  1. Garver's slugging percentage may slip below 1.000 some day... http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_md59pfy6f91rrpsd7.gif
  2. I am… so glad you went with this comment between meals.
  3. So he's already in midseason form in terms of consistency, at least.
  4. Norris got away with three straight 88 mph fastballs that caught varying amounts of the plate before Cron grounded out on the 81 mph slider. So Daniel's not quite got the velocity of his cousin Chuck, who once threw a grenade that killed 20 bad guys, and then exploded.
  5. Well done, Gretzky would be envious.
  6. It's a far cry from last year when we were wondering if it was to early to send him down.
  7. He's a cyborg and the mitt is for removing his battery if it goes above its thermal limit.
  8. I do not like his arm at third, I do not like it near a bird, I do not like it with some curds, I do not like it with some nerds, You have my oath, you have my word! I don't like Marwin's arm at third!
  9. Bat around and get JP the cycle again!!
  10. At least they didn't spell his last name "Pennsylvania".
  11. Yes, but that's why we love you. Sorry, couldn't help it. I'm not going all in on Buxxy yet, but I'm happy to see him start the season just not looking overmatched like last year, and if he can build on that... awesome.
  12. Adalberto is Spanish for "Friend to beer sellers".
  13. The way the Twins' bullpen has been in recent history, it's a good sign for Harper (or any Twins reliever, ftm) when people don't remember him pitching. On a related note, Mejia is starting to become... memorable. PS Mejia's sparkling 2.01 ERA last season came with an ominous 5.40 xFIP and K/BB that was barely above sea level. Entering the game tonight his ERA was... 5.40.
  14. Schooperman ditches kryptonite batting helmet, opts for Plan A.
  15. The weird thing is that his average and power are bad, but his OBP is so much higher than last season that his wRC+ is only a little worse than last year (77 vs 80). If he can play good D and eventually get the bat going by the time one or two other hitters inevitably cool off, then I'm not gonna worry. If the D isn't there and he's still scuffling along with a sub-.300 slugging average at the end of May... then I think I'll be schooped out.
  16. Grum has been saving up home runs to hand out. Now he's throwing them out to the Twins like candy at a parade. Edit: Also, the Twins are better at hitting the baseball than they were last year.

Alternate headline: "Vertically wealthy man tells the poor to go **** themselves, threatens assault". Sorry man, I couldn't resist. Depending on how much you trust your people skills, you can try this: If an exit row seat isn't available, get one behind an exit row seat. Nine+ times out of ten, the person in front of you will be shorter, right? So just politely ask them if they're willing to trade seats so that your long legs don't accidentally bump their seat throughout the flight. Do it while you're staring (but totally not menacingly) down at them from the aisle.
  18. I'm not only not averse to change, I would say that evolving culture, conditions, and technology virtually demand it. But one of my concerns stems from isolating and focusing on individual factors as universal, virtually infallible indicators of good/bad or fair/unfair outcomes. An example: If my annual income goes up 10% relative to the cost of living index, I probably had a good year, right? But if we're making income inequality a critical yardstick of prosperity, that same year was a disaster of biblical proportions if Bill Gates' income went up 20%. For what it's worth, not only do I not claim to have all the answers, I would say that I have almost all questions and no answers at this point. But what I do have are concerns, and one of those is that when I hear "inequality" without strong context, I'm very, very worried that it's tied to outcome and not opportunity.
  19. The correct reaction of the interviewer: "You drove THAT to get to the interview?!? You're hired!!!"
  20. If it's any consolation, your investment in your education carries both a lower risk and a higher upside than most of the stock tips we motleys can come up with. Yes, it sounds like an awkward Hallmark card, but it's also true.
  21. 1. I stated correctly, making no claim of causation, that universal loss of wealth among the wealthy was synonymous with the Great Depression. 2. You stated that I jumped to a conclusion, one which you graciously imagined and laid out for me, but which is utterly absent from what I wrote. 3. ? Honestly, I have no idea what you expect to happen next.
  22. I'm hoping that you're not saying that wealthy people losing that wealth is a good thing. Because historically that was a notably unawesome thing called The Great Depression. It's hard for me to tell for sure, but it feels like the case you're making in favor of financial disaster befalling those you deem unworthy of their wealth might be linked somehow to your empirically false notion that our nation's tens of trillions worth of private investment in corporations does nothing to contribute to the economy.
  23. However shaky it can be at times, the rationale for income tax is at least partially based on the idea that our nation's infrastructure plays a pretty important part in most businesses' ability to function. The rationale for property tax is based at least in part on the idea that you should pay something for that street that hooks you up to the rest of the city. And so on. That's not my assertion, it's Obama's. His party agreed wholeheartedly. And on some level, I agree. And by that same standard, inheritance that is not earned should not be taxed because the government did NOTHING to facilitate the transfer of wealth.
  24. Inheritance tax is a very good example of a tax that is levied solely upon the most arbitrary and dangerously malleable justification of all: "Because we need it".
