  1. This was always going to be the plan, I don't think his performance this spring was ever going to play a factor.
  2. Great news, I'm a big Summit fan, I usually bring a few cases home after every visit. Wish I could get it here, I'll have to talk to those fellas about their export business.
  3. Depends of the grade of calf strain, not nearly as b&w situation as you paint it, but when you possess no objectivity on such things, it usually results in misinformation to make your point.
  4. All this becase of a calf strain? In Spring Training?
  5. The run differential rule has to go, it by default breaks one of the unwritten codes of the game and obviously the players hold that closer to them then being embarrassed, tiebreak or no tiebreak. Trust Canada to start a hockey brawl at an international event. At least they couldn't turn the lights out at this one.
  6. Yeah those miracle caoches in Chicago sure made Gardy and Andy look bad. Quite a bumper crop they pulled out of him.
  7. I guess I would fall into a bit of #1 and a bit of #2. Not from a taxpayers perspective, seeing as I'm not a resident, but from a fan's perspective that would like to see them live up to their 50% of revenue to payroll commitment, it's frustrating that they neglect that. #2 doesn't come from any belief that Ryan can't rebuild, quite the opposite, I believe strongly that he can. I just feel disenchanted about him dropping anchor on this season despite words to the contrary last October and the fact I don't believe it was necessary or that it would have jeopordized anything in the future. It's ok to be critical, it doesn't make you negative, or less of a fan, and there is nothing wrong with questioning others opinions to make sure they stand up to some basic logic. It also doesn't make you vitriolic.
  8. You're quite the pop psychologist, don't quit your day job.
  9. I applaud your unbridled optimism, your MI outlook takes that word to new levels.
  10. He's could be the next Luke Hughes at this rate.
  11. Revere thrown out stealing 2nd by Herrmann.
  12. Gibson didn't look like he very good stuff today, fastball was all over the place, changeup was good a few times but otherwise pretty iffy. A few bad breaks as well though but he wasn't missing many bats.
  13. Great blog, I too can't wait for the season to start, I can't wait to get back to TF and I'm not even a masochist.
  14. See,there you go, that's why the HR's would be wasted, the priority for a solid Gardy #2 is bunting. Can't sacfrifice RISP with actual runs.
  15. Lol, that's not quite what I meant but I get the point, http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/fighting/slap-in-the-face.gif. The mid 2000's Johnson would serve just as well or better that the '09 version at #2 or lead-off. The point in the discussion was that high OBP guys who are big and slow are likely more valuable in those spots than speedy guys who can't get on base much in the first place. But I deserve the abuse, keep it coming.
  16. Damn, I can't believe I missed this thread. For what it's worth I think we're going a little overboard on the whole civil obedience thing, if someone can't take having their feet held to the fire for making fairy tale projections that can't logically be substantiated then they should think twice about posting such things. I've read every post in here and really can't define much that could be interpreted as "personal attacks". I agree with some posters here that it is important to maintain the credibility of the site with properly researched and substantiated projections and ideas. Tossing out fantastic, fanboy predictions and trying to justify them as legitimate projections doesn't lend itself to this site being a place for reasoned, in-depth baseball analysis, it's just making stuff up.
  17. Agree on the Escobar part, he'll not only hit a bit better than Pedro (although nothing significant), he'll be a better glove as well.
  18. Hmmmm, that would be interesting to consider. I think the mid 2000's Johnson flashed enough HR power to not be wasted in the two hole but a 2009 version maybe. in '09 he scored 1 run more than Revere did last year in roughly 20 more PA's. He stole 38 less bases but posted an OBP almost 100 points higher than Ben. Maybe Washington or Florida cold have scored even more runs with Johnson hitting 2 or even lead off.
  19. This all seems so familiar.....................http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSSk5A1Ps5pKgleZwOFIVfQ5AA7sT05HP4Tn62GfmkzDypthGRPvw
  20. Swagger lives in two neighbourhoods, the arrogance neighbourhood and the confidence neighbourhood. I think all top athletes possess swagger, they know they're good. Guys like Willingham, Perkins, Morneau, they have swagger, they have a quiet, I'm going to kick your ass vibe about them, they're not demonstrative about it, they live in the confidence neighbourhood and fans love them. The Danny Valencia, Matt Garza and Alex Rodriguez types usually display their swagger in a self-centered, look how good I am fashion (not that Valencia had much to swag about), they live in the arrogance neighbourhood and didn't get enough attention from their fathers, fans tpically loathe them. It's ok to have swagger, let's hope Berrios just displays his the way most of us appreciate.
  21. Yep, having someone on base to advance more often is a better scenario than Joe coming up with nobody on and 1 out.
  22. If he gets his innings in and his shoulder seems fit, how can you not start him with this rotation? If he can perform decently through June I can see him garnering some value in trade. If not, he has a place in 2014 for sure, all 5 of Diamond, Gibson, Hendriks, Meyer and May will not be up in 2014, before September at least.
  23. You're right about Frankie, forgot about him (not that it makes the Devries arguement any different). Blackburn did appear in 4 games and pitch 17 innings though, almost as much as Frankie and posted a 2.12 ERA, so just as irrelevant.
  24. Blackburn was our best pitcher last ST, try looking at that.
  25. I feel like I've been here before....http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSSk5A1Ps5pKgleZwOFIVfQ5AA7sT05HP4Tn62GfmkzDypthGRPvw
