  1. There is nothing you can do about it. Mike Myers steals material all the time.
  2. They seem like the same player at the plate to me. Stay tuned as we gather more information. I'm told that if you spend enough time looking at them, eventually you can tell the difference between Mary Kate and Ashley.
  3. I actually feel it is kind of important to give him some games this year in the OF to take a look because Mauer might come back and being able to throw him in the OF helps insure the OF. I don't know what kind of outfielder he would make but I'd like to find out. If he is (Sano like) out there... just stop the experiment. I'll tell you this. If they believe that he will be a defensive liability in the OF and don't even want to try. I'm not going to buy it until I see it for myself. I don't trust the people who decide these things right now. Here are 8 reasons that I don't trust them to decide and demand to see it for myself. 1. They thought Nishioka was major league quality. 2. They thought Plouffe was a SS because he made his debut as a SS after playing SS throughout the Minors. 3. They thought Dozier was a SS because he made his debut as a SS after playing SS throughout the minors. 4. They didn't think Sano could play 3B 5. They thought Sano could play RF 6. They didn't think Polanco could play SS 7. They thought Grossman was passable in the OF 8. They didn't think Astundillo could play catcher.
  4. Gardy? Is that you?
  5. I have no idea but like I’ve been saying... Molitor does seem to like locking people into roles so I can’t dismiss this explanation. But... my response would be. The equipment can come off when needed.
  6. I would never sign a DH only. On my team... DH would be used to provide playing time for my significant depth. If I have Escobar, Sano and (Austin or Mauer) and they are all playing well. I got 3B, 1B and DH covered. If I sign Cruz (and I'm not opposed)... Cruz is going play some OF because playing Cruz as a DH only... Well that would make my flexibility inflexible.
  7. Yes, you would take the blame but you might be inclined to not rely on their counsel the next time in an attempt to not make the same mistake again. The front office can and should take the blame but they also need to correct it for the future. Although... I've said this many times... I have no idea who is suggesting what. So this all goes strictly into the hypothetical pile.
  8. It's the same page thing that has me the most perplexed. If the roles are sharply defined. If the GM is in charge of the roster and the manager manages the provided roster. There has to be communication at every step of the process between them. A GM can't independently trade Jose Berrios for Paul Goldschmidt only to find that the manager doesn't believe in Paul Goldschmidt and won't play him. That would be giving away Berrios. They say decisions are done by committee... I believe them.
  9. It was I that brought up Morrison and Buxton... To be clear... I don't recall you ever bringing up Morrison and Buxton.
  10. If I had to make a decision today... I don't but if I had to make a decision today. Actually, I'll never have to make the decision... OK... But If I had to make a decision today. I'm putting Austin on the 25 Man Roster and signing Escobar to join Sano and I'm saying 3B/1B is covered. If Mauer decides to come back... What you do with Austin is much more complicated. I'd like Molitor to play Austin in the outfield some THIS YEAR! See if he can play some OF in case Joe is back. Do you hear me PAUL?
  11. I'll take command every time but a guy with stuff can work on command and improve it with better mechanics. I think it's much harder to improve your stuff. So I always look for the guy with stuff first. Gonsalves doesn't seem to have a lot of room for error if he doesn't hit his spots. If Stewart doesn't hit his spots... his stuff can still turn it into a weak grounder. He has a lot of movement on that fastball.
  12. Obviously way too early to make any determinations but after two starts. I like Kohl Stewart’s stuff and I am concerned about Gonsalves’s stuff. Plenty of time for my mind to be changed. Keep giving them opportunity.
  13. I don’t know much about the prospects they acquired but I watched a couple of Yankees Games and Austin made me look him up. The ball jumped off his bat and I thought to myself immediately “who is this guy”. I’m not predicting an all-star nomination or even a career but if he improves that plate discipline... the ball will rocket off his bat and that usually turns out good. I remain optimistic.
  14. I can tolerate mistakes. I can’t tolerate doubling down on the mistake. If Grossman was selected to make the 25 man. He should have played more with Morrison and Buxton both playing extremely bad. If Grossman isn’t good enough to play in front of that type of performance... then I’m extremely disappointed with the entire room.
  15. Tyler Austin hit .224 with the Yankees. Since joining us he has raised his batting average to .245 The best way to make sure he hits .224. Sit him when he is swinging good.
  16. I've actually got an OPS of 1.015 in a Twins uniform. At this moment in time... He is our best hitter. Yeah... Small Sample Size of course. So... I assume that he will bat 8th in the order and sit against most right-handers.
  17. Hey I'm all for the flexibility and believe in the value that brings. However, that's my view of flexibility. Coming from Molitor "value" and "utility role" means he will be sitting on the bench. To me... he looked like a catcher last night. He looked enough like a catcher that I'm wondering about those previous 18 games in July. He wasn't utilized as a catcher in his previous call up so foolishly I was assuming that he had a problem squatting or he put his chest protector on backwards or something. He just rode the bench mostly. His only starts were at 3B, 2B and DH. He played more CF than he did C. Wilson got 35 AB's and Astundillo got 17 AB's during that stretch.
  18. I look at this way. A baseball front office runs much differently than how I run my fantasy baseball team. I am willing to bet my house that Terry Ryan authorized the signing of players that he has never seen on the advice of someone else. I believe I'll still be living in my house because I've heard him on the radio say that he hadn't seen a player before he was added to the roster so it's a pretty safe bet for me. I've heard Falvey say that they take a committee approach to decisions and I got to believe that Molitor is part of that committee. If a manager says I want this guy and the GM says... No. That is the beginning of the end and I imagine the same goes in reverse. We all saw what happened when Philip Seymour Hoffman wouldn't play Scott Hatteberg. Hoffman was out and his next movie only did 28 Million at the box office.
  19. Understood... I've often said... you gotta look at the people who hire the people. Still not comfortable with the word "stuck".
  20. Can you be sure that Molitor wasn't in the room advocating Grossman on the roster? I can't... so I'm not comfortable with "stuck". I'd like to blame Molitor or the front office for everything but I can't be sure where the decisions we see are coming from.
  21. Our... Kopech is right handed and Rodon is left handed.
  22. I agree. I've wanted the Twins to get bullpen serious for quite some time. No sense getting bullpen serious when someone in the room is recommending Belisle and someone is riding three guys with the same numbers as three other guys that he is shy about using.
