  1. I am curious as to who would be willing to trade pitching at this point?
  2. Also.... Garza should get 5 years Nolasco should get at least 4 with option Arroyo looks like he will get 3 years if you read mlbtraderumors and the pioneer press I think my preference would be in order Garza, Arroyo, Nolasco Arroyo is even more realistic if SF is really out of the picture now as they did want 2 back end pitchers. I would think they want an even lower cost 5th starter though.
  3. I would be so ecstatic that i would want to follow the Twins example and spend some money on season tickets even though i dont live in Minnesota.
  4. If I remember correctly the Twins were trying to get Liriano to throw the Slider less and fastball more to protect the elbow and Liriano's future. I think this year Liriano went back to throwing the slider more. If I were the Pirates I would watch his innings if your going to let him pitch that way. Its only a matter of time before he gets hurt again. I think Liriano is hoping to get one more big contract before that happens. But obviously the risks are far greater with the higher Slider load.
  5. The people in Hennepin county paid a price to help put the Twins in a positions where we can see them do something that is extremely rare or actually never in team history after all of the Calvin Griffiths years of selling off players and even the Pohlads only retaining players or signing Minnesota players at the end of their careers. There is a level of excitement about that fact that the Twins are able to and I am going to put this in parenthesis as its not totally "irrationally" spend and acquire a huge talent instead of letting it go will be a huge boost to morale in Minneapolis as this is something the Twins have never done period ... since 1961 when have the Twins signed a top talent that is not from here for multiple years for top dollars???? VS how many times have we seen that top talent go? I really think that Minnesota needs this type of signing for their Psyche more than anything else.
  6. I would subtract the guys stats who are being replace and add the guys stats coming in and make an adjustment for the fact that the new guys probably have more innings then the outgoing group. Then look at the runs scored vs runs allowed formula to see where our record would be.
  7. Drew would be a minimal upgrade (more offense and less defense) at a cost of 10 millionish per season. I think the goal is for the upgrade to be huge if we have to pay that much like signing a 200 inning pitcher who can have a sub 4.00 era vs a 6.00+ era back of the rotation crap we had last season. I think SS would be better served if we make sure we have a backup on the cheap that can hit a little. If Bartlett can play SS still he may well be a better upgrade if Florimon slumps too much at a fraction of the cost of Drew.
  8. If the Twins have sucha good relationship with the agent once they get priced out of their market they could be trying to help drive up the value for them the way the Redsox tried to help the Twins drive up the value of Santana back in 08 for us to trade them to someone other than the Yanks.
  9. A ticket out of town???
  10. I don't have the link but mlbtraderumors.com has the Twins signing Kazmir on their top 50 projections. they were right about 40% of the time last year so this will be fun to watch play out.
  11. Any pitcher that can give you 200+ innings at slightly better than league average on a short term contract is a no brainer to sign even if its an overpay. With a starting pitcher like that and our bullpen being way better than average, we are positioned to win more games than we loose with him as long as we get league average offense. Now we just need to duplicate that 5 times instead of wanting to pin it all on one expensive high risk all in pitcher. It doesn't matter if the pitcher is Arroyo or Santana or Pelfry (I doubt he will pitch much if any better than average but still)...if we can have a team era better than average for the 1500 inning season and score league average offense we should have a winning season. As far as Arroyo is concerned, if the Twins want him for 2 years maybe 13-14 million per to get it done or add a 3rd season or option that's reachable.....We add some one like Kazmir and that's 400 innings of 3.80-3.90 era for our rotation which is huge. someone should add up how much the 4th and 5th starters gave up last year and compare to what these 2 should give up and see how many runs we are likely to shave off of last seasons total all other being equal.
  12. Pelfry throws what 94. That didn't help much last year. Not saying I would reconsider resigning him but his ERA was over 5.00.
  13. If the Twins get Arroyo then Kazmir is a perfect compliment to him as you go from soft tossing righty to strikeout lefty to Dedunno to soft tossing righty Corriea to ? I figure the Twins will either go for him or Maholm even though Maholm is also a soft tosser.
  14. Having a pitcher who is capable of winning everytime out is a good thing. I hope we get 2 pitchers. If we get him that's 50% of the goal. We get another one and I guess a catcher now, we should be able to compete for a .500 record or better next year. Especially if the young hitters take a step forward.
  15. Signing Arroyo would be a relief because we all know he is at least adequate. So now its on to who is the next pitcher. I like Kazmir cause he's a lefty and K's people. We will probably get Maholm or Campuano who are lefty but doesn't k as much. That still equals a decent rotation especially with our bullpen remember the blueprint for success I shared earlier on how Twins construct a winner.
