardy has now.
  24. "We'll see how he goes about swinging a bat"? We've already seen it Ron, it ain't pretty.