  16. 25 hits shy of 1000 or Jamey Carroll
  17. I can see us spending in the neighborhood of up to 15/16 million per season on a 3/4 year contract for 1 player. I do not see us going much, if any higher than that. I have our ceiling pegged at Nolasco and more likely Arroyo and or Kazmir. All 3 of those pitchers get the job done. So one of those 3 probably Arroyo at this point is likely to be signed by us. Kazmir is who I think we should go after on a 2 year deal. I can also see us signing a project player or trade (if we can match up with someone).
  18. Knowing the Twins they are going to go after shorter term deals if they can. I saw a Pioneer article detailing Krvisky being the one who brought Arroyo over to the Reds. I can see that turning into a 2-3 year contract or 2 year with option. The other obvious smart short term contract is Kazmir. Nolasco = Brad Radke. You know the Twins would like to sign him. They wanted to trade for him a few years ago. The only issue with him is I think he likes California better. I see the Twins signing 2 of these 3 with Kazmir being their third option only due to relationships with the other players/ agents. It would be cool if the Twins sign Santana. If the management reads this board and gauges the rest of Minnesota's affinity for him I think it would make sense seeing how well respected he is here = (more tickets sold and greater fan interest) Nolasco Arroyo Dedunno Correia Santana, Albers, Gibson, Meyer, Diamond, Logan then maybe Worely Nolasco is going to be able to be more successful here because of our bullpen. He should have very similar results to what Radke had here. Someone in the rotation will eventually miss a few starts so these other pitchers will still get some opportunities if they don't make the rotation. This is a rotation that is at least competitive provided the defense and offense do their parts and Corriea pitches like he did last year. We know the bullpen should be above average resulting in an above average pitching staff ERA.
  19. I see 4/60 as being a realistic possibility for Nolasco so trying for that 5th year and an extra million isn't too far of a stretch.
  20. I think there is definitely the potential to match up for a trade if they do not sign Cano and don't trade for Phillips first.
  21. I get that we have escobar/ Bernier/ Australian IF whose name escapes me. I think it would be something to consider have someone who can play sold defense at 3b in the later innings or occasionally spelling whoever is starting. Also since Florimon has a weak bat it might be a good idea to have someone who could step in should he be hitting .190 at the allstar break. I said Punto being half serious as he would work for what I am suggesting but it would make sense to have someone that could handle that. while I think Escobar can handle most of the defense I do not think he could handle the bat for a stretch. There really isn't anyone able to successful be able to step into SS for an extended period if need be. What happens if Florimon gets hurt? I am not suggesting a starter. Just someone that can hit around .250/.330/.370 off the bench and field at a better than league average rate.
  22. This post may be nitpicking a little but an area of concern that hasn't been talked about much is finding a backup IF that can hit a little and play good defense at SS and 3B. Both Plouffe and Sano have below average gloves comming into next season so it would be nice to have a solid late game defensive replacement for them. Also with Florimon having a below average at bat it would be nice to have a solid back up to sub for a bit while Florimon figures things out with the bat. I would like to see us sign Punto for that purpose as he would be great if kept under 200 AB for the season. I do not believe Escobar has the bat for this assignment.
  23. I am going to go with Nolasco and Kazmir, then maybe Arroyo if they get 3 starters with Feldman as a back up option. The benefit of Kazmir is he is a lefty and only looking for a 2 year deal. Pay an extra 2 million and be done at 2/18 or 2/20. I think we could get Nolasco with a 5 year deal but i dont think the Twins will go over 4. Arroyo will be good for 2 seasons maybe 3. 2/25 or 3/36. Still money for a 1B and back up IF who can play good defense at SS and 3B and a Johan Santana make good contract...
  24. Durabilty is important too. if you can't pitch close to 200 innings are4 you really helping the team if Devries has to get called up to fill in for you? That is why Nolasco or an innings eater is a good idea. I do like the pitchers you mentioned too and the Twins should sign one from your list of 3.
  25. I thought Hughes had a 6+ era last year and Arroyo is 36. MLB traderumors has Hughes down for a 1 year 8 million. The Twins won't overpay much for Vargas. they are throwing all kinds of names down letting pitchers know that they are interested. The Twins are waiting to see what the market will be for each pitcher before they start signing more than likely. MLB Traderumors has that Arroyo has mutual interest in signing with the Twins. Which makes this a realistic possibility as 1 of the 2 or 3 starters they sign this offseason.
